green day is Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 unheard unreleased songs, or ones that we have studio recordings of, or live unreleased songs? I think it's safe to say he wants all the songs that weren't on studio or compilation albums and aren't just live versions of ones on studio/comp albums.
MaraGreenDay Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 The girl is Penelope Houston who wrote it, Billie Joe does backing vocals and the music, it was recorded for some movie/show then scrapped, and Friends picked it up, so it's on one of their seasons' soundtracks. It's in an episode with a party playing at the party. Thanks! The only thing that i knew was that it was on Friends

tubbyfox Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 What's the beginning of the Billie quote: ..."and sometimes I feel like she married the end of the world"?
Jax Teller Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 What's the beginning of the Billie quote: ..."and sometimes I feel like she married the end of the world"? It's from an interview from Alternative Press back in 2008. You buck the rock-star model with talk like that, you know. I don’t know--having a family is a learning process for me, too. I happen to have a really patient wife, and she’s really cool, and she’s really a politically conscious person, especially with environmental issues, and I think she has this sort of fear of the end of the world that’s naturally embedded into her. And sometimes I think that she may have married the end of the world. [Laughs.] So I don’t know, hopefully between the two of us we can raise a family together and lean on each other.

Hermione Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 What the hell is Hard Times and Wonderful? Wonderful is a song that Butch Vig said said Billie wrote around the time Obama was elected. He said it was a really happy, surfy sounding song, but it didn't fit on 21st CB. No one's heard it. Is paper lanterns about getting freind zoned? Well, it's about being attracted to a girl and wanting to be in a romantic relationship with her, and feeling sad that she doesn't want it to be anything more than a friendship. I wouldn't say the lyrics express the bitter, childish, entitled attitude that comes with this new idea of "friend zoning" though, so I'd say no. Sounds like although he feels sad and is having trouble getting rid of his romantic feelings for her he accepts the situation rather than being whiny and bitter about it.

I thought Paper Lanterns were about fancy Japanese dinners. But for real that's what I picture.

Jon Benjamin Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Must be thinking of Japanese lanterns That is literally the picture I see haha cause they're like made of paper or whatever.
Hermione Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 That is literally the picture I see haha cause they're like made of paper or whatever. Lol that's what I picture when I hear the title too! Actually I wonder why the song is called Paper Lanterns? Does anyone have any idea?
Jon Benjamin Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Lol that's what I picture when I hear the title too! Actually I wonder why the song is called Paper Lanterns? Does anyone have any idea? Obviously the most reasonable explanation. The girl the song is about and Billie used to go "as friends" to Japanese steak houses where Billie bought loads of dank ass chronic from Japanese drug lords. Then she was like oh, you smoke, I don't want a relationship, but let's still eat this nice dinner while I tear your heart out. But really, did he know Haushinka back then? Cause the whole Japanese possible theme..

Cause the whole Japanese possible theme.. Well obviously Hmm, I tend to think this was about a different girl since it was a couple of years before Haushinka was written, and paper lanterns aren't an exclusively Japanese thing so it'd be a bit of a tenuous link. Maybe it was like with Dry Ice (and quite a few of their songs) where they just wanted an non-boring title so they came up with one that's not actually linked to the song that much. I'd like to know though, someone needs to ask this in an interview!

Wonderful was played at a 2009 soundcheck, no recording though. I'd love to hear it, I'd imagine it sounds wonderful! What the hell is Hard Times and Wonderful? Hard Times was on a tracklist thing on Cuatro

Sylend Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Hello Boys and Girls, i was wondering if billie can actually read notes. And dont tell me that he is writing the songs... you can do that without reading notes. From an 1995 interview with billie: "Basically, it wasn't like guitar lessons because I never really learned how to read music. So he just taught me how to put my hands on the thing." Is he NOW able to read notes? Would be cool to know that. Thanks! (now the right thread/section? )
