Femme Gauche Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Yeah, "Last Night..." could have been a great single. Maybe they should have released it instead of "Last of the American Girls"? My personal problem with the song is just that it is the long-feared piano-ballad. Prior to the release of 21CB me and my friends were always talking about how we actually were "scared" of Green Day writing that kind of song. Maybe a little silly but yeah - that's me. Haha, I never thought that they couldn't do it. They've shown they're adept at diversifying their repertoire. At this point, there's nothing I'm going to say I am certain they couldn't do well . They've defied expectations every time... Even, it seems, when they are reigniting their old musical flames (as they do with "Let Yourself Go")

We just didn't WANT that kind of song by our favourite band. Again: a little bit silly, i know. Especially since i like many of their other - lets call it "off-style" songs. To the day "Misery" is one of my favourite songs. And i really like "Kill the DJ". Also "Nimrod" is (along with Insomniac) my favourite album by them and it's still their most deverse album (tho that may change with the trilogy).

As long as they do it well, I want to hear everything they can do. It all only makes me appreciate how skilled they are at making anything theirs. And "Last Night On Earth"... well, it seems to be a straight-up love song, but then, he talks about losing everything in the fire... And it's called "Last Night On Earth". So there's an end of the world vibe. Which makes it urgent, despite being a flat-out 'piano ballad' as you have aptly said. And all of this has nothing to do with Let Yourself Go.
Cameron. Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Idk if anyone said this, as I dont' feel like going through 10 pages. But Jason was the one screaming the parts live at the VMAs!
Ritz Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Idk if anyone said this, as I dont' feel like going through 10 threads... Jason was the one screaming the parts live at the VMAs! We know that. We can clearly see that. But thanks for pointing out.
The Forgotten Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Idk if anyone said this, as I dont' feel like going through 10 pages. But Jason was the one screaming the parts live at the VMAs! I didn't like it, I like the scratchiness BJ gives it, I don't see why Jason did it. Anyone got an explanation?
1039SweetChildren Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I didn't like it, I like the scratchiness BJ gives it, I don't see why Jason did it. Anyone got an explanation? Billie's been sick and was on vocal rest since being hospitalized this weekend. I'm guessing they didn't wanna risk messing things up as promo really kicks off soon. We're lucky BJ was even good to perform last night.

I just went back to the song - listening to it, playing it, singing it - but it's still not my "cup of tea" (<-is that idiom actually being used in english?). What i really like about the song are Mikes "oooohs" during the bridge and the lyrics. Especially the part going: "With every breath that I am worth Here on earth I'm sending all my love to you." As for the "if i lose everything in the fire"-part, i think it is 'just' another way of saying "whatever may happen, i will still love you" (which is a nice message actually). But i like how you think about the song.

We're lucky BJ was even good to perform last night. Yeah that's probably why, plus maybe they just thought it would be fun to switch things up a bit. It's no fun to keep things the same all the time. Whatever the reason Jason was AWESOME so I'm glad they did it
Clockwise Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Yeah that's probably why, plus maybe they just thought it would be fun to switch things up a bit. Jayne Billie Joe Hopkins Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Got it off iTunes yesterday. Fucking luv it. Love the lyrics especially I don't give a fuck anyway as that's my line I use a lot in life. Roll on the 25th when UNO comes out. Can't wait to get it
Webb_2011 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 How is loving American Idiot a shocker? Loads love it and most of the community say it's their favorite Green Day record. I was trying to be sarcastic by saying it's a shock haha just because most people say it's their favorite album. I guess my sarcasm didn't come off as well as I had hoped!
WhiteTim Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 So i guess saying AI is not my favorite or in top 5
Nzap Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I love the small difference in the guitar in the beginning at 0.02 (just before 0.03) and at 0.07. (goes throughout the song) It drags on and dips a fraction more there and I like those tiny things that you hear and love, but don't recognize immediately. And BTW this song Rocks!
spark in the night Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 So when is GD.com going to email me my download link to this song? I received my email this morning.
Karl Karlson Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 why did you dig out an old thread, just to post the video?
