The Disappearing Boy Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Why is it that Mike is always on the right and Jason is always on the left of the stage (from the audience's pov) After green day stopped AI touring what was the timeline for when recording commenced for 21CB or did they still do shows etc in between. They did the project with U2 in 2006, as well as Working Class Hero and the Simpsons Movie in 2007, but I think they spent a bit of time apart. I think they started recording mid-to-late 2008, and finished recording early 2009. They did a show in April 2009 which was their first full Green Day show since Dec 2005.

This is mostly true but I don't think they spent much time apart, they've said they went back into the studio and started working on (what would become) 21st CB in January 2006. And of course they did the Foxboro album in 2007 and Foxboro tour in 2008. They didn't do much stuff in public but I think they were doing stuff behind the scenes most of the time, I seem to remember them saying the only proper break they took was for a couple of months in 2007 when they each went off on various holidays.
Spike Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Why is it that Mike is always on the right and Jason is always on the left of the stage (from the audience's pov). It's just like that because it is. Being in a band you just kind of have your stage position to start with and it just sticks. It can be a matter of preference though - as a bassist myself, as well as just feeling more comfortable on the right of the stage (from te audience's pov) I find it useful to be stood on the side of the drummer nearest the hihat so I can always hear the beat as clearly as possible. There's also the fact that the back line will be set up a certain way, so the bass amps are on the right for example, so it makes sense for Mike to be stood in front of them as he uses them as monitors. If you look at pretty much any other band you can think of all of the members will maintain their positions on the stage at every gig.

I'm always on stage right and I'm a bassist but I don't need to hear anything off the stage either, every band should invest in in ears it makes such a difference.

I suppose it's just intuitive to stand on whatever side the cabs are at, though. Plus I doubt they had in-ears up until Dookie at the earliest, so when Jason joined them live it just made sense for him to fill the available space stage left rather than Mike moving for no real reason.

alexwetherell Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 What do you think the chances are of Green Day headlining Glastonbury 2014? I know they've said they'll take a break after their Australian tour but they'res still a 2/3 month gap between the two and Michael Eavis has said that the three headliners have never played Glastonbury. This narrows it down a lot surely? They'res not many world famous bands that haven't played Glastonbury... maybe it's Green Day's time?
The Disappearing Boy Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I'd be very surprised, but you never know!

Spike Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Did Mike legally change his surname to Dirnt? I'm just wondering because of how Brittney goes by Brittney Cade Dirnt as opposed to Pritchard.
