Certified Nimrod Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 You shouldn't have to. This probably won't make sense to anyone (or to Not Anyone. ), but I say words in my head completely different than how I say them out loud.
The Disappearing Boy Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 This probably won't make sense to anyone (or to Not Anyone. ), but I say words in my head completely different than how I say them out loud. How is this even possible?
Certified Nimrod Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 How id this even possible? I can't explain it.
green day is Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Not everybody subvocalizes, guys. I don't.
Todd Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Not everybody subvocalizes, guys. I don't. Shit, I might. It's hard to explain
green day is Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Shit, I might. It's hard to explain If, when you read, you have a voice in your head that says the words as you go along, you subvocalize. That's called subvocalization. You can teach yourself not to do it but it takes dedication. That's how most speedreaders do what they do, but not all people who don't subvocalize are speedreaders. You can also teach yourself not to "say" the words when you think, which I kind of did but I'm not quite there yet. It's gonna take some effort and constant awareness before I can totally do it. Right I'd say I'm at the stage of "start a thought with a voice then stop" which probably doesn't make a lot of sense to people who aren't actually in my head. tl;dr your conscious thought is extremely malleable, go read some psychology papers/Buddhist teachings.
Guest Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I can naturally switch it on and off. When I read normally I subvocalise, but when I speed read I don't. /off-topic
green day is Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I can naturally switch it on and off. When I read normally I subvocalise, but when I speed read I don't. /off-topic Most can. From what I've read talking to others and from what I actually experience myself, it depends on what you're reading. Most people seem to subvocalize when someone is actually speaking to them, eg; a text message or over Facebook and don't subvocalize when reading for information eg; textbooks or news articles. /it's-alright
WhiteTim Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Derry, Maine, you illiterate cretin. It's a reference to It by Stephen King (my favorite book). You sir rock

AlissaGoesRAWR Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 As an aside, it's always pissed me off how they got the grammar of the title wrong. The woman is called Babs, so it should be Babs' Uvula Who, not Bab's. Ugh, ANOTHER grammatical fuck up that I have to be aware of now? Dammit. As if Novacaine wasn't bad enough. You'd think they could afford a proofreader for their song titles.

You'd think they could afford a proofreader for their song titles. Novacaine doesn't have to be wrong. It could be a portmanteau. I don't know if I'd go as far as to assume it is, but a Nova would be a perfect metaphor for a high.

As much as I love Billie, I think he's much more likely to misspell something than be that creative.

Jon Benjamin Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Bab's Uvula Who lyrics: 'audnfen MFMFEP wjdlfIEFIEM iefmkam#'; eifm and I'm all wound up!' And repeat. Also is it Uv-ooo-lah or Uv-you-lah? And what on earth does it mean?! uv-yuh-luh someone said it was the other, I don't know if it's regional or what but I've only heard doctors and nurses say uv-yuh-luh
