Mary Daze Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I like Best Coast, but I don't know how to feel about them opening for Green Day. When I go to a Green Day concert, I wanna be hyped up and jumping around and stuff and rocking out, Best Coast's music is much more like "relax and smoke a bowl" type music. It'll be interesting to see I guess. So this! I checked them out after I read through 80's twitter account and wondered who ''the bestyys'' were.. when I first heard them I was like ''oh damn, I wish we had some bands like them in our time.. I'm sure this band was existing long before my birth.. '' but then I realized that they ARE existing in our time! I really love that kind of mood you get when you're listening to some of their songs.. I think they are a great band and everything, but I'm not sure how they'd fit as a support act for Green Day.. I mean, every GD fan at a GD concert shortly (well, a few hours) before GD are playing wants to have three things: water, maybe a toilet and getting pumped up for seeing GD. Idk if that relaxing sort of music Best Coasts plays is the right thing to give to a pumped crowd.. It was kind of the same with Rock am See.. Everyone loved Kraftklub and Flogging Molly (well, they sure were pretty damn good) because the crowd was freaking out and never stopped moshing, but sort of nobody was singing along to Social Distortion's songs or danced or anything like that because they all wanted to freak out for GD and were kind of ''get off the stage, we want Green Day!!'' which was pretty annoying.. Even though I'd really like to see that crazy mixture and this news made me think about convincing my mom to fly over and going to one of these concerts
kelly42fox Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I hope this is true. I love Best Coast, and it would be a great way to chill and conserve energy for the tidal wave that follows!
July21 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 well, i read this post and the first thing i did afterwards was opening spotify and listening to a song by them and.. this was definitely not what i was expecting haha. it's different.. but why not?! will be interesting to see the reactions of the audience. or rather to read them as i won't see them here in germany

I just looked them up on playlist.com and I can see the appeal it just doesn't appeal to me XD. But I'm all for Green Day putting up slightly lesser-known acts.

karma1215 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Best Coast is so good live but I prefer Wavves...still their music is noteworthy
AndrewW91 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Just gave them a listen. I really enjoyed them. I may buy an album or two!
blitzkriegdeb Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Totally would've preferred Wavves over Best Coast, but I can't imagine how much weed would be smoked on the busses.
uhleckseee Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I just checked this band out right now just because of this post. Pleasantly surprised.
Cori Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Please let them open for them at the Moline show, too! Then I'd get to see two of my favorite bands at once!!!
Sleeper Agent. Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Welp, since I and a lot of you guys don't know who they are, I'm going to save some time for you lot and post this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoPoRuNTo9U
Lauren Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I think I saw one video of theirs, and that was only just the other day. I don't even remember if I liked it or not. Isn't Green Day popular enough to do their own tour now? I feel like it's not fair to the people who want to see the supporting act but don't necessarily care about seeing Green Day.
warding_off_regrets Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I think I saw one video of theirs, and that was only just the other day. I don't even remember if I liked it or not. Isn't Green Day popular enough to do their own tour now? Given that shows basically sell out before the opening band is even announced, I'd wager Green Day's popularity isn't the issue. This just sucks for Best Coast fans who didn't find out their band is playing until after the Green Day fans bought up all the tickets But I know what you mean, a lot of big acts don't have an opener...but I think having another name on the bill is really a part of Green Day's roots, and so maybe that's just a tradition they like to carry on with?
Guest MadeInRatCity Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Welp, since I and a lot of you guys don't know who they are, I'm going to save some time for you lot and post this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoPoRuNTo9U Best coast are great. Check their song boyfriend, crazy for you. They write great catchy pop rock song. 'Crazy for you' is indeed a great album. It sounds awesome.
deadair Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 It's not a rumor. I work for a radio station, we're working with the concert promoter in the area, and he confirmed Best Coast are, at least, opening for Green Day at the Madison show in February. Cool, thanks for the info! I checked the Milwaukee County library system and they have two Best Coast CDs, so I'll be able to check them out without having to buying any of their music right away. How long do opening bands typically get to play at GD shows? I not sure as I missed The Bravery being stuck in traffic the first time I saw Green Day in 2009. I would guess somewhere between 25-40 minutes?

DoodleBob Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Just listened to a few of their songs. They are...interesting. Green Day and Best Coast sure are a weird combination.
Femme Gauche Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 a lot of big acts don't have an opener I'm stupid cause I never even realized this... XD. Based on what I've heard I'm sort of hoping they're not there for the shows I'm attending, but ... would be cool if I was introduced to a new band and actually enjoyed it. (I appreciated both The Bravery and AFI... but of course they were nothing next to Green Day XD)
whitechristmas Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Just gave them a listen. They're really good! Can't wait to see them open up for Green Day!
drugstore hooligan Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Checked out some best coast. I like !
in_your_face Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 haven't heard of Best Coast. sounds like a 'Jesus-band' to me, y'know writing songs on Jesus lol just kidding!
stylesmanifest Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Ugh i love them!!!! You guys have to lisyen to 'the end' and 'honey'
fiercecircus Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 they're very cute and jangly. Not sure how the crowds will react to it but it's not bad. As much as i loved AFI as openers (and am wishing REALLY FUCKING HARD that Alk3 opens for them someday) i don't know if i can handle a two band all night freakout. I would need a case of redbull and an oxygen mask to get thru an Alk3/GD show.
