Hermione Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I think he's just butthurt that they got big after he left. I know I would be. It's been that way since right when he left the band though, years before they got big. I think it's more that when they split they weren't on good terms and also didn't have the same ideals about what bands should and shouldn't do. He's not in the band anymore, he left on bad terms with the other members and never reconciled with them, and he doesn't like/agree with the way the band operates. So stands to reason he's no longer interested in that part of his past and doesn't want any association with them. If he's not even cashing the cheques I doubt it's down to jealousy, from Aaron's description at least it seems he's just extremely and stubbornly idealistic.
Todd Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 He's one of the three people who made the album so he's just as entitled to his third of the earnings from it as Billie and Mike are to theirs. In Cometbus: In China With Green Day, Aaron said that John doesn't want anything to do with Green Day, to the extent that he doesn't even cash those cheques he gets from the old albums/EPs. No way to know if the cheques part is true or not, but from everything Aaron said there it sounds like since John left the band he's wanted nothing whatsoever to do with it. He said when he mentioned to John that he'd be meeting up with the band John said "Are you still hanging out with those guys?". Seems he sees Green Day as something firmly in the past that he no longer has any interest in, and that they never made up after he left. This thread isn't for thinking up questions to ask Green Day . It's just for asking questions about Green Day. I do agree his socks are awesome though. Wow. What a sore-ass. Not even cashing the checks? What did they ever do to him? I know he's an egotistic guy who knows Green Day would never be where they are today without him. With tour, they dealt with a lot of stress and you would think that with John's personality they would have broken up sooner. I don't know why he expected them to put their lives on hold for him to go to college. If they were really close and Billie and Mike replaced him, I can see how that would upset him. But after all these years you'd think he'd forgive them

But after all these years you'd think he'd forgive them I think he's just not interested. He might feel sore about it but it's not like he's going around broadcasting his opinion, he mentioned it to Aaron as he's a friend but he'd never do an interview or anything. Just sounds like he's very stubborn about his ideals and has moved on with his life so therefore he's not interested in Green Day or it's members any more. Plus any time I've ever seen Billie mention him he's had no good words to say about him so it's not like either of them are desperate to make up. Bit sad for him if he does still feel bitterness but it's not hurting anyone, he's going on with his life and Green Day are going on with theirs. Can't really judge him when we've never heard him speak about it (and almost certainly never will).

Has Mike ever said anything bad about John?
Hermione Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 What about Mike? I can't imagine anybody hating Mike. He was so goofy back then. Has Mike ever said anything bad about John? Not that I know of. I doubt they care now, they were in a band together over twenty years ago but they went their separate ways a long time ago and have their own lives now. I'm sure they still have their opinions of him due to their differences and disagreements but I doubt they're particularly interested in talking or thinking about him.
Heather. Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 John wasn't their friend before being in the band, he wasn't their friend after. Green Day always says the most important thing is playing with your friends. They would have no reason to continue contact or to care about John, he was essentially, at the end of the day, only a brief business partner.

Personally I don't understand why John would rule out being a rock star when the band was starting to work out fine to study. He could have gone ahead with Green Day and dropped it for school if it didn't work in the end. That way you also take a cool break from school and studying. Also from what I've heard of him he's pretty much a douchebag and I'm glad he left and now we have Tré because he looks much nicer and funnier.

Tre is absolutely the best thing to come out of that situation.
Todd Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Okay-more John. Why did John help produce Kerplunk if they had already split by the time Kerplunk came around? And keep in mind it had nothing to do with the Sweet Children tracks, because those have nothing to do with producing Kerplunk
isuckatthesethings Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Does the band have stylists who pick their clothes?
Todd Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 http://www.greenday.net/thenetworks.jpg Am I the only person that noticed the spelling error in this? It's official too, right?
Hermione Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 http://www.greenday....thenetworks.jpg Am I the only person that noticed the spelling error in this? It's official too, right? You know how The Network speak in fake German accents? I think they might've been trying to make it sound German there. However, to sound German it should really be "Netverk" not "Netwerk". So maybe the mistake is actually the w not the e. Unless it's meant to be the German pronunciation of w, in which case I suppose it works. Not sure though, could just be a typo.

Hermione Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Nope, Netwerk's correct. Ahh, I never thought of the fact Netwerk is the actual German word for Network. I was just thinking of how an English speaking person would write the English word Network phonetically so that it would sound like it was being said in a German accent if it was read out. In that case it all makes sense, thanks! I wonder if that was a shirt made for and sold in Germany, or if they just made it with it written in German for everyone (to go along with their fake German-ness)? Anyone know?
Kill_the_Kia Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Today I went to Padua (Northern Italy) and in a well-stocked bookshop I found this book called "Green Day Treasures"! I had never seen or heard of before! It is in English and it looked beautiful! Only it was too expensive! Some of you have it?

kerplunk_chick Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 How do we even know that these were singles? I didn't know they even had singles, honestly. But Wikipedia says "Joe Robot" and "Teenagers from Mars" are the two singles, while the band's site says the singles are "Teenagers from Mars" and "Hammer of the Gods", which were the two songs added to the remastered Money Money 2020 album they put out.
Heather. Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Hermione posted these old photos of Billie's house recently and I was wondering if anyone knew what the poster on the back wall is?

Mar Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 This image that was used extensively throughout the 21CB era (as this single cover shows) - was this image created by someone hired to create artwork for 21CB, or was it created before Green Day used it/unrelated to 21CB? I was reading a story today about a singer campaigning for Obama and she had a T-shirt with this stencil on it, but no Green Day logo was visible (may have been hidden by her blazer, but I'm not sure) and I was trying to figure out any contexts this image could have been used aside from 21CB promo (unless it was later used without permission for something related to Occupy, but, again, I don't know).

Do you have the source for the woman that wore the stencil while campaigning? If you are referring to this, it IS a Green Day shirt. I have the same one and the words "Green Day" are actually on the back of the shirt.
