Asa. Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Green Day is eligible for induction into the Rock Hall of Fame next year. Do you think they will be inducted? Yes. http://www.uproxx.com/music/2012/09/predicting-the-next-five-years-of-rock-n-roll-hall-of-fame-inductees/
Guest Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Green Day is eligible for induction into the Rock Hall of Fame next year. Do you think they will be inducted? Probably not. Public interest in Green Day has pretty much been exclusively iHeart since 2010 or so. Green Day haven't been this irrelevant since the Warning days. They might get in if their next album doesn't completely blow. That said, it's not like it matters much. It's just a backslapping match for all the big names in music/entertainment. Who cares, really.
WhiteTim Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Yes. http://www.uproxx.com/music/2012/09/predicting-the-next-five-years-of-rock-n-roll-hall-of-fame-inductees/ I dont think that sites not really legit they say Dr Dre isnt eligible until 2017 but he started in music 5 years before Green Day so if GD is eligible next year Dre has already been eligible. ...

And next year, the year they would be eligible is the 10th and 20th anniversaries of said albums. I thought with 21 CB being so successful (although I have my own opinions on that album), they more or less secured it. I mean, I agree, not getting in wouldn't be the end of the world, but despite the obvious critics, the band is still more popular than many. Maybe not AI caliber, but there's still interest. They were asked to induct Guns N' Roses at a time when they were more or less irrelevant.

You ask a person on the street about Green Day, and they're most likely gonna say "oh, the 'I'm not fucking Justin Bieber' guy?". That's who Green Day are to a lot of people now. They might have heard one or two songs, Green Day are losing their mainstream appeal fast. The general public is a fickle bitch.
Dillwad Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 This question is regarding Billie Joe's BLUE guitar. Does anyone know if (and what songs) Billie Joe has ever used his BLUE guitar in the studio to record actual songs on any of the Green Day albums?

Does anyone know if (and what songs) Billie Joe has ever used his BLUE guitar in the studio to record actual songs on any of the Green Day albums? He used blue on all albums until Nimrod from Nimrod to 21st it was used on some songs along with Les Pauls Blue doesnt make an apperence on any of the trilogy albums
Dillwad Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 You sure about this? I know he used Blue exclusively live up until Nimrod, but just wondering if he didn't use different guitars in the studio recordings.
Fuzz Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 I think so. Most people I've ever talked to casually about them know them as something for their music ("Oh the band that does Wake Me Up When September Ends", or "Oh those guys who played Basket Case"). No doubt iHeart got a huge amount of mainstream traction, but I feel pretty confident in saying most people know of them for their music.
Jollyroger118 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I agree, I've never brought up Green Day to anyone where they said "Oh the guy who had that freak out"? I mean I doubt anyone really watches Iheart and if they do its not for bands like Green Day. Green Day made two huge ground breaking albums, have legions of fans, put punk back on the map while doing something different with it and have influenced pretty much every rock band of the last twenty years. They're going in the hall of fame. I'd say it's a guarantee. The halls not for people with the latest and greatest it's for their whole careers and what they contributed to rock and roll. Green Day will be there
WhiteTim Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 You sure about this? I know he used Blue exclusively live up until Nimrod, but just wondering if he didn't use different guitars in the studio recordings. Unless all the articles ive ever seen was a lie then yes im sure
Spike Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I think so. I really disagree with that. The general public were already losing interest in Green Day long before iHeart, which is why the singles from 21st Century Breakdown didn't do very well. I'd say they're still best known by non-fans for Basket Case, BOBD or WMUWSE. The iHeart thing was a minor story really. This question is regarding Billie Joe's BLUE guitar. Does anyone know if (and what songs) Billie Joe has ever used his BLUE guitar in the studio to record actual songs on any of the Green Day albums? He definitely used Blue exclusively on 39/Smooth and Kerplunk, and probably Dookie and Insomniac. Not sure about Nimrod, he had quite a few Blue copies by then so he probably mixed it up a bit. Warning was a combination of Blue, his original Les Paul Junior, an SG and probably a few other electrics. American Idiot was mostly Les Pauls, both Juniors and Standards. I don't think he used Blue at all on that album. He might have used Blue on 21st Century Breakdown, but my only real evidence for that is that he plays the title track live on Blue. Blue isn't on the Trilogy. As for the hall of fame, I think it could be a while before they get in. Just because they can get in straight away doesn't mean they will. There have been loads of bands who've deserved to go in straight away but had to wait years. Not that it really means much, it's just symbolic really.

Yeah, I'm always interested by the fact that people treat the Trilogy as an out-of-nowhere sales disaster. I mean, it certainly was a disaster, but the decline from AI to 21CB was already incredibly sharp—the latter was their second-worst performing album after Warning until 2012.

It's not even that I'd say 21CB was a disaster, American Idiot was an exceptional spike. It's never been a surprise that their sales have slumped back down to average since then.

Oh and iHeart too, but certainly not for much else.
walking_c0ntradicti0n Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Ok, im not 100% sure where this would be posted but i found some link to this thread from i forget what. Anyway, im trying to finish the solo for Worry Rock but i can't tell if im playing it right cause of the other instruments. I saw a video in Unpopular Opinions with the laugh from Christian's Inferno with no other instruments. Is it any way possible for someone in this place to do something like that for the Worry Rock solo?
Certified Nimrod Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I saw a video in Unpopular Opinions with the laugh from Christian's Inferno with no other instruments. Is it any way possible for someone in this place to do something like that for the Worry Rock solo? The Christian's Inferno laugh from probably from the Rock Band multi-tracks. Worry Rock was not on Rock Band.
green day is Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 More likely to be Tre as drummer usually keep count and we saw him count it in the Heart Like a Hand Grenade preview on youtube. If there were a pause before it that would be likely, like when they do EJN live before the "finale". I'm 3000% sure that it's Billie in St. Jimmy. It'd be really retarded for him to say "1, 2" and then pause for four eighth notes in such a quick song (or any song, really) for Tré to shout "1 2 3 4". Also, contrary to popular belief, everyone keeps their own count. Usually the same. That's how they keep in sync. Ok, im not 100% sure where this would be posted but i found some link to this thread from i forget what. I don't recall if there are any "extra bits" in Worry Rock, but most of it just follows the vocal melody, so if you can read sheet music you might look up the Nimrod tab book pdf since they always include the vocal melody.

The Disappearing Boy Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 That surprises me, given the huge turnouts they always get over there. I guess they have a loyal fanbase here, but aren't that well known outside of it. They don't get played on the radio that often.
Spike Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I guess they have a loyal fanbase here, but aren't that well known outside of it. They don't get played on the radio that often. Exactly. The thing people seem to overlook is the fact it's now nearly 10 years since Green Day were massive over here. They have an incredibly loyal and enthusiastic fanbase, and massive interest when they play festivals and stuff, but they're barely in mainstream consciousness anymore, and it's not really that surprising.
Connor Finlayson Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Whats the deal with blue. Is it a replica or is there only one? Or are there diffrent versions of it? This is the only reason I think he might use replicas some of the time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1ML6kerpR8

This is the only reason I think he might use replicas some of the time yes he has a lot of replicas and had different versions thought the years. i think the ''real one'' broke during woodstock.
Liam Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Whats the deal with blue. Is it a replica or is there only one? Or are there diffrent versions of it? This is the only reason I think he might use replicas some of the time He used replicas live during the Nirmod era as well as the original but he hated them all. Now he only uses the original Blue and a telecaster that has the same slanted pick up that Blue has. The replica in the video was one he had made for the South American tour of the 21st Century Breakdown tour because the original was in for maintenance. He smashed that one because the string broke but he continued to use it.

This is the only reason I think he might use replicas some of the time Yeah, that's definitely a replica. It looks in too good condition to be Blue, he has loads of replicas. The real one has a photo stuck to the back. I doubt he'd ever treat the real thing like that!
