Lady Cobra and Nightlife (feat. Lady Cobra)

Lady Cobra sounds cool. Nightlife though, t first I wasn't so sure about a non-Green Day voice singing large amounts of a song like that (Letterbomb worked really well with Kathleen Hanna though). It definitely sounded more pop-ish to me, but it's just so catchy!! I listen to it and I wish it would keep going on, instead of cutting out. I'd always been looking forward to ¡Dos!, but now I want it even more

What did they do with Billie's voice in "Nightlife"? I don't like it :S But "Lady Cobra" is great, sounds like FHT song.

Well... Lady Cobra sounds like a song that could be by any mediocre local band. They're just slamming the hell out of their instruments and Billie's singing doesn't even fit slightly to the sound of the music.

And about Nightlife: When I first heard it, I was like "What the hell is this supposed to be?!" I still hate the rap part, the rest might grow on me.

Still, I'm not impressed.

Can't stop listening to nightlife! Sure it doesn't sound like Green Day but I like other music other than green day.

I'm now absolutely convinced that DOS will be my fav album!!!

This is a good time for them to do this, because about a year ago I was a typical narrow-minded teenager and I thought rap sucked. Now I've started listening to Eminem, Ice Cube, Nas, etc, and I've broadened my horizons. If Green Day had done this in 2009, I probably would have hated it.

Sorry, but how does his singing not fit the music? It's in time, and in key, and it's aggressive as fuck, just like the music.

Lady Cobra is so fucking Foxies and very punk....love the furious rhythm and the amped-up vocals. Was grinning ear to ear as soon as I heard it. It'll play fantastic live and I do not envy the bruises those in the pit will receive when it does.

Nightlife is really surprisingly good. The first time I heard that Green Day was going to experiment with a rap style, I had two competing thoughts: (1) What the FUCK!!?; and (2) If anyone can emulate a rap style successfully even though it's way outside their core genre, it's going to be Green Day. #2's won out now. It's not "rap" in the same style that we've heard from The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, or even Run D.M.C., Eminem, or even Grandmaster Flash, but at its heart it's got minimal guitar and a spoken rather than sung lyric set over bass and percussion. In my mind, that's rap. The vocal distortion they added to BJ's barely-sung vocal is freaky-weird, but I do think it's effective in that he's using this track to apparently de-glamorize the party culture (remember, it falls at the end of iDos! as a set-up to his Amy Winehouse tribute)....that being the goal, making Billie sound like he's totally fucking wasted off his ass, while still keeping him safe in the studio, makes sense. Also, as a whole, the song's a great showcase for how excellent Mike and Tre sound together. Nicely done.

Have to say that you're probably my favorite poster on the forum. Absolutely love how you really analyze the tracks and, regardless of whether or not your analysis is even close to what the band was thinking, make me do the same and look at the songs in a deeper manner. In regards to the posts you've made about songs in the trilogy, I would suggest that anybody who thinks that Green Day has lost their depth with these albums read your posts and think a little bit more.

wooooooooooooooooooooooow. The first one is okay. The second one has to be the shittiest song I have listened to in a while.

Now I know why I have been avoiding anything Green Day related for a long time. These songs are total shit, honestly. Sounds like ear puke.

it's not bad ....

nightlife is fun

the only bad thing about nightlife is that crappy effects on billie's voice...

yeah, those are my thoughts exactly, but except for that I love all the songs they played, I'm even more excited,

I NEED THESE SONGS NOW.

As a close personal friend of Ms. Vanessa, you have no idea what you're talking about. Just because we're not part of the EVERYTHING GREEN DAY DO IS AMAZING circlejerk doesn't mean we have inferior taste in music.

Annnnd this is also why I have barely been on this forum for years. Green Day at this point IS teeny-bopper music anyway to some extent. Do you not see the immense amount of 12 year olds around these parts? I love how you are getting your panties in a bunch because someone had a different opinion than you. You must function great in the real world, sir. Carry on now. I will go listen to Death Cab, Bon Iver, Brand New, and other amazing bands while I wait for Green Day to release good music again which sadly is not looking like something likely to happen. They have so much potential to continue making amazing music, but they are not. Also, I'm almost 19. Technically, I am an adult and obviously know how to carry on a civil conversation much more adequately than you. Now, go jerk off to Green Day and I will carry on with my life :)

Don't believe I ever said inferior taste in music...good job making up a story though. All I said is that when you come in here saying something to the extent of, "this is shit and sucks blah blah blah" without giving ANY reason why you feel that way, then you deserve to be shit on (figuratively of course...unless you're into the literal thing too). The proper way for "Ms. Venessa" to say something in a forum where decent discussion actually takes place would have been to say something like, "I think all these songs suck because..." By saying that, she would absolve herself from any notion that she is just a fucking idiot who can't logically put her thoughts into words.

I didn't know I needed to write an essay on my brief opinion that I don't like these songs, but if you must know, I think these songs are horse shit because Billie Joe is a brilliant musician, and he is not using that ability that he has. He is a great guitar player, and he rarely uses his skills, but here he is showcasing them even less than usual. The music seems so soul-less and boring. It sounds like they aren't trying anymore. The lyrics don't sound like they hold the weight that a lot of the old lyrics did. I also do not enjoy the way that Billie's voice sounds. All the new songs I've heard just seem so dull. Nothing in any of these songs intrigues me. The sound of the second song in this thread is simply unpleasant to my ears and that's that.

Is my justification of why I don't like the sounds of these songs good enough for you? I don't need to justify my musical tastes to some random on the internet, but I have nothing better to do currently. I just flat out don't like the sounds, just like I don't like Nickelback or Creed. They sound like shit to me. It's not my thing.

Also, it's quite the low-blow to insult my intelligence on the internet simply because my musical preferences differ than yours. I'm not the smartest person in the world by any means, but I happen to take pride in not being a dumb ass. I'm going to a school considered a public ivy. Just because I think new Green Day music is shit has no affect on my stupidity or intelligence. Sorry, brah.

I actually like this song! It takes me back to those indulgent naughty party days. hee

You have every right to an opinion on any music you wish. That is where you are coming from it is who you are and nobody can change that about you. Nor should you change for anyone else. That is the great thing about this country we live in, and this forum we can join. :D

Just a little reminder so everyone can iron out their magic drawers. Just like paintings, poems, photography, and sculptures. Music is a form of art. It is completely subjective. Now I am sure you know what the word subjective means you aren't stupid. But as one goes through life, perception becomes shaped depending on their environment (ups and downs of life). Don't forget the band members are in their 40s and you are 18. They probably have a different outlook than you. For crying out loud Billie wrote some songs on Meth when he was young.............honey if you really understood what it means go through some hellacious times, write music, and have to face the world this way, maybe you might have an appreciation for their artistry. It's okay if you don't like what they put out now, but when you use negative words to describe Green Day on a forum like this..............................you might want to get ready for some heat.

Just a little tid bit of information, sorry to burst your bubble, but I know this individual personally and this person does function well in this wonderful world. And has met some incredible fucking people ahem, ahem, I wont say because it is not my place to name drop, but just some FYI putting out negative shit................you will get back negative shit. Put positive you get positive back. Maybe instead it would be good to respect where everyone comes from including bands like Green Day

You could say "I don't like the new stuff" or you could say "Green Day is shit. This stuff is like ear puke, I know why I avoided them"

Don't be surprised which one is going to get a vitriolic reaction.

You have got to be the most immature 26 year old ever.

Yea i hafta agree...this forum can get really ridiculous and annoying...which is why I rarely come here and when I do I only read...cuz everyone is usually really rude and disrespectful of other people's opinions. At the same time though, the idiot that started all this could have stated her opinions in a much less adverserial manner."Green Day is puke shit vs. I'm not a fan of the new stuff..." obviously one will get a reasonable reaction and the other will not.

Pukeshit is not even a clever fake word...

Seriously though, why do people keep saying teenybopper? What is this 1975? :P
