*Jade_Green_Day* Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 It's all getting very hostile in here. It's been happening a lot lately actually Agree. I'd been on hiatus, and it's changed... just a tad! Everyone's just angsty for the new album! But yes, I agree, a leak isn't that fair on the band.
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 They're already practically millionaires, AND they said in interviews that sales don't matter to them. True, but Green Day aren't the only ones who earn money from the album sales. Only like 20% of the profits goes to them (and they do share that between the 3 of them). The album profits also have to pay for everyone else who worked on the albums (producers, engineers, various people at the record company, etc), and some is used to pay off the advanced money the label spent on promotion. The money from the albums pays a lot of people, not just Green Day, and they aren't all as wealthy as the band they work for. So album sales matter for a lot more people than just the artist whose name is on the cover.
Femme Gauche Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I don't want any more new stuff to come out before the album, cause I love that magic moment of "OMGALBUMDAYALBUMDAY" after all the anticipation and then... *in a haze of Green Day love for weeks* That's jsut me, though. But leaks... honestly, I don't htink enough people who aren't Green Day fans care enough to download leaks that would otherwise be buying the albums, but... while it is often inevitable, it's still silly to think "I hope it leaks". I mean, if you're going ot hear it anyway, what's the point? Oh, you heard it a week earlier? Doesn't make sense... I'm not too jealous of the press, they're the press... All I'm wondering about is seeing reviews and such!

Femme Gauche Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Meh, it is an ordinary, expected thing, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a betrayal of trust. :/. It's like paparazzi. So outside of the realm of what is reasonable to expect.

TheJedi Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 If it weren't for us you wouldn't even have seen the photos, and the full Oh Love video. After already having everything saved on your computer it's pretty easy to point fingers. But lets stop worrying about sources and all this stupidity, the important thing is making content accessible to the fans! Thanks! I almost don't post in this forum, and will continue not to because of all the hypocrites. wow, you're an asshole. do you even care about this band?
green day drunkbunny Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Personally I generally buy an album for collections sake, I like to have the booklets and the CDs even if I already got a torrent of it. The only time I wont do this is when a CD isnt widely available to buy here but a torrent is worldwide. In the case of Green Day I have everything so far and you can buy them everywhere, so while I'm probably going to download the music on isohunt I'll still be buying the albums. Not because I feel guilty but because I see them as separate things.
SetOnOverdrive Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 He has a legit point. If it leaks, it will likely hurt the band. The record label is spending a lot of money in promoting and trying to make this weird idea of a trilogy a success. Anyone in the press leaking it out would be a dick move. I really doubt theyre getting copies of the trilogy, probably just listening. If it leaks early i'm gonna download it. I've already paid my money for all 3 albums. The way I see it, if it makes its way online early I deserve it.
Fuzz Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 If it leaks early i'm gonna download it. I've already paid my money for all 3 albums. The way I see it, if it makes its way online early I deserve it. So will I. My argument isn't that members of GDC getting it will somehow hurt. It's the casual fan who isn't interested in paying for it where it becomes a problem.
TheJedi Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 im not gonna download any albums before the release.. i dont think it's nice to the band. they're working so hard, and made THREE albums. not many bands does that so we're pretty lucky. i want many people to buy them, so i really hope they wont leak.
lizziebix Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I don't understand what this conversation has to do with the Press Party.
Fuzz Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I don't understand what this conversation has to do with the Press Party. People were wondering if press had gotten a copy of the trilogy, then we started talking about leaks.
lizziebix Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 People were wondering if press had gotten a copy of the trilogy, then we started talking about leaks. Un huh. I undertood the trail of the conversation, just not why it continued in the Press Party thread.
iRun Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 So will I. My argument isn't that members of GDC getting it will somehow hurt. It's the casual fan who isn't interested in paying for it where it becomes a problem. I could actually see GD leaking it themselves.
SetOnOverdrive Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 So will I. My argument isn't that members of GDC getting it will somehow hurt. It's the casual fan who isn't interested in paying for it where it becomes a problem. Yeah of course. That's a completely different argument altogether. What I would say though are alot of those people aren't going to fill out arenas or stadiums on the tour either. They aren't necessarily Green Day fans, they are just listeners. In my opinion the making of 3 albums is just a guaranteed "get rich quick scheme". I would argue that the cost to create and promote 1 album consisting of 10 to 12 track would be very similar to the cost of doing a triple album with 30 tracks. Alot of bands would usually record substantially more tracks than would go on an album and work with their label to choose the best ones anyway. So the way I see it they are cashing in because they have a bunch of awesome tracks. As a fan i'm happy to pay the £55 or so for the box set. I know i'm getting a quality product. I could actually see GD leaking it themselves. I always had the feeling they leaked the early version of 21st Century Breakdown just to get fan feedback.
pisquano Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 They are millionaires, not practically millionaires. No, it wouldn't personally hurt them. They're set for life financially. But if record sales for two albums in a row are pretty bad (21 cb didn't sell well) that begins to have an affect with what kind of risks their record label are willing to let them take and get away with. If the whole world thought like you, then yes, no problem. You're wrong when you say 21st Century Breakdown didn't sell well. It didn't have the success of American Idiot, but went platinum in the US and sold more than other highly anticipated albums and successes (The Resistance, for example). Still, if you make a list of Warner's artists you'll find out that Green Day is in the top three in terms of sales for sure. However, I'm pretty sure none of the three albums will reach 21st CB's sales, Uno! certainly not. We'll see the others.
*Jade_Green_Day* Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 However, I'm pretty sure none of the three albums will reach 21st CB's sales, Uno! certainly not. We'll see the others. I would think it would be the other way around. Uno! maybe having the most sales, with a downward trend, as from my knwoledge, that's what normally happens. Who knows. All I know is that I will have all 3.

Fuzz Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I always had the feeling they leaked the early version of 21st Century Breakdown just to get fan feedback. If you got the emails/phone calls I got when we posted about the leak, you wouldn't think that.
Femme Gauche Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Yeah I would imagine it would be Uno that would get the most sales, just because it is the first new thing... but it will be actually really interesting to see how they sell individually.
SetOnOverdrive Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 If you got the emails/phone calls I got when we posted about the leak, you wouldn't think that. Haha. Fair enough!
Ben773 Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I'd be pretty pissed if an unfinished/unpolished song leaked that I wrote.
Femme Gauche Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Yeah, that's how I felt when I heard about the 21CB (song) leak. .
