Is Green Day still playing good music?

Everyone has a different opinion on what good music is, in my opinion the new material is garbage lyrically, it has some nice hooks and references.

It's not all garbage, let yourself go isn't a masterpiece but Kill the DJ has some awesome lines

"we are the vultures, the dirtiest kind, the culture war is in your heart and your mind"

" sodom and gomorrah In the century of thrills"

I remember some guy replying to some other guy who was whining that The Offspring changed, the new Offspring sucked, the Offspring sold out, etc. etc. etc. He said duh, as soon as a punk band have been around long enough, its members will learn how to actually play their instruments and learn a thing or two about writing songs. If they are around long enough that's inevitable and so they must grow out of 'punk'. He said this ain't necessarily a bad thing, it just all depends on what direction you take afterwards and how you adapt. Green Day had started that with Warning, proving themselves not just punk fans but music fans in the process. They definitely did it by American Idiot. Which i say was a damn good (and unexpected) metamorphosis.

WrongwaytoSalvation just seems to constantly go on about how much better other things are and how wrong everybody is about everything and how he's musically superior and has a broader mind than anybody else :L nobody minds you stating your opinion and being passionate about it but when you're putting everyone down and making out they're inferior, it just makes you sound like a dick. For the record btw, i actually do agree with the odd thing he says but quite often he goes about in a real condesending way, maybe he's just trying to be "punk as fuck" he's sure as hell trying to be perfect :L

All in my opinion ofc

Heh, i call that the 'do-you-like-the-right-bands-olympics.'

Yep I agree/take back all that I have said opposing UNO which I was becoming very skeptical of through recent months but now things have been put to rest and all is fucking awesome! It is great.

How can I describe it...... hmmmmm...... well ok...

If the Ramones, Green Day and the Beatles had a threesome and used the clashes sabotaged condom the baby would be !UNO! and I think I mean that in a good way! A very excellently good way.

I haven't heard it yet (I'm holding out until the 25th), but it sounds great! I can't wait to listen to it!

Playing good music? After listening to Uno!, yes, I believe that they are.

I'm disappointed in some of the songwriting lyrically, but this music is catchy, it's fun, and it's what Green Day (and their fans) want.

Simple reply to you is "YES" ....

Of corse they are

The guitar work is very simple, and it became even more evident to me when I started playing guitar and studying music more. It can get on my nerves sometimes but then I'll listen to one of their other songs that doesn't follow that same old method and I'll be happy again.

One of their main issues, and don't get too mad at me, is that Tre's drumming is beyond stupidly simple and unimaginative. It brings their songs down big time. It just makes everything sound the same. Take a look at blink - even if you don't like their music, Travis brings something special to pretty much every song that makes what might be the same chord progression as the last song, sound completely different.

Don't get me wrong, I love the band but Tré could bring them to an even higher level if he felt like it.

Have you heard Uno! ? The answer is yes!

Chords don't really matter in my opinion. Sure it's does help a lot to have some fresh chord structures, but chord progression is too basic of a song constituent to be considered that significant in deciding song quality.
