GD have every right to deny being on a Twilight soundtrack they had to sign off for it and Angry Birds and etc so obviously they have no problems with the promo

As far as walmart thing they had an edited version of AI in 2004 GD has only balked at the 21st album...

It doesn't matter whether they wanted to do these promotions or not. They had to either way when they decided to release a trilogy. If they were independent they wouldn't be tied down to do these unnecessary promotions. They'd have more freedom. It is clear major labels are desperate to make more money nowadays. Independent labels are trending way up right now, majors are on the way down. Majors are getting by with short term pop acts that sell individual songs. Indies have bands that are around longer and sell full albums, instead of just singles. Rock bands are better off on indies right now, unless you are someone like Mumford and Sons or Black Keys with a "newer" sound, it is hard to sell at all. The mainstream audience is tired of gd. And most of that audience illegally downloads music. Gaining an indie audience guarantees you sell more actual albums in the store and online. They might be better off going Epitaph and making analog type albums like Dookie was. Tho not sure how big an indie audience they could attract. I'm sure a lot of labels would take a shot at them tho.

I think that they are well on Warner, think about it, Sony: Nahh. Universal: Prrrrrr..

Why would they want to leave Warners? They seem to have it pretty made over there.

Warner ran 'em off the rails this time. They've done a few things right, but a lot more wrong (including burning Billie out with a promo schedule that was way more than they could comfortably handle).

Hmm yeah I guess you're right there, though the band do tend to sing Warner's praises a lot themselves.

how can you possibly say that Billies condition right now is the labels fault...

Wait, what's this talk about Green Day better off as an indie band ? O_O

Because, all that time to promote almost literally didn't have breaks in between. Magazine interviews, TV spots, TV interviews, etc etc. Non-stop yknow ? Not enough rest, travelling place to place FREQUENTLY. Wouldn't you feel the overload and breakdown in some way ? Not that it was the label's fault, it's mostly likely could've been. Warner hasn't really done such thing before, so they probably pushed the band, esp. Billie a bit to far. IMO.

Yeah i understand, and i think you're right. All this promotion didnt help Billie. BUT they've been doing this for years, over doing things is just how green day is. The label didnt do anything different or uncalled for. Three albums is obviously going to amount to a significant amount of promotion which wasnt the labels decision. It just happened to catch up to billie this time around. The label just did their job

Probably, I mean Mike did point out that Billie was "fighting his own demons, during this whole process." Yknow ? They got out of the 21stCB tour, demoed for awhile, played a few shows, took a small break, recorded, etc. etc. They did tour until the end of 2010-ish. I don't remember 2011, but forsure that was the year they were recording all of this. But yeah, Green Day was the only band I've seen that didn't take any break as long as most bands do. They just kept going like the energizer bunny. Although, I don't recall any brief hiatuses, please do fill me in if there was.

I didn't say they don't have control of what they record. And actually you get 100% of the profits when your independent, and on a major they take a huge percentage of the profits you make. They could easily make that transition because of their big name. They could easily promote this trilogy better themselves than Warner has. I mean it's like you didn't even read what I wrote. I said nothing about the actual recording process. Independent labels are huge now. They're so many misconceptions. Do the research.

Indie labels do get a perchantage what you are talking about is them owning their own label... I have 14 years of experience in music both majors indepedent and self owned labels...

Right that is what meant. But still independents get less percentages than majors. As far as having experience with either one I can see people being biased towards the one that makes them most money. Not everyone's experience is the same. I am not judging you. I am just making generalizations. It does work both ways too. So i am not biased either way. Major labels do not give complete freedom anymore to most everyone. There are obligations each artist has to their labels. And it is much worse than at indies. I will leave it at that.

Exactly i always recommand whatever feels right or whatever is more do able i'm not really bias on any way (tho I have been burned more by indie labels than majors)

2006-2007 they were pretty quiet, yeah they did the the saints are coming, working class hero, and the simpsons but there wasn't a single green day show or much news. I remember when it had that blue picture of the whole band forever.

It's basically been

Recording American Idiot, crazy two year tour/promo cycle, very short break, super stressful recording of follow up, Foxboro album/tour, developed musical/finished recording 21CB, crazy two year tour/promo cycle, Billie acting in musical, rehearsing five days a week every week on trilogy songs/having occasional secret shows, recording trilogy, whirlwind two month pre-Trilogy promo tour.

So I can see how that can take a toll on someone, even if they love it too much to take a break.

Metallica's contract with Warner has ended and they have not renewed it. This is pretty well known.

Just saw the article damn

Interesting they are going indie

While Trent Reznor going back to a major after years of being indie...

Wait... Is this just trolling or Dos really leaked?

If it's out there somewhere, it's not an actual leak. If there was a leak, we'd know about it.

So... DOS! is leaked?

No.
