sick Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Time for me to go to bed, i've watched the video about 30 times now i'm starting to feel that this is my favorite Green Day song ever O_o and maybe a best video too. Maybe i'm just dazed by the beauty of this vid Good night!
basketcase85 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I really like it. Love the club scenes. The only thing that bugs me is the bike bit, I feel like it should have ended after Mike kicks his foot out, after that it's just like: oh they're still riding then...
Kaddi. Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Nice video! I think the video fits the song. Billie said in some interviews that the song is about "static and noise", media controlling people's minds (from what I remember). "Onward Christian soldiers filled with jivin' mind control" For me, in the first part of the video, the band is free, free of the mind-control of the media. Riding motorcycles represents freedom (it was used in several movies before). And they're having fun! Also, they're riding in the desert... no one else is there, the people who are free of mind-control are rare. But then, they're caught by the media somehow and they ended up in that place where media can control - the dancefloor. It is crowded and apparently people are having fun there, because media says you're supposed to have fun on dancefloors. And the dancefloor could also represent a lot of pop and dance music that is on mainstream today. But the band knows better. They're unimpressed. It is like the media can't control them and make them have fun with all that's being thrown in their direction. It seems to me that even when they're playing, they aren't having fun. Billie seems to be mad while he sings, warning everybody. This is my first impression. My interpretation might be wrong, though. Sorry if I didn't express myself well I was wondering how to explain why I think the video represents the song so well and you just did it perfectly. There's nothing more to add, thank you.
Tek Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Love the song, video is better than Oh Love...but that isn't saying much. I really hope Bayer isn't the director for all of these videos we are going to get...
spark in the night Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 They really need to fire Sam Bayer. Let's send them a petition My guess is that they don't want to spend a ton of money making these videos because these songs aren't meant to have videos. (But they need videos to promote on Mtv, reach bigger audience, etc) I've watched several interviews where GD will say that these songs are not studio songs. They are live songs. They are meant to be played live. They were written and recorded in a "live" manner. So that's why these videos feel so stupid and disconnected, because putting a video to these songs doesn't make sense. And yet they have to put out some kind of video for the sake of promotion. Bottom line, I'm not going to expect awesome music videos from the Trilogy.
Karol Oliveira Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Okay, I was thinking that all the blood on the dancefloor, besides that it's there because it says on the lyrics, could represent the whole circus that media does when something tragic happens. For example, the shooting at Batman premiere, it was on TV, newspapers, websites, over and over, for days. Of course it was a tragedy but some of news information were exploring the subject until the last drop of blood. And some of people were watching the news like it was some kind of entertainment hence people dancing with blood in the video. "We are the vultures, the dirtiest kind" But I don't know if Sam Bayer could go so deep. Maybe I'm overanalysing! I was wondering how to explain why I think the video represents the song so well and you just did it perfectly. There's nothing more to add, thank you. Thank you!
Hermione Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I love it too!! I think this new 'happier' direction in their music is very nice and kind of reflects what I feel right now. During American Idiot when i became a fan I was a teeanger full of anger. Now i'm living a very happy phase in my life so i rather listen to this!! And live should not be taken so seriously!! They've had their serious(boring) music videos enough now. Like that Wake me up when september ends. Thats a good example for a very boring music vid. whiny, boring. I rather take this right here, right now. Sexy Couldn't agree more! Tre reminds me of Toad in Wind in the Willows Oh my god . Totally gonna think this every time I watch it now.
crazyeyes Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I love their expressions through the whole thing. The way Billie and Tre are just unimpressed with the rave and Mike's got this look like "WTF's wrong with you people??" I love it.
Dirntbag Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Wow I legit JUST saw this on Green Day's facebook. I like it so much better than oh love, it's really quite interesting, they even managed to incorporate the motorcycles they love so much! Really cool music video and Billie's facial expressions sorta reminded me of Gerard Way
GuitarPunk94 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 its definitely better than Oh Love i enjoyed watching the KTDJ video...but the fight between the two girls and all the blood is kinda unnecessary.. i liked the part when GD just play their song with their instruments most, and everyone with wide-opened eyes
Satan Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 i don't hate it. But it might have actually been good if they weren't on motorcycles of 17 years.
.Holly Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Their disdained/bored faces reflect how I feel after a night out listening to the same "popular" songs over and over again.
Irrlicht Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I really love the video. But did someone remark, that Jason gets absolutely ignored???? He doesn't deserve this (and it's not relevant, whether he's the fourth member or not)
Forever Now Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Loved the song and video, way better than Oh love!
Comrade Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Loved it. The motorbike scene went on 15 seconds too long. Other than that, exactly what I want from Green Day right now.
petros Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 First video since Macy's Day Parade without Billie wearing eye-liner
kellista Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 After watching the explicit version, I love this video. My favorite part is when they walk in. Billie's face is humorous, as if it says "Shit. These bitches ain't got nothing on me. On serious note, I also really like Mike's face when all the blood comes in. Its as if he just realized what pop culture has done to everyone.
Hermione Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I really love the video. But did someone remark, that Jason gets absolutely ignored???? He doesn't deserve this (and it's not relevant, whether he's the fourth member or not) He probably didn't want to be featured in the video any more than he is. We know he usually prefers not to be in the spotlight and doesn't choose to present himself as a full member of the band, so seeing him not in the spotlight here isn't surprising and isn't a slight against him. First video since Macy's Day Parade without Billie wearing eye-liner I spy a subtle hint of black around his eyes
Annie, get your gun Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 hairy nose, mr armstrong I thought that was just my impression!
petros Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I spy a subtle hint of black around his eyes Oh yes you're right As always
Juliette Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I like this song so much more now that I've heard the 'normal' version, the clean one is nowhere near as good imo.
jillyy Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 After watching it a few times I definetly like it waaaay more than the oh love video. The first time I saw it I got all dissapointed/mad when I saw that they had that club/party scene, it just seemed too similar to like, every other stupid music video out there. But then when the band came walking in looking totally bored I realized that they were making fun of all those other boring music videos full of nothing but party scenes, and I liked it a lot more-- It kind of added a new perspective on the song, like billie is just saying "come on, shoot the fucking DJ already , I'm bored out of my fucking mind!"
