He seems so happy in his instagram. All family pics, surfing, resting in the park ... Doesnt seem like he has a problem. Maybe label is forcing him since clear channel hate them now and own like every station. He was a drug user for a long time and never had an issues before.

Billie is also older now. I for one am happy that he is taking the appropriate steps to get his life in line again.

I don't think the media is going to blow this up. It will linger temporarily. I know GD are popular...but in relation to other bigger stars such as Lady Gaga, they are small. People will probably roll their eyes and get on with reading another tabloid. It's not something surprising in this genre of music.

Normally I'd agree, but the thing that sucks is last a lot of people are still reporting about the meltdown at the festival. That coupled with this new news is gonna be a media gold mine for gossip sites.

I hope Billie realizes how much he is hurting all of us right now and drops the alcohol for good. I can't bear this knot in my stomach.

Seriously, why are you guys worrying about the media? What are you worried about? The fact is even if Green Day were all three of them straightedge and never sipped a beer in their life, everyone's perception is that bands do drugs.

What are you worried that headline is going to say, "Billie Joe Armstrong has similar problems to every frontman in music history"?

I'm not downplaying his problem. I sincerely hope he gets clean. But if you think a band's reputation is destroyed by them having substance abuse problems, you must not be familiar with this genre called "rock n' roll."

I don't think the problem is the media declaring that he has a drug problem, it's just the accompanying judgement that comes with it, which for me it's what bugs me about the media shit-fest-storm that will (maybe) go down.

It's true.

uhhhh

oh, wow. what is he on?

The iHeartRadio performance didn't seem that weird. It seemed like Green Day in Vegas. This seems like damage control more than anything.

But regardless, I wish Billie Joe the best of luck. This is weird.

either he just takes a short break or this is rly serious and takes atleast months...at this points its hard to predict what will happen next in the future of billie/GD :/

i will have a different feeling while listening to GDs music by now until this is getting cleared up

thats maybe why tré acted a bit irritated at the iHeart show...i saw it in tré's eyes that this wasnt fun anymore..

*is this the first time billie is getting treatment for this? or did he do this before?

i had the same feeling (with trè) while watching the show.

i don't know for shure . I only know that before the "album" shenanigans came out he got caught drunk driving and got punished for it (this is also the reason why the song D.U.I isn't on the cd anymore only on the japanese one because it already was printed)

Yeah I'm sure that DUI in 2003 was just a one time accident.

Sucks but going to treatment is ALWAYS better than doing nothing. He'll be fine.

I hope all the people who jumped to conclusions based on assumptions and conjecture will think twice next time, maybe... Until you know the facts of a story, you can't say who's right or wrong> According to their own facebook page, they're saying their set was NOT cut short, so all the blaming and flipping out and "hell yeah, I'd do the same thing" isn't really justified now. If anything it makes it worse that he lost his shit so severely and they weren't actually cut short. Whatever he was on is bad, but I personally think it was drugs, not alcohol...

Hopefully everything works out and he can get on with the tour when it starts... They do amazing shows and I'm looking forward to it now more than ever.

I'm going to summarize all my posts in this thread in 3 easy points, and I'll be done with it, they are as follows:

1. I still think the iHeart rant was funny regardless of what fueled it, that does not mean I think BJ's problem is funny, but I appreciate the rant itself.

2. "Rock star has substance problem" never has been, never will be a scandal (most people would say it's not even news) so stop worrying about it.

3. I wish Billie Joe Armstrong the best of luck in dealing with his addiction and am glad he has decided to.

Amen to that

This is not about us. It's about him and his family.

Ok. I'm really shocked, so I'm going to post what I understaood and someone please tell me if I'm right or wrong: Billie had drugs (or only alcohol?) and now he's going to rehabilitation?

There was no damage to control. Most people seemed to like it.

I've seen shows where he's obviously been drinking and it was sloppy but he could still perform.

That last performance was different.....something was very wrong. I didn't want to say anything but in my posts in the iheartradio thread I was debating on stating if anyone else noticed it. It wasn't "punk rock" nor was it "cool"....something was really fucking wrong and it scared me :/

I hope he gets better because that man is my hero and I hate to see him suffring :(

connect the dots.... it was something more than booze, i even saw it. And i am putting a connection to it

It's easy to paint a picture that everything is okay. The label wouldn't force him to go to rehab when he has their product to promote, seeing as he now can't. Plus, if they were to make him go to rehab, he wouldn't gain anything out of it and that would just make for bad PR in the end. Billie Joe isn't young anymore and he obviously has some demons he's struggling with now. We just gotta face that and support him.

Why is everyone being all "It's JUST alcohol"?! How is alcohol better than any drugs? It's as damaging as any, and it's also as serious.

I agree and I'm just gonna say this outloud. You guys are fucking idiots if you say "it's just alcohol". Alcohol is fucking dangerous! Alot of people party hard all the time and people don't allways see that as a big issue, but if someone drinks that much he ends up in rehab it's no longer just alcohol. There's some kind of reason why he's drinking so much. Alcohol isn't and will never be just alcohol. Idiots.

The comments on the Yahoo website are so full of shit.

He seemed normal to be at shepherds bush. Not drunk or anything; but the band did have a fight before hand.

And might as well say it; makes me double think Schneider leaving.

what? since when is he leaving? I missed something.

Posted

You never know whats going on behind the scenes. I just wish him the best, and hope he gets himself all fixed up.

He's mailing me a cup of his piss. I'll get the toxicology report posted as soon as I finish it.

I hope Billie focuses on HIS life and makes sure he gets healthy before even thinking about any of us.

Could someone summarize what happened please? On german, if possible :)

As someone who lives substance-free, it's encouraging to see Billie taking a step toward his health. But I'm a bit shocked right now. My best wishes to the Armstrongs.

Please get better, Billie.

Does anyone else think he was just drunk at iHeart, and he's not actually going to rehab, but they're saying it to explain why he acted out?
