I've heard that this letter was actually written by John not Billie. Reading it, and looking at the signature, I believe that to be the case.

How much is a John signature worth would you guys say?

Oh im just joking anyways lol

I dont hate John but I doubt his signature is worth much if anything at all

Like Chad Channing (the drummer of Nirvana before Dave) is worth 5-10 bucks and he played drums on Bleach and 1 song on Nevermind

Adrienne has a degree in sociology or psychology? :o

John left in 1990, I'm sure there are very little signed things by him, he hates Green Day and won't sign anything anymore, so they gotta be worth something

Only if Mike or Billie signed as well

Only a die hard die hard fan would care for just a John signature

How much would you pay?

Pretty much, he assumed Billie and Mike would wait for him to finish college, and got mad that they replaced him. According to Aaron Cometbus, John rips up the checks he gets from his earnings of 1039 and kerplunk... so he's still a little sour about them

I've been looking for the Q&A part from the 2005 Time Talks with Billie and I can't seem to find it anywhere... Does anybody have the link?

It's been twenty years, bro. He's like forty now. I doubt he's still mad about them replacing him, and assuming Aaron Cometbus wasn't stretching the truth with that comment that doesn't mean he hates them.

No... I'm loooking for the end of this interview where the audience asks him questions, I think theres only the audio of the Q&A, someone asked him something about the song Reject and he was like "...Which song is Reject?" . At some poiner he was asked to sing right there and he said he neeeded a guitar, and ended up singing one verse of wmuwsr

I'm not quite sure where I read this, so I may be completely wrong since I don't have a verified source to back me up, but I swear I remember reading something that stated John is happily married and has a couple of kids now, and while he doesn't particularly like talking about the band, he doesn't seem extremely bitter towards them. Again, I may be way off, since I have no idea where I read that. But, it's been 20 years, and John would have to be very, very boring, sad, and angry if he still hated Billie and Mike after 20 years when really, the decision was his to make. He wasn't kicked out. He could have stayed in if he really wanted to.

(And ripping up the checks might not mean he hates Green Day. Maybe he just doesn't want the royalties. I assume the royalties are very rare, anyway, since he only played on 1,000 Hours and a couple of EPs, which probably don't earn the band a ton of money anymore.)

Aaron Cometbus only said he doesn't cash the cheques not that he rips them up :P, and even that can be taken with a pinch of salt considering it's Aaron Cometbus saying it lol. Everything Aaron said about it in In China With Green Day points towards John just having a very strong set of ideals that he won't compromise, and having moved on from being in Green Day a long time ago. He differs from them ideal-wise, but it seems more like he just doesn't want anything to do with a part of his life that's over than that he's angry.

He played on everything before Kerplunk so he'd get quite a lot. He'd get a third of the royalties for 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours (and for 39/Smooth and the two EPs that were combined to make it), and some for Kerplunk as well since there's the Sweet Children EP on the end of it. Must have added up to a lot over the years. However whether he's never cashed them, has stopped cashing them, just didn't cash some of them, or has really cashed all of them is anyone's guess, it's second hand info so I don't think we can take much from it other than it backing up the idea that he feels strongly about his ideals and isn't interested in being associated with Green Day any more.

Now I'm curious about what ideals those are..? Is it something known, or just Aaron's rhetoric?

Punk ideals I suppose, he was very against major labels for example so he wouldn't have approved of Green Day signing to one. Aaron paints a picture of him as someone who is very stubborn about what he thinks is right and wrong and won't compromise over it, and as someone who sees Green Day as part of his past and something he hasn't wanted to be associated with since he left the band. I don't think that necessarily means he hates them or anything like that, they're just very different to each other and have gone down different paths in life. If he's heard all the negative stuff Billie's said about him over the years I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't like them much lol, but mostly it just seems he's moved on and isn't interested in them.

Assumed so. Thank you. :)
