DannyDirnt Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I dislike it compared to other Green Day albums. It's because of the overproduction in Billie's voice and because I don't like so much strings in so many songs. I prefer just guitar, bass and drums, and maybe a rythmic guitar. That's my guess. I dunno, I just know that when it came out GD fans thought it was great, but after it'd been out a while they all seemed to hate it and decided that Green Day did too. But a similar thing happened with Uno when Dos came out, so maybe it's just cool to bash the previous album to express your love for the current one. I don't see ¡Uno! hate anywhere. I only see people saying ¡Dos! is better. Plus initial opinions on albums, videogames, etc. are usually affected by all the hypeness of getting a new album. I don't think you can give your true sincere opinion till some months pass.
Pieces of Truth Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I don't like it because I like the simple green day withouth big effects more. That's why I'm also kinda disappointed of Uno and Dos after I listened to them for a bit and the euphoria of having new material's gone. Fuck me, right?

I thought ¡Uno! was like a thousand times better than 21st CB. Haven't listened yet to ¡Dos! but I think I'm gonna love it to death and it will be one of my fav albums.

And some songs on Dos are... weird and feel like a filler (to say the least) - What shouldn't be considering the amount of songs that were written for these albums. [/offtopic]
San Miguel Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Listening to Nightlife (which i'm starting to really love) made me think - is this the first studio released song Green Day have made that has another artist featuring? Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill is in Letterbomb, but other than that i can't really think of anyone. There may be guitarists, drummers that i haven't thought of and would be interested to know if there is anyone else. Now i've said drummers there is of course Al Sobrante on the drums in 1000 hours too, but I dunno if people would count him as a featured 'guest' given that they were in the middle of changing drummers at the time.

I don't think so actually. Letterbomb and Nightlife are the only ones. For Green Day anyway. If you count side projects there's this German girl talking in X Ray Hamburger. That's it though.
Hermione Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Benmont Tench, the keyboardist of Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, played keyboards on Church On Sunday. And "Mistress Simone" is credited as the dominatrix on Blood Sex And Booze if that counts Listening to Nightlife (which i'm starting to really love) made me think - is this the first studio released song Green Day have made that has another artist featuring? He's not just on drums on 1000 Hours. He's on drums on the whole 1000 Hours EP, Slappy EP, 39/Smooth album, and Sweet Children EP. And he wrote I Was There, and played drums at all their shows/toured with them. He's wasn't a guest, he was a full member of the band the same as Billie and Mike (and as such got paid a third of the band's earnings the same as them, and still does for the releases he was on).
gnash Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 He wasn't in character, he was just very angry. It wasn't really about Steve Jobs personally, he was ranting against modern technology so in the heat of the moment he said the most offensive thing against technology he could think of (ie wishing death on an important figure in technology). Doesn't mean it was a nice thing to say, but he was wound up and said it off the top of his head for no other reason than to express his anger so you can't really judge it the same as if he'd been calm and thinking carefully. And don't forget he wrote Platypus about a real person who was dying of cancer too so you can't really let it change your opinion of him too much. He's not perfect and he gets angry and says uncalled for nasty things sometimes, not his finest hour but not something to majorly worry about either in my view. I know this is the wrong forum for this, but since it was being discussed - did anyone save the vids of Billie's Steve Jobs rant during American Idiot in Peru? Warner have had it taken down from Youtube and I'd quite like to see it again (plus the JOS performance immediately after)
DannyDirnt Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Already ordered ¡Dos! + t-shirt in an S size from fnac.it. Just wanted to say thanks

gnash Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 When did this become a self censoring fanbase? It's OK to like a song like Platypus which was specifically written to attack someone and which has been heard by millions of people, but not OK for an off the cuff angry remark to be shared among a few people who are genuinely interested?
Heather. Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Because the Steve Jobs thing has be hashed out 100 times ad nauseum here and elsewhere. I have to say though, I'm glad Billie's iHeart rant was as benign as it was. Saying he's not Justin Bieber is pretty harmless even if a few fangirls got offended. If he had really unleashed his wrath Steve Jobs-style, it would have been truly awful for Green Day's PR. Most people were just amused by the meltdown, but the Steve Jobs one would not have been amusing at all and would have been devastating for Green Day's reputation if it was put out there widespread. Like Mel Gibson damage.

gnash Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Very probably true, and I'd agree the last thing I'd want to read on here is the argument about the video's contents all over again. Just wanted to see if anyone was able and willing to let me see it again. If you remove the mention of Jobs I thought the rest of the 'speech' was powerful and a good watch. I don't think concert footage should be 'lost' just because people disagree with it.

Do you want Green Day to get tons of more hate for Billie ranting about Steve Jobs? We aren't a self-censoring but an intelligent fanbase. Green Day already got a lot of bad comment with the tiny little thing Billie said about Bieber.

You can look for djrossstar's interview with Mike for some info on that. And then there's the mysterious "Waba se Wasca" in the artists tags of At the Library. In old interviews/concerts, Billie would always say "In The Library With Waba Se Wasca" as the title of the song, and when asked about it Larry Livermore sdays it means they smoked a lot of pot in those days. I don't know if it's a featuring, a reference, or what. Also two guys from No Doubt did the horns on King For a Day.

Somehow I don't think seeing this video posted on here is suddenly going to turn the internet into a whirlwind of hate over an incident which is already clearly out of date - all I wanted to know was whether the clip has been lost forever or if anyone saved it before it was removed. Unless it turns out someone did manage to save it and volunteers to share (privately if this would be the preferred consensus!), then there's not really any more to be said and I'll drop the subject. As for the 'bad comments' - anything any band anywhere does ever will attract negativity. This is, after all, the internet, where everybody has an opinion, often ill-thought-out and provocative for the sake of it. I hardly think the band would lose any sleep over it, particularly at the moment. In a vague attempt to return this to being the Q&A thread - anyone know what the alternate lyrics in the Haushinka demos are? Sounds to be 'So take this message, my wandering one, and I'll be here in ______ waiting for you, crazy for you now' - anyone fill the gap?

Slave To The Network Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 This may seem to be a stupid question, but I've gotten so much conflicting information that I don't know what the actual truth is. Are any of the members of Green Day actually vegetarians? Mike and Tré have said that they like sushi, so they can't be, but I don't know about Billie. He's the one who always seems to mentioned when the topic comes up. I've heard it both ways.
Talesfromanotherbrokenhome Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 has anybody herd any more on billies progress and if hes coming out or already out of rehab ??????

Otherwise no, none of them are veggie.
Ritz Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 I had some questions regarding Homecoming. Are there any live recording of that song other than VH1 Storytellers? And on VH1 Storytellers, Mike is seen singing the 'I feel asleep while watching Spike Tv.' Did he sang that part in the Studio version too? And why does Tr wear headphones during live BOBD? Probably for timing correction, right? Too many questions

Yes, Mike sings all of the Nobody Likes You part; Tré sings Rock And Roll Girlfriend. They also wrote the lyrics to those parts.

Yes he sang on the studio version and the headphones most likely have a metronome playing to help keep him in time
