alecandstuff Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 If American Idiot was a potato, it would be a damn good potato
deathtofalsesushi Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 It's a fine album. There's a lot of stuff that came along with the album that I don't enjoy as much, but none of it has to do with the music or lyrical content
RoosterTeeth Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Great album. The way many of the songs lead into each other makes the album's structure tight and cohesive, not to mention the nine-minute bookends standing near the start and finish. Also, Whatsername is one hell of a closer.
Makingyourmascarableed Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 American Idiot is one of my personal favorite Green Day albums. It really helped me out a few years ago and I love the concept and story that's behind this album and I could listen to it over and over again.
Of Rage and Love Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I never realized how great Whatsername is as the last song until the musical. John Gallagher Jr put so much emotion into that song and I like the idea of it taking place one year after Homecoming. Anyway I always thought that 21CB was better themed (the way the songs flow into each other, the recurring static sounds and the reprisal of Song of the Century is just really well used) but after seeing the musical, my mind was just blow with awesomeness. Its a masterpiece.
Eponine Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I've always struggled with a few of the songs, but overall I think it strikes a good balance between specific criticism and universal themes. Keeps it relevent long after the Bush era.
insomniax Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I love american idiot and I've been slightly obsessed with it's storyline and characthers for the past 6-7 years. In my opinon, it's a masterpiece.
BradGreenDay Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I need to see the musical sometime... I have heard that its amazing but they have never been to AUS/NZ before... They need to come!!!!!
Jessicabasketcase Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 All I have are two words.. Pure brilliancy.
Dori_Epiphone Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I hate AM. It's useless, and the storyline sucks more than the story of Forrest Gump. What a useless piece of shit.
EmmaCharlatan&Saints Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 American Idiot is one of my personal favorite Green Day albums. It really helped me out a few years ago and I love the concept and story that's behind this album and I could listen to it over and over again. Okay totally off topic but I love your profile pic. Is it Billie reciting Hamlet
Backyard Skulls Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I like it because its the album that got me into green day in the first place. I just fell in love with the sound and the lyrics, I remember me and my cousin sitting in our uncles room and listening to it with the lyric book in our hands and thinking wow! It was pretty edgy stuff when you're only 10 I've got so many memories associated with the songs, especially Homecoming and We are The Waiting, when WATW was played live it just hit me that I was actually seeing Green Day in the flesh. The story is okay but I've not seen the musical yet so I can't really say if the musical makes it better or not
Jimmy the Kid Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Very good album, defined a generation. But still not a masterpiece! Well, in Green Day terms it is, but in musical terms... It's only one of the best albums of that decade.
St.Jimmy'sFriend Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 It's the album that got me into Green Day in the first place.. Up there with my favorite GD albums! At first I wasn't too sure about certain songs but now I love them all!!
.Holly Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 One of the best albums ever in my opinion. A true, true masterpiece. By far my favourite Green Day album, and indeed, favourite album ever.
Makingyourmascarableed Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Okay totally off topic but I love your profile pic. Is it Billie reciting Hamlet I give you points for knowing that I'm not really sure where it's from actually. It's possibly from a Foxboro Hot Tubs show because from what I've seen, he sort of wore that kind of outfit when playing in FBHT.

Epic pic cause it seriously does remind me of Hamlet which is weird cause I dont associate Green Day with Shakespeare. The Green day Version = To be or not to be that is the fucking question!? : I just basically raped Shakespeare
Clockwise Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 The album that got me into music in general. I would be a completely different person without it. And for those reasons, it's my personal favorite album of all time.
Thisnamehasnoreason Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 i Think the musical is alot better then the acctual album if that makes sence
crazychic Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 it got me into Green Day.... well reintroduced me into them and the whole concept of the album is just brilliant and what makes me think of those years 04-08
Jet Taman Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I really liked American Idiot, especially when my best friend was in Iraq at the peak of the war in 2004. Every song reminded me of him and he told me a story where a rocket grenade exploded over his head and he actually said he had to "check his vital signs just to make sure he was still alive". That's almost the exact quote from Blvd of Broken Dreams. So many songs on there reminded me of him, all the way to when he came home and thinking of the song "Homecoming". Then when I saw the musical I fell in love with the album even more. It kind of really put together the storyline nicely--a different way than I personally had interpreted it, but I still loved it. I think it's one of the greatest albums of all time and the perfect album for its time. i think 21stCB was a weak follow up.
