cj_unoxx Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 10/39 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours: Going to Pasalaqua, Paper Lanturns, I Was There Kerplunk!: 2,000 Light Years Away, Welcome to Paradise(so Dookie can have another single) and One of My Lies. Dookie: the same except I'd add she in there as a main single. Insomniac: Walking Condradiction, Stuck With Me, Geek Stink Breath, Stuart and The Ave. Nimrod: Hitchin' a Ride, Prosthetic Head, Scattered, Uptight. I really think Stay the Night should've been the first single because even though I love Oh Love so much I just don't think it was first single material ya know?
DannyDirnt Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 Also I think Restless Heart Syndrome would be a good single if it wasn't so overproduced. I mean, it's a sweet and cool song. I just don't wanna hear it that much because I dicovered it the day before I became very ill and now I asociate it with fever and sore throat. Other than that, I objectively think it's a good song and could have been a single.
greeneyedgirl Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Songs that weren't singles but I wish they would have been: 10/39 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours: Going to Pasalacqua, Paper Lanterns Kerplunk!: Christie Road, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?, 2,000 light years away, 80 Dookie: Burnout Insomniac: Westbound Sign Nimrod: King For a Day, Haushinka Warning: Deadbeat Holiday American Idiot: Letterbomb, Extraordinary Girl 21st Century Breakdown: East Jesus Nowhere, Viva La Gloria, Last Night on Earth, The Static Age Uno: Fell For You, Rusty James
Gwen Stacy Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 My list is in order that I would have released them 1039: Going to Pasalacqua, Paper Lanterns, 409 in your Coffeemaker Kerplunk: 2000 Light Years Away, Christie Road, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? Dookie, As they were, but switch She and When I Come Around Insomniac: 86, Armatage Shanks, Geek Stink Breath, Stuart and the Ave. Nimrod: Hitchin' A Ride, Good Riddance, Scattered, Nice Guys Finish Last Warning: Warning, Minority, Macy's Day Parade, Castaway American Idiot: American Idiot, Give Me Novacaine, Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy, Boulevard of Broken Dreams 21st Century Breakdown: East Jesus Nowhere, 21st Century Breakdown, Murder City, 21 Guns Uno!: Stay the Night, Kill the DJ, Oh Love, Nuclear Family

greeneyedgirl Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 East Jesus Nowhere was a single I did not know that! I should have known that, it's my favorite song from 21st Century Breakdown
Jarem Underway Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 For 39/Smooth: "Going to Pasalacqua" and "The Judge's daughter". For Kerplunk: "Welcome to Paradise" "Christie Road" and "One of my lies". For Dookie: All the singles they picked are perfect but I would've loved a normal single for "She" with video and all that stuff. For Insomniac: "Geek stink breath" "Stuck with me" "Brain Stew/Jaded" and "86" instead of "Walking Contradiction" or probably all five... For nimrod.: Also all singles picked for this one are fine but I wished "Worry Rock" was the last single. For Warning:: All singles picked for this one are fine but I wished "Church on Sunday" was another single. For American Idiot: Same as nimrod. and Warning:, I'm fine with the songs picked but I wished they could've made just ONE video and single with "Holiday" and "Boulevard of broken dreams" together that way we got four singles, and as for the fifth I would have chosen "Letterbomb"... perfection. For 21st Century Breakdown: I didn't really liked the order in wich they released them, first I would've chosen "Know your enemy" and "21st Century Breakdown", then "East Jesus Nowhere" with an epic as fuck video, not some live footage with the original song mixed in it. Later I would've released "American Eulogy" also with a nice vid to see Mike singing, and for the finalle, "21 Guns" just as it is. For ¡UNO!: Again, I would've released them in a different order: First! "Let yourself go", with a similar preview like they did with "Oh love" and after that, a Live Video of OL similar to LYG from the show in Austin, and then a few weeks later, an awesome video for LYG, now in September we get the single and video for "Kill the DJ", just with more story in it, so in the coming days we get from Itunes the studio version of OL, but just that! all right now we get the exact same video for "Nuclear Family", that was good material. For the last single, "Stay the night" with a video not like NF but how about some footage from the band recording the song in the studio? As for ¡DOS! now it's a little spoiled for me 'cause I have listened to "It's fuck time" the previews for "Lazy Bones", "Lady Cobra", "Nightlife", live versions of "Stop when the red lights flash" and "Wild One"... ohh and now "Stray Heart" <--- this my choice for the first single, and maybe "Lady Cobra" for the next... that's it, I don't know what to pick anymore 'cause I need to listen to the entire album, have a nice green day!
burnout409 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I don't think their is anything wrong with any singles Green Day have released apart from some of the "21st Century Breakdown" ones and "UNO" I'd have had: 21st Century Breakdown: 21st Century Breakdown, Static Age, 21 Guns (Personally don't like it much but its all about picking a potential popular song with wide appeal for singles) and finally East Jesus Nowhere Or Last Of The American Girls/Murder City. UNO: Nuclear Family, Let Yourself Go, Kill The DJ, Stay The Night
PanicAttack! Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I have a question, what makes you all smarter than the band and all the proffesionals on the label with many years of experience in the business? I think all the singles were spot on, and I can see reason for them all, even the ones that failed. I see some of you obviously just naming your personal favorites, but would that've really worked as singles? Only Letterbomb and iViva la Gloria! strikes me as wasted potential, but when I think about it, I'm actually glad it remained some killer album tracks, becuase I somehow tend to skip the singles off each album more often than the rest. I was crazy about Oh Love when we got the live recordings, but now I skip it more than anything on iUno!.

I was crazy about Oh Love when we got the live recordings, but now I skip it more than anything on iUno!. I have a question. How would Letterbomb work as a single? It's an integral part of the American Idiot storyline. The first line is "where have all the bastards gone?". You need to have listened to the album up to that point to understand it. There's a story building up to the message of that song, that he's completely lost his identity. It is my favourite Green Day song ever but there is nothing about it that suggests it would ever work as a single, even if they released it right after Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.

I see this as a fun thread, not a thread criticizing the singles.
