It's a bit sad because when Billie smashed his guitar, Mike smashed his bass. No one really cared or noticed what he was doing but probably Mike didn't want Billie to feel so alone when he did that.

Dude.. That is so true.. Mike it's like the best fucking friend ever.

RESPECT.

Not actually leave the band as in ...as if he were a part of it...but he is their tour manager. A few pages back someone said he had left them. Is this confirmed?!

Oh okay. And no, not to my knowledge.

Is this true though? Where did you read that? Makes me sad. Not good. I don't like it. Can't really 'splain.

Yep, it was mentioned earlier, and was corroborated by Andres saying he left the band at the end of August. Therefore it is gospel.

20$ says he shaves his head,

I don't even want to think about the panic that will ensue if this happens. What will we discuss on GDC if it's not Billie's hair colour.

Well, this does explain quite a bit, doesn't it. I'll admit, I did like the outburst because it was so rock. And most of rock's greatest outburst moments are drug and/or alcohol-fueled. Not condoning -- just stating a fact.

The fact that the press release indicates "substance" abuse could mean one substance, could mean alcohol or could mean multiple substances. The issue usually isn't the substance part -- it's the abuse part. As for Warner and Clear Channel and legal ramifications, they could put pressure on the band and sue for breach of contract, and make things really awkward, but if the band could pay the fines or go to court or whatever rather than apologize. No one can be forced into rehab unless they are an immediate physical threat to themselves or to someone else (that's the law). This was clearly not the case. Billie Joe is choosing to go. There's been problems with substance abuse in these boys' lives in the past (listen to Insomniac if you're not convinced). If you've dealt with substance abuse previously, there's always a good chance you'll relapse. And that's what this is -- a relapse.

The very, very good thing is that they are doing something early, I think. They were clearly functional (note-wise maybe not so much), but we're not talking Lindsay Lohan here. It's smart that they reassessed and are taking time pre tour to do a tune up. Check in with the families. Get rooted again before they go all over the place.

I just hope Adie can go with him on this leg of the tour. I think he'll need her.

Billie Joe, we're behind you 100%. Get better. We'll be waiting for you behind the barrier. Just like always.

First...my apologies if this is redundant...but I'm not reading through 18 pages :)

I watched the video...I saw nothing that bad. Although they aren't considered a punk band...I think it was a punk attitude that he had. But...I could be wrong...my opinion. I just don't see any out of the norm behavior. Hell...what about Mike...didn't he smash his bass too? (at least that's what I thought I saw).

You didn't notice his off singing? His aggressive behavior? (Even before the whole "one fucking minute" thing) I mean, even for Billie he was a little over the top.

And Mike smashed his bass because he's a fucking awesome friend. He only did it to support Billie.

Seconded.

Seconded. Even though I think BJ was having an epic diva moment. I think the people who had the worst out of the other night were Mike, Tre & Jason. More so Jason and Tre who were just kinda like "WTF is going here?"

Still very proud of him for standing his ground. They'll be back but at least it will be on their terms.

There's people saying they're disappointed in him for taking drugs (too thick to realize that substance can mean alcohol) and/or performing shows while under the influence. Not even commenting on the fact he's now getting help, just making snarky comments that he's 40 and should be able to control himself and grow up and that because he took drugs they have no sympathy for him. Oh and assuming that this was the real reason for that festival appearance in Italy being cancelled and that the stomach pains explanation was a lie. That's why it annoyed me so much lol.

To be fair, Alcohol is a drug.

If it's as big of a problem as it seems, it's great he's getting help. As I watched the iHeartRadio performance, the entire time I kept thinking, "He's fucking wasted." Everything from the vocal quality to the repeated usage of "I'll tell you that right fucking now" that reminds me of my drunken uncle, ha ha.

I watched the iheart radio performance last night and didn't know how to react... I thought bits of it were funny but then the rest just awful. Now I just feel really sad. I hope Billie Joe realises and appreciates the love he has from his family and the band and the support we all have for him right now.

Take the help that you need Billie and get better quick!!

We'd have to focus on the less exciting and era defining things like hat and pants colours.

Thanks for replying. This sucks. I saw him at the MG show at the end of August, weird to think he left not that long after that.

As long as we don't have to talk about the music. Shit, I hope it doesn't get to that point.

Anyone seen this tweet from Greendaynews - https://twitter.com/GreenDayNews (top tweet)

Can you tell me what this says? I'm at work and they block twitter. (Its retarded as they allow Facebook access.)

Mike definitely hates BJ but nobody can resist the joy of smashing a guitar. Tre was just like "fuck you guys."

WE NEED A NEW DRUMMER.

This news makes me really sad. I actually got choked up when I read the news, and have fought back actually crying. I've always known that Billie has been a heavy drinker and did drugs a lot, but to me that always seemed like something in the past. Since I've been a fan (since 2004), it always seemed like he had it under control. He didn't appear to have a severe drinking or other drug problem. So learning now that he's getting help for substance abuse is a little bit shocking, but in a way where I thought this was something he was already past. But at the same time, he has seemed a bit off the last few months too, and the iHeartRadio thing the other day did seem to be... worse than usual.

My dad has been an alcoholic my entire life. He's quit drinking a few times in the last 20 years, but never for long. I've seen what alcoholism can do to ruin not only my dad's life, but also the horrible effects it has on his family - my mom, sister, me, his parents and sister, etc. So Billie's substance abuse kind of hits close to home. I've experienced addiction secondhand, and it saddens me to know that he's been struggling with an addiction too.

I don't know how long Billie's had a problem with whatever substance it is - alcohol, some other drug - or if this is a sort of relapse for something he had already taken control of. I know that people can quit, but the addiction is always there. The disease never goes away.

I hope that Billie's treatment is successful and that he gets well soon. And I hope that he stays well for the rest of his life once he is better.

I wish the best for him, but also for Adrienne, Joey, Jakob, Mike, Tré, and everyone else in his life.

We're all supporting him and will love and respect him no matter what. <3

No, until I told them they didn't know substance abuse could mean alcohol. They're disappointed by the "news" that he's taking drugs (as in drugs other than alcohol) having assumed for some reason that he hasn't for years. That's all they've taken from the announcement, not "Billie's realized he has a substance abuse problem and is getting help", just "Billie's taken drugs". I'll stop bothering talking about them here though, it's just random idiots.
