I agree guys, and I apologize for getting so off topic. It's just frustrating, and it's confusing trying to make sense of it all. But the main thing is that Billie gets whatever help he needs asap. That's the main concern. I wish him and the rest of the Green Day family the best, and I'm sorry for stirring up so much dirt.

YES! he admitted it in his drunken interview before hand... god, read the thread before you post please

yeah i know. it's just crazy how many times you have to repeat yourself because people wont read ..or listen in this case.

oh oops sorry... I'm just getting so dizzy from the people going in circles in this thread

I have to say, and DJ Rosstar also noted this, but the sound was bad for the entire show, Lauren. Pink didn't sound so hot either. His performance may not have been the best, but the sound was poor for the broadcast.

Yeah, that could definitely factor in. Especially with singing. If you can't hear yourself, it's hard to sing on key.

but his guitar playing, especially in Basket Case, was getting off rhythm.

BJA admittedthey only had 30 minutes to play. Don't know if this was posted yet.

*Listen to the FULL interview, not the video.

My favorite part of that whole interview is when she said BJ's eyes were blue and he was like "they are green, actually" I just laughed.

Anyway, you could tell he was getting angry about only having 30 minutes.

My question is why didnt mike or tre or someone stop him before they even went on stage? he was obviously way too trashed..if they felt like he had a problem for a while before hand why didnt they just pack up and leave....this whole thing really makes me upset..well if he needs help im glad hes getting it..love you billie!

My thoughts go out to him.

Damn, it really sucks to hear this news, but then again, doesn't it just further prove that he's only human? There's a chance that the whole problem was just building up, he just wasn't sharing it, but who would want to share their problems like that? I sincerely hope he gets better and that he'll be able to cope with whatever it is.

And it's such a shame that many people are able to feed off of another's negative happenings. I guess he's lucky that Green Day has a large and dedicated fanbase to drown out all the negativity coming from this.

Oh for gods sake. People its not because of the ONE performance that would be stupid if that was the case everyone who ever got drunk once would be in freaking rehab. The Iheart radio moment was clearly a culmination of things and that is what we saw. Are people really that ignorant or stupid to believe hes been sent to rehab/ told to get treatment for being drunk at one show. Dont be so fucking ridiculous. And for those still calling it a PR stunt still get over yourselves and stop making excuses people have problems no matter who they are including Billie and he obviously needs to deal with that right now. PR STUNT = TOTAL UTTER BULLSHIT! God the internet seriously makes me weep for humanity sometimes    :angry

Obviously it's not just because of the one moment. All I'm saying is that, and you quoted me on it, IF he has a problem then I hope he is okay and he recovers, everything of the sort. The TIMING makes me believe that it is a PR stunt, at least partially. My point is that they do have a marketing team, which includes Public Relations.

Imagine with me, just for a second. Rewind to just after the festival. What's next? Green Day is all over the news because they didn't know what to make of it. Front page of Yahoo!, etc. The band can't just stay quiet, they need to make some kind of statement about that. They have [had, at this point, but we're still rewinding] appearances throughout the week, so it was bound to come up. What does he say to that? The media will eat him alive with it. Then the media will continue to follow him and add onto all of this with something like, "Billie Joe: Spiraling Out of Control After I Heart Radio." That's an over exaggeration, but TMZ would likely get some candid picture of him on an off day and speculate drug use. They HAVE to make some kind of apology after that and show that it won't happen again. They need to show this because if they don't, many media outlets will be extremely hesitant to even allow them to play live because they're unsure about any reactions that may pop up. So, in order to show that progress is being made, they say something insanely vague like, "seeking treatment for substance abuse." It's not "rehab," it's not, "detox," it's, "treatment." That word can mean a variety of things; from as simple as simply quitting drinking and recovering for a few days, to seeing a counselor, or anything of the sort. Again, if he does have a serious problem, I wish him nothing but the absolute best. And I don't doubt that he has a problem.

I'm just saying that it is not an illogical jump to conclude that it has SOMETHING to do with their PR. Their image could have been severely corrupted at this point, and the sales of their albums could possibly plummet. So I don't appreciate you calling me ignorant or stupid for thinking it could be PR when I'm an advertising major and I'm studying to learn to think in this fashion. Expect the worst, learn how the media spins things with specific terms, and ALWAYS make your brand (in this case, band) look positive to as many target markets as possible.

But just in case someone thinks that I'm being insensitive, again, I wish nothing but the best to the Armstrong family and the Green Day crew as they recover from this whole ordeal; health-wise and media-wise.

I've read the first and last three pages of this thread and refuse to read more, so!

I'm sorry if this was already said but, did anyone else see Mike look over at Billie Joe and begin smashing his bass? The clip is on Youtube, and though you can't see Mike very clearly, it looks as though he joins Billie in the guitar smashing.

He did (try to) smash his bass, but it seems more like he did it just to make sure that Billie wasn't alone in going nuts at the end.

What do you mean by withdrawals?

What i mean is that when someone uses a substance daily for a very long time (years) your body becomes physically dependant on it. Like a medication. So when you stop using it, your body can't cope with the change in chemistry. This is how things become physically addictive. You start to feel sick if you don't have them. I personally know that if i skip my psych meds for too many days, i get headaches, cranky, anxious, nauseous, etc. The same thing happens with alcohol or any other addictive drug. Detoxing from Alcohol can be physically very hard- and cause actual physical symptoms like seizures and shit. This is why people who are truly addicts and have been drinking long term need to "detox" in a hospital or inpatient facility- so that doctors and nurses are there and can give other medications that help with the withdrawal symptoms- and also therapy and shit to help with the depression and anxiety. It's all real serious shit.

Not saying this is going on with Billie in particular- but this is how it works. Addictions are a real disease, and they're fucking hard to break.

BTW- FORTY SEVEN PAGES? Wtf. I hope there's some actual real news posted somewheres soon because digging through this trash is killing me.

Absolutely. In fact, when I was watching it live, I didn't even consider that Green Day was being cut off, I just ASSumed Billie was being righteously selfish, like at Reading, when he pretended to fight to stay on stage.

This is how I felt watching it as well....figured the alcohol had a part to play in the intensity of the explosion, since he'd never gone quite that far off the deep end before--usually just is playful about doing what they want and playing overtime--but still mostly thought it was Billie being Billie.

Billie has never worried me so much...September is really not his month! :( But I'm glad that he's getting the help he needs now instead of later.

that interview. omg. i feel annoyied by that shit. billie wasted tre and mike look uncomfortable.. :( thats not funny at all.

alcohol truly changes you.

Hope they're all ok and hoping Billie Joe is getting a well deserved rest, fuck the tabloids!

Any "fan" who has turned on them or questioned them was never a fan in the first place. I am always a mad idiot, no matter what. You stand by people you care about, right...? He was messed up that night. He was pissed. I was pissed. I actually broke my toe... Ha. Anyway, he fucked up. We all fuck up. It's life. We need tk support him and just make sure that he is OK and here to make beautiful music for us. I don't see why it's a big deal. They're punk rockers... That's what they do.. Always have. Oh and FUCK the media.

I'm hurting. Imagine Billie...

I don't necessarily think we have to go back through and psychoananalyze every lyric that Billie wrote that mentions alcohol or drugs or drugs or whatever.

For some reason I felt uncomfortable watching/listening to the interview after Billie said Alcohol... I don't know why but my stomach started to feel uneazy.... /:

Same here. Way too fucking similar to the way my Dad talks up alcohol like it's God's holy piss when he's drunk.

^You mean angel's piss? :P

This. Omg. Yeah, Billie writes about this shit, but if you didn't get what he was talking about the first time, pointing it out now is not gonna make you look like some super insightful genius.

Besides which, it's still next to impossible to determine which songs, specifically, are derived from past or present experiences or those of himself or a friend (s) without him stating so.

Posting a little mood music to get thread in better spirits :D (Freddie makes everything better ;) )

Maybe they were supposed to smash the guitars and complain about the minutes. But when they told billie that he was like oh I cango way farther. And he went too far?

Yeah exactly. This is stuff people would never even be considering if they hadn't heard this, and it doesn't have to mean that it's related to anything from the past.

But I see the speculation etc is never going to stop. I guess I understand, people are worried and they just want to figure it out, but it really is disrespectful.
