Well blink just went independent I don't think it'd be impossible

Blink is not as huge as Green Day is sales wise...

Think about this when your indie thesame pressure is ALOT higher than on a major i dont think Billie could handle that much... i could be wrong but using current events kind of tells me it wouldnt be good for Billie...

What is this 'December 7th' thing?? Well, I don't use itunes, amazon or any of that so I don't know, maybe it is an error like you guys said.

Anyway, that's a day before my birthday  AND 2 days before someone really special's birthday... :whistle

Mine still says Jan 15.

My iTunes is listing the original announced dates. I think if they were moved up we would have gotten something official from Green Day or Warner, since they wouldn't want a change of date to go unnoticed.

Metallica and Blink are now independent. Its not that they're releasing through an independent label like Epitaph, its that they're releasing the albums themselves; through their own label.

On the subject of Green Day going independent- they certainly could manage it, no problem. I just don't think they want to, or really have many reasons to. Maybe that will change after this, idk.

It wouldn't be an indie label. It would just be releasing their own albums.

Metallica is on Warner... well there plaque are on the current artist wall when i was in the office last week...

Green Day would only leave Warner if their contract ended. Not sure when it is up. And I'm pretty sure Epitaph or Merge could take on someone like Green Day. They both have artists that sell better than 21st CB did. Arcade Fire on Merge is one that comes to mind. Though if they left, not sure what that would do to artists signed to Adeline. I don't know if they could leave Warner and sell on Adeline because Warner owns Adeline. But if Blink is on a smaller label owned by the major, I guess it is possible to be independent but still be tied to the major.

blink aren't on an independent label under a major, they aren't on any type of label at the moment. I'm not sure what Adeline's relationship with Warner is, but I'm sure they could still work together if GD leaves Warner. I don't think they'd just sign to Adeline, though.

Why would they want to leave Warners? They seem to have it pretty made over there.

Why don't you think they'd just sign to Adeline? I mean that basically means they would be producing it themselves, which a lot of big artists do. Instead do you think they would sign to Epitaph if they were to leave? I know Bad Religion, who own Epitaph, like and have a relationship with Green Day.

Because they have to do stupid promo things like twilight or angry birds...

Metallica's contract with Warner has ended and they have not renewed it. This is pretty well known.

They're trying to expand the band's reach. There's nothing wrong with that. You may not like those promotional moves, but they're not trying to attract you. You are already a fan. Constantly aiming at the same people is going to get them no where. I applaud the label for trying different mediums to get the music out there.

They don't have to do any of those things, they have more of a say in them than people here give credit for. They're not hidden away in a room and made to sign something they haven't read. The way I see it, they do what they need to promo wise because it gets them stuff in return - like cheaper concert tickets.

I agree. But twilight is still stupid. That C.S.I episode was a great thing, because it's something new and special, the same with the Simpsons Movie in 2007. There are great promo things and stupid ones. Being independent means that they could chose what they want do to, and this is what I try to say. It's the same as not selling clean versions of their albums (at Wal Mart and everwhere else).

Exactly my thought. I feel like the only way for Green Day to go now is independent. Warner proved with this trilogy they're not capable of promoting a punk rock band successfully, and Green Day might as well go down in popularity and fame but I seriously wouldn't care as long as they provide us with good quality music and know what they're doing.

Firstly Independent listeners has lost taste of their music. This triology thing's strickly mainstream. If they would've been in some independent record until now they would've just release a normal record year after year till they wear out.

GD have every right to deny being on a Twilight soundtrack they had to sign off for it and Angry Birds and etc so obviously they have no problems with the promo

As far as walmart thing they had an edited version of AI in 2004 GD has only balked at the 21st album...

I get that and I understand where you are coming from but Warner is just trying to prevent alienating the band from a bigger audience, and I don't consider that to be a bad thing. The label is giving them plenty of artistic freedom and just trying to get their stuff out to as many people as possible. For example, no one has to buy a clean version, but if someone prefers to, it's not a big deal if it's readily available for them as opposed to just not listening to the music at all.
