What a pleasant surprise! I know what's going to be on repeat for the rest of the night. :D

Some initial thoughts:

-I dig the vocal effects in the recording, especially in the beginning. It adds an atmosphere to the song that we obviously didn't hear during the live version.

-The growl in Billie's voice the first time he says "And I don't give a fuuuuuuck" anyway" is so fiery--a perfect moment of tension before the chorus.

-The now-discernible bridge lyric (i.e. "And I've gotta let it go") is making me reconsider the song's meaning. I'd previously thought Let Yourself Go was more of an "eff the world and the assholes who inhabit it" song, but that line makes me wonder if interpreting it as a self-directed assault on one's own demons is more accurate. I feel like there's more to these lyrics than initially apparent, so I commend Billie Joe on that.

-I was taken aback when I heard those harmonies kick in during the chorus! A lot of the new material reminds me of 39/Smooth and Kerplunk harmony-wise, just with better production value. Uno will be a beautiful thing!

As I just posted on Twitter: Anyone who was skeptical about Green Day really needs to listen to "Let Yourself Go". Put those concerns to rest. This is Green Day.

I know this post won't be popular, but let me preface this by saying this is the best song from the new album(s) so far, but that's not exactly groundbreaking.

The first thing I thought of when I heard this song was that it was a pussified version of Platypus. The generic "I'm angry/you suck" lyrics make me cringe slightly, but then I had to remind myself that the 2012 Green Day is a completely different and utterly warped version of the original band I fell in love with years and years ago. The frantic sneering recklessness of their earlier records has been replaced by hand-clappers and very basic rock and roll riffs.

Not that that's altogether a bad thing, and I'm not bashing Green Day for changing their sound - bands change, and clearly GD has thrived off of their transition, but ever since American Idiot I don't think the songwriting has any particular ache, grudge, or legitimate spark. Sure, it makes me want to grab my guitar and play along, clap my hands and smile a bit, but I genuinely have no desire to lose myself to any of these songs.

Is it a good song? Yes. Is it a great song? No. I like the simple and catchy chorus, I like Billie Joe's guitar solo, but otherwise it's just a snappy tune.

I think that's quite an accurate review when you only listen to the slight surface of the lyrics. But I think Alaniluau has a solid point that the bridge brings a whole new perspective to the lyrics and make the meaning go actually deeper than just the simple "I'm angry and I will express it with some fuck you's", and could be something like wanting the voices in your head to stop because they make you go fucking crazy.

But in my opinion the song really works in both ways really well!

:woot: I freakin' love it! I don't even know if I like the live version better this time.. the studio version just sounds so good. Too good. And it's amazing how Billie's screaming turned out. I normally think screaming does sound a little weird in studio versions. But not this time. Brilliant! And.. the cover looks amazing!

I'm pretty sure that's Billie screaming "SHUT THE FUCK UP!", off mic, probably when he was recording his guitar part :P

Anyone got it in Australia, I can't find it. Or maybe we don't get it yet :/

America also got Oh Love way before the UK (and I think slightly ahead of the rest of the world?).

Maybe the rest of the world will get a nice surpise with a studio version of Stay The Night :P

They're the 4 videos we get with itunes deluxe version, maybe it'll be like official singles for US are 'Oh Love' and 'Let Yourself Go' and rest of the world gets 'Kill The DJ' and 'Stay The Night' (with a delayed release for vice versa - like we got Oh Love late where US got Kill The DJ late if you get what I mean)

It wouldn't be the first time they've done it, '21st Century Breakdown' and 'East Jesus Nowhere' were released in reverse order for US and the rest of the world.

Probably just very wishful thinking because I want 4 studio singles before the album release

Sounds so cool! The only think I don't like in it is the "damn" in the first sentence. But I guess it was just to make it less repetitive.

Ahh, awesome, but I like live version a little bit more than studio.

Oh my god I love it! Delicious

Ahh, it's so damn good. After a few listens I think I'm gonna be completely in love with it. As with all the new songs we seem to be getting, the verses are so much better than the repetitive choruses, but I don't mind.

I love the 'shutt the fuuuuck uppppp' shout

Fucking awesome! Can't wait to listen to this in the car with some decent bass, not through these speakers....

Jesus I need this song right now.
