The Pedestrian Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 After listening to this I can’t help but wonder why everyone slags off Carpe Diem. It sounds awesome! Like, really really awesome. And BJ’s voice is great on it and the lyrics are really good. My favourite snippet was Fell For You though. WOW. That should so be a single...
Heather. Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 When Billie did his whole "SORRY IM SHOUTING I HAVE VOICE MODULATION" thing he did the same tone as his "That was good explaining, good explaining Bill Schneider!" I always get a kick out of that voice
WestboundSign! Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I enjoyed listening to a lot of songs we got to hear there. "Fell For You" sounded amazing.. I'm really impressed by the way it sounds. Really nice and interesting interview
1039SweetChildren Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 My only complaint with "Carpe Diem" is that Billie Joe's vocals seem to lack a certain urgency (especially the way he delivers the repeated "celebrate" hook in a pretty monotone manner), but I'll adjust to that when I hear the full thing.
Reberebel96 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 This interview was absolutely amazing. At first I didn't want to listen to the new songs, but when they started playing them I was like "fuck it this is Green Day right now and they want us to listen to this great great songs" And after this, my expectations of the trilogy got so much higher than they were. I can't wait anymore, I just want the three albums now.
Vic_Rattlehead Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 They seem finished, what are they waiting for? I would buy the shit out the trilogy if they released it right now.
Femme Gauche Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Distribution, vic... distribution. they finished them awhile back. Billie Joe even posted a tweet stating as much. But they have to have a planned date for them to be distributed and released, en masse.
Hidingfromcrazies Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I actually like this song, its interesting. It reminds me of my naught party days!!!!
Dalya Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Fell for You is amazing, and it becomes my favorite song so far! Carpe Diem is better than I have expected. I think I will be blown away after hearing Rusty James!
Raven93 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Does anyone think that nightlife is a one off song just to give some recognition to lady cobra to the public ?
Heather. Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Does anyone think that nightlife is a one off song just to give some recognition to lady cobra to the public ? I mean, you can't deny these guys are trying to plug and name-drop her/MKOTC as often as possible, because they're friends and they want her and her band to get some press. I don't think that's the reason they collaborated though. They wouldn't have done it if they weren't fans of Lady Cobra. Now they're trying to help her out by maybe hyping the song more than others even if they have other better songs. It's mostly a sign of selflessness and further proof that they don't care what people think.
WrongWayToSalvation Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Does anyone think that nightlife is a one off song just to give some recognition to lady cobra to the public ? Not really...I think it's more like Green Day wanted to do something different. And something to piss off and alienate a lot of people. Green Day loves rap, Tre even said Straight Out of Compton by NWA is one of his favorite albums. People need to keep an open mind when it comes to music, and be willing to accept experimentation, no matter how far away it is from a band's normal sound.

And definitely one that could piss off a lot of fans, but... I mean, if they aren't going to piss someone off with their records, they're not doing it right... No?
WrongWayToSalvation Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Yeah, it's such a strange concept! And definitely one that could piss off a lot of fans, but... Femme Gauche Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 No, but when you're creating something new, you gotta do what is right for you, regardless of what other people think of it. What's right for them happens to also be right for millions of other people, though, so...

That's what I meant, when it comes to actually making the music, you shouldn't have to worry about fan reactions. Great success should be a surprise, not a given.

*withoutadoubt* Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Thanks to whoever recorded this and uploaded - didn't read the whole thread - I didn't get a chance to listen, and I keep reading what a great interview it is. Gonna listen now - can't wait!! I do agree that the distortion is a little excessive on Nightlife, but I think in context of the album, it's all gonna make sense. It seems like things are gonna get dirtier and dirtier as the "party" starts to make you go crazy until we reach a crescendo and the aftermath comes (with "Amy"). I keep thinking that about a lot of these songs - that the individual songs will all make more sense when each is in is respected place in order. It's difficult to judge something that's 'out of context' so to speak. Regardless of all that - Nightlife is different, but I love just that about it.

As much as this is a clear, fierce departure from the concept album 'era', they still seem to be having a clear unity and sort of "fit" for the way the songs interact with one another. They're very good at creating album, so I am sure that whatever sounds strange now, will likely make more sense in context.

Someone said here recently that most of their albums seem to have some sort of theme, even tho they aren't 'concept' albums, and if you think about that for most of the albums it makes sense. I think for UDT, it's gonna be the same - all will flow and make more sense in time.
Brandon R. Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 If those two fucks had come through on an American radio station, the station would've been fined a shitload of money by the FCC.

If those two fucks had come through on an American radio station, the station would've been fined a shitload of money by the FCC. Yeah, most likely. Thing is, the radio station is actually a government-owned station... so, ironic, right?
DannyDirnt Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Is this where they are going to play Dookie?
Ritz Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Is this where they are going to play Dookie? Its a rumor that they'll play Dookie at Reading.
