Nemo. Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I don't like it. This worried me. Out of 4 songs I've heard from any of the albums I really only like one. Two are just ok and this one is ugh. i have to agree. the only song i really love is "let yourself go". oh love is okay and kill the dj is The first time I heard this song my whole brain went "what the hell?!" I just don't like it. I don't like the lyrics and I don't like the music. I don't think I'm able to tell if it's more Rap or Hip Hop, the only thing I can tell is that this is surely something Green Day have never done before, and in my opinion they should never do it again. The parts Billie sings sound boring while the parts the girl sings sound quite good, she's got a nice voice, but the lyrics.. To me this song sounds like The Network duetting with the Foxboro Hot Tubs, and this is no good. agree. but this makes me so sad. i was excited about the new material but i am so disappointed now.
solongfromthestars Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 What is it that Green Day fans don't understand about "opinions can differ"? Of course people are going to be dramatic if something hits them hard, the band means so much to them. Just ignore them if you don't like it, their opinion isn't going to change just because someone starts arguing with them. As for the song, I dunno. I don't actually hate it but I don't like it either, the lyrics are terrible but they fit with the music which is what songwriting is about. It's not a bad song, but I don't think it's my thing. It's cool that they've experimented with it though, even if a lot of fans don't like it at least they've tried something totally different.

Same. To me Let Yourself Go is the only good song we've heard so far, even if I quite like Fell for You too, but Nightlife... The acclaim it has received surprised me though. My first thought was "mmh, nobody's gonna like this song..." but then I saw many people liked it instead. At this point all I can say is I'm happy for Green Day, at least they had fun recording these albums.
WrongWayToSalvation Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 oh god Dude, go re-read my post. Look carefully for key phrases and words. In this instance, I urge you to seek out the word 'majority'. When you're done with that, come back with a five page apology written in the style of Shakespeare with a touch of Russell Peters and I'll consider forgiving you. I'm not going to apologize. The majority of rap and hip hop isn't on the radio. Radio hip hop/rap make up a very very very small sample size. That's like saying people don't care about the majority of rock.
Kitty Purry Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I dun get why ppl need to state their opinion like it's fact over and over again. If you don't like it plz go to some gd hate forum they will love you there It just soo annoying everywhere I go ppl like bashing green day (online or real life) and I felt like this was the only place I could love gd with all you guys but that's not the case anymore. I hate chris brown with a passion for example but I dont go to FAN forums just to hate on him I mean what's the point? It's not like I'm gonna change someones mind lol I feel like for some ppl its their sole mission it's pathetic really.

This is a forum, not a comment section. Forums are created for discussions, and the flip side of that are arguments, which spark from conflicting opinions.

A wacky experiment is one thing, anything else is ... Well, another unsavoury thing altogether. but this makes me so sad. i was excited about the new material but i am so disappointed now. Same here ... What is it that Green Day fans don't understand about "opinions can differ"? Of course people are going to be dramatic if something hits them hard, the band means so much to them. Oh well it's just annoying to me and I am hardly here anyway so I just walk away from it. meh can I help it that I like most of green day stuff maybe i'm tone deaf who knows I STILL LOVE IT!

We all love Green Day, but we can't like every single thing they do just because they do it. For example, I love Rock music and hate electronic music, it's quite normal for me if I don't like Nightlife, even if it's written by Green Day. P.S. Could you please avoid using abbreviations? Thank you. I agree with you one hundred percent. Especially on the 'and they should never do it again' part. A wacky experiment is one thing, anything else is ... Well, another unsavoury thing altogether. Exactly

Won't loose any sleep over it so you guys keep on arguing it's all good. BTW I don't LOVE everything green day has done wasn't a big fan of 21CB I didn't jump ship because of it oh well for me it just music it's not that serious
jess_ja Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I hated Let Yourself Go cause it sounds way too much like Maria Nightlife on the other hand is something that we have never heard before from this band and I absolutely LOVE it I think they could pull off a rap or hip hop album
Sleeper Agent. Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Welp, I haven't listened to Nightlife, so I have no real say. But, this could be a good change, it would make them more unique and less repetitive punk riffs and more new interesting stuff and realistically, some change would be great after 20 or so years in the game. So I think a rap/hip-hop song would branch their current stuff with something new, need to listen to it to judge it fully. EDIT: I listened to it, and I actually like it ALOT better than Oh Love, Kill The DJ and Let Yourself Go. I'm not kidding, it's an amazing song. The bassline is great, the lyrics are a lot better that the current singles. This song should be a single.
Rusty Hart Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Nightlife, not bad.. this sounds is fresh and unique
sick Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Very sexy song, i want to listen to it while i f*ck with my husband:) <3
Femme Gauche Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Very sexy song, i want to listen to it while i f*ck with my husband:) <3 Perfect reaction
DannyDirnt Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I'd pray for them to go rock again, but I wouldn't mind for one album. I'd buy it. And I'd hope Mike sings a lot in it, I think Mike would sound good as a rapper hahaha
Femme Gauche Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 To be fair I think there is a difference between rapping and being a rapper. I mean, technically if one raps that makes one a rapper but there is a certain mindset associated... Flight of the Conchords have a rap song or two but I wouldn't call them rappers they're folk musicians. (Well... whateverisfunniest musicians)
Tubbie Head Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Noooooo, I'm not unhappy with Nightlife, but it's certainly not the most brilliant work they've done. Plus I don't really like the style of music (that's just my opinion). A side band, yes I guess that would work, but I wouldn't probably buy it, like I didn't buy the Network album.
Ratchet Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I actually like the song a lot! Yes it's strange, new and different but Green Day are like that. They're always growing as musicians and by having a person like Lady Cobra rap like she does on that song, I think it's cool as. The thing is there is A LOT of songs that are on the charts at the moment that are getting good radio plays for having a singer/band and rapper concept to them. Personally I actually really enjoy listening to those songs because we get both of the music industries favours. And Green Day want to try that and are to have a go at the trends in the music industry and see if it suits them. And as the band has said in a lot of the recent interviews they've been doing they're, "in a good place" at the moment and they wish to show us what they've been up to. We may not all agree on some of the new music but we're all entitled to our own opinion. And on a side note, don't bash new fans. We were all there once upon a time and weren't as wise as we all are now with the trio. Don't do the "I KNOW MORE THAN YOU BECAUSE I'M A LONGER FAN THAN YOU!" crap. This community is only going to get bigger and better with the trilogy of albums coming out soon. RANT OVER!
Katarina. Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 What if.. Green Day made a country record? Dubstep? If you want to talk about Nightlife and how it sounds compared to other songs we already know we have a thread for that here
