I definitely don't think this is going to be anywhere near the best song in terms of quality of the music and lyrics, but I do really like it, and it will be EPIC live. I'm looking forward to TRE for some of the better written songs. But I agree that this is an epic "fuck you" song, and will be amazing live. Also, love the freedom of the guitar solo.

Well, the studio version is...um...well, lets all just be thankful that we were treated to the live version first.

I already knew that I love it, but just in case: I love it. :P

See, I think that's why it's so great. GD tried to (and succeeded) write a grand rock album with incredibly deep lyrics and a deep meaning. They tried again (and failed) to do the same thing with 21CB, which I believe will someday be remembered as GD's worst record, their "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace", "Hot Space" or "The Final Cut".

Instead of continuing on with the deep, cutting lyrics and edge-pushing thematic elements, they made the decision to get back to the fun, punk-poppy material that made them famous. Does it sound exactly the same as 10/39, Kerplunk or Dookie? No, but that's a good thing. If it did, half the people here would be complaining that all GD did was copy their classic material, and the other half would still be drooling over anything GD did, good, bad or terrible, and cussing out anyone who disliked the new material (but no one would use "fuck" more than seven times in any post  ).

I think it's telling that GD had strayed away a bit from the heavy AI material that basically introduced a new legion of fans to their work, and while this still has a pop-punk sound to it, the Ramones-ish beat, catchy lyrics and overall bounciness of it make it feel more punk than pop, and that's a good thing in my book.

I really disagree about 21st Century Breakdown - it's my favorite album to date (though thus far I expect that to change). Then again, I also like Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace . But I think that 21CB is actually really good. I don't think that they made the choice to "go back" (to punk "roots" they never fully embraced up to this point) because they didn't like the last albums... But just because after walking in the same direction for awhile, sometimes, you just wanna do an about face just for the hell of it.

I knew once I first heard the live version that this would be one of my favorites off Uno. Holy shit. I love it when Green Day songs are just a big middle finger to the world. I especially love the "SHUT THE FUCK UPPPPP" in the background in the second verse

I was walking around my school's campus today listening to this and fighting the urge to just break out and sing it at the top of my lungs. This song is going to be epic live... I can't wait to just lose my shit when they play it on tour.

Another meh song. I'll have some skippers in this record.

I like this song a lot. It's not going to "change my life" like other Green Day songs, but I can't imagine skipping it. The chorus is much less tiring than other repetitive choruses in spite of itself, and the "gotta let it go gotta let it go" really does help diffuse that.

I didn't listen to the live version too many times, so I don't feel disappointed at all my the studio version. I learned my lesson with Kill the DJ to simply expect different things.

Agree with every point. I feel like we're on the exact same page when it comes to the band's career album-by-album. Ramones was also the first thing I thought of when listening to this. I think it's better than the live version but I look forward to hearing it at a gig, plenty of energy and I am glad they did bring this out after Oh Love which was almost defined by it's lack of tempo. I love the harmony of the chorus, the way the backing vocal and main vocals kind of ascend on top of one another.

Don't think it's the best "fuck you" song in their catalogue though, Platypus, Reject and Ha Ha You're Dead are better for my money.

WHY??? "I dont give a damn anyway"ruins it. If you dont give a damn, then say fuck!!! But there's something about the filter of these songs that I dont like. Like, remember in that interview they said that the songs were recorded like live songs? And they didnt edit the songs and make them sound studio crisp? I dont like that. I can't put my finger on it, but theres something about the studio versions that I dont like. The live versions are fine though.

You'd probably think less of me after I stated my position that Warning sucked, sucks, and always will suck. I seem to be in the extremely vast minority (ha ha I made a pun) on that topic here.

Ramones was also the first thing I thought of when listening to this.

Ramones is where my mind initially went with this, but after hearing it a couple of times, my mind did drift over towards a Chuck Berry number. The lyrics and song structure aren't going to be mistaken for it, but the guitar solo is very reminiscent of "Johnny B. Goode" and "Katmandu" to me. Not so much in that they sound exactly alike, but that they all have that kind of "I'm gonna take this wherever I want to take it," vibe. I'm sure I could list off a dozen more examples of that 60's/70's rock sound that it has, which is probably no coincidence. Might not have been intentional by the band, but a lot of the riffs and guitar styling heard in those rock songs would go on to shape a lot of the punk guitar sound.

This is going to be an absolutely blistering live number once it gets to the large-scale production of a tour stage, and I'm looking forward to that.

I thought of Platypus some with this song, but the lyrics aren't nearly as spiteful and dark. I consider this to be more of a tell-off song than a fuck-off-and-die song, like Platypus or the alluded-to FOD.

Not every expletive has to be of the F-bomb variety. I commend GD to a point for using damn instead of fuck, even if it was only in that one instance.

I think it adds a little to the song that he changed it to 'damn' because it makes it seem like the anger 'grows' as the song progresses. It isn't as though he uses the f-bomb sparingly, anyway. He slathers it on that song like BBQ sauce.

On the cover art, Billie Joe's t-shirt that's hanging down out of his jacket kinda looks like bikini bottoms or women's underwear. Maybe it is. Who knows? :sherlock:

I can't undo what has been seen!

Really love this song - my favourite of the three singles so far, although i already feel Stay the Night will be favourite from Uno from the live versions i've heard.

think this song will be epic live - they should make it mandatory to jump up and down for the entire 3 mins!

They played Let Yourself Go at all of the 3 shows in Germany, it was awesome!

Posted

shame they kept the repetitive chorus. I hope that won't become a feature of these records.

All the songs that i have heard from the trilogy have been amazing....

i am not disappointed so far...

the 3 singles that have been released have been amazing.

Cant wait for iUNO!

How will they release Stay the Night with only 19 days to go?

I don't mind the abbreviation but it honestly took me 10 seconds of "WTF song is he talking about 1,2,3?" I like it better than UDT because that reminds me too much of UTI (urinary tract infection  )

According to Green Day’s Facebook page, If it’s not available in your countryalready (eg. in the UK) then LYG definitely will be tomorrow.

Sounds like they’re definitely ‘debuting’ this at the VMAs :)
