¡UNO! Album

My favorite string of words on the entire album is "whiskey sour adventure hour," purely because I've had one or two of those and can completely relate. Whiskey (or, in my case, bourbon) with lemon juice and simple syrup makes for some wild times.

I feel like I'm telling a little kid Santa isn't real but I'm pretty sure it's "This whiskey's sour, amateur hour."

Sweet 16 reminds me on my first Love C:

"I've got an impulse so repulsive that it burns, i wanna break your heart until it makes your stomach churn." stay the night. That's probably my favorite lyric on the album. it's so personal and genuine feeling!

I wouldn't call it "lyric of the album" but my favorite lyric from Stay The Night is "so won't you stay and count the circles 'round my eyes/and we can watch the stars until the sun begins to rise." I'd love to know if Billie wrote that about Adie -- usually you get super-potent, gushy-romantic, spine-tingling lyrics like that only in the songs he writes about her.

I'm most looking forward to finding out what the hell he sings in the Rusty James chorus! :P

Wait, even english speaking people have trouble to understand what the hell Billie Joe's singing? Awesome.

You're both wrong....and both right...It's "This whiskey sour, amateur hour"

That's easy!

When there's no one left around

And you're the last gang in town

And your heart can't even break

When it doesn't even pound

(repeat)

His diction is so weird sometimes! He can sing something which is meant to be beat without making the b sound at all. Don't know if it is laziness or what.

Billie is definitely not the best at enunciating....but I've noticed that he's improved in that area a LOT over the years, particularly since the musical. I know he's still not perfect, but the vocals on Uno are by far the most clearly pronounced of any album they've ever done. On "Stay the Night", in particular, you can tell he actually made an effort to pronounce his t's and s's at the end of the lines....and in Carpe Diem, the "-ing" sound during the "Making a living/making a killing" bit is also very clear...normally, he would've swallowed the g :P

I just submitted Rusty James tabs so I'll post the link when it's up!

And then there's "Oh LiiiiIIIIIIIIIIggggggghhhhhhhh" where I think he's aiming for "Oh life". I'll forgive him for that though -- try it yourself, it's hard to enunciate that syllable correctly using the tone and cantellation he's applied to it. One other thing that's noteworthy about his vocals -- Broadway got him comfortable with the far upper reaches of his register now. Those falsettos he hit in 21stCB and never did live later on tour? Fuck that, he's nailing all of them live now.

hahahaha, yes.....that is one notable exception  Like I said, he's not perfect, but he's made very remarkable and noticeable strides. I've honestly been surprised with how easy it's been to understand him on this album. There's only a few parts that have me stumped for lyrics.

First time I heard Oh Love, I thought that "Losers and choosers" were "Losers and JESUS"..... I was like wtf

Haha but in Carpe Diem it sounds like if he said "What's worth forgiving alights".

And speaking of Carpe Diem, was I the only one shocked when I heard for the first time the studio version and heard them singing "ain't strange, ain't strange" when I was expecting "any change, any change"?

An even greater thing about opinions is that, by nature, they are subjective. Maybe your opinion is based on technical perfection, and maybe someone else's is based on the album sounding good. If you want to argue the semantics of opinions, PM me and I'll be happy to engage when I have some free time. Just because your subjective opinion is different from someone else's subjective opinion does not make either one any less valid.

I see what you mean and i understand it is very hard, if not impossible, to be entirely objective but when the balance between the two is sooo different, you tend to notice it. What im trying to say is that in the end to differing opinions are usally equally valid (although i implied something else before! ^^) because like you mentioned in your comment, their nature is inevitably subjective.

Haha, idk, I always heard it as "alright"....and, even in the bootleg of Carpe Diem, was able to pick out him saying "Ain't it strange?" But I can't speak for everyone.....maybe I've just learned to speak Billie-Joe-ese

i couldn't resist the temptation to listen to it... (it was either that or rewrite an essay for school)

i think Nuclear Family should have been the first single, it would have psyched you up better for the album.

Stay The Night is amazing! for the most part i think the album is great, if they accomplished one thing it was that these songs are so damn catchy!!

but i get the feeling that LYG will become the new KYE...

All the album sounds perfect for me but in descending order:

Rusty James

Stay the Night

Nuclear Family

Carpe Diem

Fell for You

Let Yourself Go

Loss of Control

Angel Blue

Sweet 16

Oh Love

Kill the DJ

Troublemaker

Kill the DJ: I love this track but it's not ok in the middle of Uno!...

Uno is now one of my favorite Green Day's albums along to Insomniac and Kerplunk!

THIS. SO HARD. The harmonies are just so amazing, every chorus just sounds so awesome

There are no emoticons strong enough to convey how happy i was hearing it all the way through twice in succession so i'm just gonna say that was quite awesome.

Only song i resolutely hate is Angel Blue. Makes me nauseous. But that's one song. I can deal. Kill The DJ is growing on me. Rusty James? Love it. Carpe Diem and especially Stay The Night are as amazing as i thought they would be. And there really is a "hey oh" in Stay The Night. :D

Try, we have a limit on them :P

Why the hate for Angel Blue? It's not my favorite, but it's not like I skip it :P
