Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I like that they put effects on his voice for some songs, makes listening to an entire album more enjoyable when stuff's done differently from song-to-song. But that doesn't hide that Carpe Diem is really poor songwriting. At least with the stuff on 21st Century Breakdown, they were reaching for something, even when they missed the mark on some of it.
WrongWayToSalvation Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Also, is it just me or does it sound like he says "bum threat" instead of "bomb threat"?
spark in the night Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 You can tell they are really happy with their albums. They just seem so much more excited, active, goofy, talkative, silly, crazy, and funny. During AI and 21CB they seemed so serious and awkward during interviews. Now they are really hilarious and into the interviews and I am so happy they keep talking about instagram!!
amy_runs Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 THE SONGS ARE SO GOOD GREEN DAY IS SO FUNNY I AOHDSLJSHKHL<DHK
Mar Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Zane, calm yourself. I didn't hear shit. (Or "fuck.")
Bastard of 1967 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Loved that "Awwwwww.....OH BABY BABY IT'S FooooOOOOOOKAYYY!!"

What's so poor about the lyrics? I think they're pretty good, certainlly better than songs like Let Yourself Go or Troublemaker.
Femme Gauche Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I dunno, everyone is so down on all the lyrics. I still love them. Maybe that makes me easily pleased... but I aesthetically love the way he strings together words.

Yeah those two are pretty average as well, but the chorus of Carpe Diem and the actual phrase itself is horribly cliched and over used. If the song was called YOLO and he shouted that in the chorus at least it would be ironically funny.

I don't mind the chorus, and the phrase is not nearly as annoying as YOLO or any other phrase for that matter. I think this is just gonna boil down to opinions but the lyrics aren't that weak, especially when we have some weak lyrics.
**nobodylikesyou** Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 listening to show now, havent gotten to the songs yet....... looking forward to it but kinda scared too
Carol Ahmed Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Guys, I made a video and put all the songs together (only the songs). I couldn't get fuck time tho, but all the others are here! Hope you like it: http://t.co/0wlYjDh0
Femme Gauche Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 That would be unironically horrible. Yes. Yes, it would. UGH. No, carpe diem is cliched, but... in a way that works with his typical lyrics. He uses cliches, yes. But generally, they work well.

Thanks for giving words to my thoughts. the first thing I do after waking up is listening to the whole interview again. cant believe it happened last night ! It was a proud Green Day moment and the most awesome one for me !
Lindsay Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I really, really loved Fell For You. Carpe Diem surprised me with how good it was and Nuclear Family was attention grabbing too. The snippet of Stray Heart near the beginning sounded awesome as well. I am SO much more excited for these albums than I was before, can't wait for Uno! Also so jealous of everyone who'll get to see Dookie played in it's entirety, if it even happens that is.
TaylorKlinke Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Wow! That interview was great! I've been feeling so impatient and kind of fed up lately with the wait and leaks and just everything, but that interview got me really excited for the trilogy all over again
QueenOfSuburbia Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 This whole interview is the reason why I love them.
Burnout98 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 This interview looks exciting, but I'm not going to listen to it. 7 new songs? I've already listened to Troublemaker and 99 Revolutions, I don't wan't to spoil anymore
Bastard of 1967 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 NightLife is weird but rad ! The distortion filter they put on BJ's vocals seems a bit *too* strong to me at this point, but I'm nitpicking. The song's fucking awesome. Green Day is showcasing how good their rhythm section really is, and Lady Cobra's soft, sexy rap is the icing on the cake. I'm actually surprised it turned out so well - there was definitely a part of me thinking "DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!" when I first heard the song was tipping in an R&B street music direction.

Its like the thing that are played at clubs nowadays.
Femme Gauche Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I was just hoping that enough of their California punk background would keep it fairly old school and respectable.
1039SweetChildren Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I do agree that the distortion is a little excessive on Nightlife, but I think in context of the album, it's all gonna make sense. It seems like things are gonna get dirtier and dirtier as the "party" starts to make you go crazy until we reach a crescendo and the aftermath comes (with "Amy").
Femme Gauche Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I actually really enjoyed the effect of the distortion in Nightlife. Yes, it is a little more... mainstream sounding? Just the hwole vibe, but... it is definitely Green Day too, and it's actually really sexy.
