Guest MadeInRatCity Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 How come Sweet 16 is listed as the next single on wikipedia? I was about to say the same thing. Anyone?
greenbear Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Just found this: Oh Love http://hangout.altsounds.com/news/153053-converse-releases-exclusive-green-day-track-converse.html They claim its a never before heard live track!! Yeah! right! I'm not sure where its from but I'm sure someone here will have heard it before! Its actually a very good version .
Stuart&Ave Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 It's been recorded at Irving Plaza (he even says New York somewhere in the song). And here's a video (youtube):
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Regarding Oh Love: Although it is definitely in my top 2 favorites on Uno, I do agree that Oh Love feels out of place for the record, even as a closer. It doesn't have a similar vibe or sound that all the other songs share. I don't think it's the tempo or the lyrics - the whole sonic quality just seems so drastically different to me. Oh Love sounds too epic for Uno.... epic as in it belongs in a stadium and to be sung by thousands of people all together or something. The other songs don't sound like epic stadium songs; they're more back-to-basics pop punk with some clean production or something. (I'm no expert, btw. That's just my impression.) I feel like Oh Love maybe would have fit better on a different album. Maybe Tré. But it still doesn't make sense to me on Uno. But I still love that song to pieces.

You're right, it is really excellent live. They played it live at the Shepherd's Bush gig in London, and it is one of those one's that's just great to have 100s of people singing along. I think lots of people here will appreciate it more once they've heard it live
DannyDirnt Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I feel like the only one who doesn't think Oh Love is a great song live either.
Milo Goes To Pasalacqua Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Rusty James cover! God, i love your voice here. I feel like the only one who doesn't think Oh Love is a great song live either. No, you are not.

Stuart&Ave Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 For me, Oh Love is a great song and it has grown on me since it was released as a single. I really love it. Also, I think Oh Love fits thematically with Uno and as a closer it is kind of an introduction to Dos (especially with the line "Tonight, my heart is on the loose"). It's true though that musically, it differs from the other songs on Uno.
Bastard of 1967 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I don't know if this is mentioned already but Uno's current score in Metacritic is 66 (out of 100): http://www.metacriti.../uno!/green-day 21stCB plots at 70 with 30 "professional" reviews logged. The split between positive, mixed, and negative is really close between the two albums, to the point of being nearly identical. http://www.metacritic.com/music/21st-century-breakdown/green-day For comparison's sake, American Idiot only ranks in at 79. http://www.metacritic.com/music/american-idiot/green-day
Heather. Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Not that I know what I'm saying worth a shit, having never heard Tre, but I do think Oh Love would fit better on that album, or not on Uno. I loved the song, still do (but haven't listened to it in a while), but I think the vocal quality is in many ways too *good* for Uno. I love the way the vocals sound all throughout Uno, but on Oh Love they have that insanely clear quality, as if you're in the room with him (you can hear him breathing), and it just doesn't sound like the tight vocals on the rest of the album.

I agree. It does sound too good, too arena-ish, too anthemic, too much like you're right there in the room with them. I love all those qualities of Oh Love. But it just seems so different from the rest of Uno, it's kind of confusing to listen the album and then suddenly Oh Love is playing. It's just kind of weird, musically. Though lyrically I can see it being a good transition into Dos. But yeah, like you were saying, with my limited knowledge of Tré, I feel like Oh Love could have fit perfectly on that last CD with the other epic songs.
Femme Gauche Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Yeah I think Oh Love is a great closer as well. Of course, ironically, Rusty James would actually work as a closer, too, but Oh Love is not only a closer but transitional. It lends itself to a feeling of anticipation, being on the verge...
The_Decline27 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 After listening to UNO on cd and mp3 all week my pink vinyl finally showed up today. Everyone do yourself a favor and listen to this album on vinyl I heard detail I did not even know was there. PS hi I'm new........
Clayish Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 After several listens, Uno is a great album. Nothing more, nothing less. Definitely a safe album, couple wack tracks (Oh Love, Kill the DJ), and the lyrics could have been better. The most important part is that you can tell the band had a blast making the record, the same vibe of Stop, Drop and Roll. 8.5/10
Radioactive1 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Gonna be honest, its probably one of my least favourite albums. Its ok, but no songs stick out to me. I didnt feel excitement when listening to it like I usually do when I get a new Green Day album.
darenmay Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Uno album is really good. it's fun and easy listening. it is not too ambitious, rather simple and safe, and clearly a part of something truly epic as a whole. and Rusty James really does remind me of Scattered.
kripack Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 And this is my Rusty James cover (It may sound like shit, but I tried to do my best )
The Grohl Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 For some reason I really like Billie's vocals on this album. I mean i've always liked his voice, but I don't why they sound somewhat better here
Marrymebilliejoe Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I don't claim to be a music album critic..but I think UNO is a FANTASTIC Green Day album! It totally reminds me of old Green Day like sound and chord progression, and even the way they constructed their lyrics..bit the lyric content is definitely new Green Day..and I think they did a perfect mash of their old and new style! I bought the album..and now it's on repeat;) I think my favorite song at the moment is probably troublemaker or nuclear family! But all of them are great! And honestly this album made me get back on the Green Day fanatic train! Ahh! Green Day..I love them
Homero Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 For some reason I really like Billie's vocals on this album. I mean i've always liked his voice, but I don't why they sound somewhat better here This is what I was thinking through this past days
