WhiteTim Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 And I forgot that alcohol could make a person's voice higher. Actually I didn't forget it because I never knew it in the first place. Probably because it isn't true and was an extremely retarded thing to suggest. I don't have to examine Billie's vocal chords to know that alcohol doesn't magically expand someone's range (in fact it's been shown to have a harmful effect on one's singing!) and as I showed when talking to Hermione his range has done nothing but expand. His voice isn't fucked up and nobody was saying that in the first place, the question was why it had changed, and the answer is that he's aged and gone through both formal and informal training. Those are the facts and trying to pin it on irrelevant shit justifies any accusation of someone not knowing what they're talking about. Which brings us back to the statement: If you don't know the answer, don't give an answer. If you think you can tell my tone through text, a million examples of missed sarcasm will beg to differ. For the record, my head voice's tone in the case of my last couple posts has been more of a "what the fuck are you talking about" sort of confusion mixed with a "this is what it really is" type of directness. I think they are saying it to you cause sometimes some of your posts do come off as you 'being a dick and I know this and you dont' way (not that I'm attackin ya for that as I am the same way in posts as well) tho you probally (like me) dont mean to come across as a dick know it all
Spike Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 As much as I can't be arsed getting into some stupid argument, I will say this: I never actually said his range had been affected by alcohol. Read my posts. I just didn't. I said his voice sounds higher. There's a difference. It's undeniable that during live shows in recent years his vocal cords have been strained due to alcohol, and as such while he's been singing the same notes as he always has, the harmonics that come through are higher. Listen to the iHeart performance for the most obvious example of this. This isn't the case in the studio because obviously when the band are recording he looks after his voice better and doesn't have an entire show to get through in one shot. I know he's worked on his voice for years and expanded his range through working his arse off on account of the fact I'm not a fucking cabbage. Yes, fine, if someone isn't sure of the answer then maybe they shouldn't answer, but there's no need to be so obnoxious when correcting people.

That's very much not the same as saying "his voice is higher". As if iHeart counts, he was actively intoxicated there. He was probably dehydrated too. That's an awful example whether you agree that his voice is thinner or not (which I don't).
Ritz Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Does anyone have the full video of this ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-idGjigTqZA Its from the dos trailer

As if iHeart counts, he was actively intoxicated there. He was probably dehydrated too. That's an awful example whether you agree that his voice is thinner or not (which I don't). It's just the most obvious example. As if that was the first time he'd ever gigged while actively intoxicated. And higher harmonics = thinner sounding voice. I aware I didn't specify that in my original post, but I'm not backtracking, I'm just clarifying. He seems to have turned it around vocally since rehab and sounds better than ever at the moment, so all this is kind of irrelevant.
Guest Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 He seems to have turned it around vocally since rehab and sounds better than ever at the moment, so all this is kind of irrelevant. Correction: He sounds as bad as he's ever sounded since rehab. In fact, not much has changed in his voice since even before rehab. Ever since 2012 his vocals have been pretty weak and he's consistently had trouble hitting notes. Where he used to shout lines for emphasis, he's now doing it because he just can't get the note.

And your example of that is Waiting? That's just unfair Do you have any examples of that? Because now I'm just thinking of all the highs in Foreverly, and the high variation of the pre chorus in Stay The Night live.

Hey, if he can't sing, he shouldn't sing one of his most vocally challenging songs He hits all the stuff in the studio fine (yay editing and multiple takes) but generally live he's been consistently off key since the end of the 21stCB tour. I find a good way to notice this is when Mike's backing vocals clash with Billies. When Billie is on form their voices sync up and it sounds great, but nowadays Mike is singing the harmonies and Billie is nowhere near him. It's RockAM again but there isn't a tonne of pro-shot footage from the past two years that isn't edited to fuck.

I know Mike isn't the greatest of singers but he's always bang on when it comes to his backing, so yeah. I agree he should never do Waiting live, even the studio version is a bit of a fail. It's a shame, it's a damn good song.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Probably because it isn't true and was an extremely retarded thing to suggest. Would you use the word retarded when talking with someone with a developmentally disabled family member? I'm sorry, but for someone who is concerned about sounding dumb, it just makes you sound foolish, immature and ignorant to what the word actually means. I agree he should never do Waiting live, even the studio version is a bit of a fail. It's a shame, it's a damn good song. FALSE! He should do Waiting live when I'm around.

Yes and I'd expect them to use their skills in reason and context to realize what's meant by it. As for what it "actually means", you'd have to be pretty retarded yourself to think language can't or doesn't evolve and change over time. The fact that you can do things "ironically" now speaks for that entirely. That idea didn't exist several years ago. If someone uses a word and you understand what they meant by it, they've used it correctly. I'm entirely unsure where you're going with this now btw. If you want to talk about words I can talk about words all day, I love language, but I don't really think this is the thread for that.
Hermione Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Yeah, if you guys want to continue your discussion do it via PM please.

Punkfreak1414 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Can I have a link to a 21st century breakdown thread? I just want to see what people were writing about it before it came out and when it came out back in 2009 (:

I just want to see what people were writing about it before it came out and when it came out back in 2009 (:Search for "21st century breakdown" with the search engine and you'll find a lot of threads! For example:http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/66031-sample-of-a-new-song-at-green-daycom/http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/68680-listen-to-the-whole-album-now/http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/70326-21st-century-breakdown/I tried posting the link to the search results but it doesn't work. We used to have a whole subforum with threads for each 21stCB song, but I guess it's been archived or something.Wasn't expecting to find old posts made when I was 15

You can download this with a bunch of other things released at that time in this thread here: http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/92873-greendaycom-phone-message/ Unfortunately, there aren't any "good" quality versions. Looks like it came out right before 2002. I can also upload it for you individually if you'd like
Certified Nimrod Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Does anyone have the full video of this ? I don't think anyone does (except for the band's video people). I do know that the woman is Lady Cobra and she sang for a bit after pushing Billie. It's from Red 7.
