1039SweetChildren Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Fell For You isn't from the Tiki Bar numb nuts. I said 3-4 B-sides on EACH single. That's around 15-20 B-sides/outtakes all together. That would be extremely unrealistic.
justcause Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I really don't have a problem with simple choruses - it works with the freed-up vibe of these songs. There's an honesty and immediacy to putting a song out there with its original energy completely intact that I really value, and it's showing up on these songs. Lol, the chorus for 'Alligator' is 'ya alligator' repeated over and over, and people fucking loved it - guess it's to do with the big Green Day/Foxboro divide.
WrongWayToSalvation Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 That would be extremely unrealistic. How so?
Heather. Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 For me even if the chorus isn't repetitive, a lot of the choruses have been less musically interesting than the rest of the song. Like Nuclear Family, which is one of my favorite tracks we've heard... the chorus isn't a repeated line, but it's musically less interesting than the rest of the song. IMO Stray Heart is similar, I prefer the verses. I judge things more based on how they sound than the repeating---I can get over Let Yourself Go x12 because it sounds pretty good. The Kill the DJ chorus doesn't sound quite as swanky as it should.
1039SweetChildren Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 How so? Why would they throw 20 songs away as b-sides that a very limited audience will hear? Look at the past eras: we've gotten only a handful of bonus tracks from each record. You don't go through the process of recording over an album's worth of tracks to use them as bonus tracks.
That Dude Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I agree that we should wait til the albums comes out to judge the songs. I do hear the repetitve lines in all the songs I've heard ,but we've only got official versions of Oh Love and Kill the DJ in their entiretiy. The other songs that we've heard live or snippets of may be a completly different animal on the album. Saying that, I am a little worried about the repetition of lyrics over and over. But hey, they are trying something new. Maybe on the album after the trilogy they will do some other kind of writing style, just to keep it fresh. I think no matter what kind of music these guys put out, it's awesome. They could do a rap/country album and I think they would find a way to make it work.
GuitarPunk94 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 haha..hit dat golden heartgrenade with my first bird/try ^^ troublemaker is awesome..just listened to it one time, so it will probably catch me when i hear it when i got the album..dont want to spoil myself too much right now ^^ and ya..the new songs got some weird choruses :/ and because of this my friends have more negative attitudes to GD than before

Alright, I'm gonna write a song right now. It's called Frankelberry. Oh Josie, why are you such a bitch? Why can't you make a brew like this? Considering you're an ugly ass witch That has stupid piercings on each nip Oh, I love me some Frankelberry Oh, I love me some Frankelberry Oh, I love me some Frankelberry Oh, I love me some Frankelberry Oh Josie, your sister is cuter Her best friend isn't a cucumber That doesn't rhyme, but I don't give a shit Pass me that crack pipe, I need one more hit Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week, because I don't have an outside life! Why would they throw 20 songs away as b-sides that a very limited audience will hear? Pixus Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Sounds a lot like a mixture of Nimrod and Foxboro Hot Tubs. And I can hear a little bit of Warning too. This is like, wow I'm searching for all those Green Day tunes in my head and then a wave of nostalgia is hitting me. I don't know what else to say. I'm so happy right now.
Comic Sans Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I read "sniffing glue" and there's the Network song stuck in my head again. For me it's Walking Contadiction (reheb rejects still sniffing glue)
drugstore hooligan Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I like it. I defo hear the nimrod/foxboro vibe. I also agree on the repetitive choruses too. But im liking everything ive heard upto now. Billies lazy song writing is better than any shit they play on the radio anyway lol. there's plenty more songs to suprise us yet. I'm sure there will be lyrical masterpieces yet.
Pixus Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Sounds like a mixture of Alligator by FBHT, Prosthetic Head, All The Time and Warning. Or.. I don't know
Ryan Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Repetitive chorus does not equal boring, lazy songwriting. Some of you need to get that through your heads. I've been a fan since '94 and I think that this is some of the best music they've ever written. It's catchier than anything else they've done in the past. I find myself walking around singing the choruses from Uno more than any or their other material. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going for a more traditional Rock & Roll sound and a pure, catchy vibe. So the chorus lyrics repeat...big fucking deal. The lyrics in the verses are fucking awesome. The choruses are simple as fuck, but catchy as all hell. And these songs all have kickass guitar solos. If this was the direction that Green Day went from here on out, I would be MORE than happy.

So, out of the hundreds of artists/bands that get played on the radio, Green Day is easily ranked #1? *sigh* Ignorant people...
lizziebix Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I just can't be as critical as most of you. I really liked it. So Foxie sounding. Played it a couple more times just so I could dance in my den to it.
petros Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I said 3-4 B-sides on EACH single. That's around 15-20 B-sides/outtakes all together. And we should be thankful? Thankful that they could possibly be ripping us off by having us buy 3 albums filled with a lot of forgettable tracks rather than one album filled with amazing tracks? I don't have an iPod, so I'll have to buy each album. Dude just download a torrent or something of you don't wanna feel ripped off no need to bitch about that too. Although I'm starting to feel a bit sick of all those repetitive choruses.

WhatsUpLucas Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Foxboro-ish. It also reminds me a little of Horseshoes and Handgrenades. Guitar is awesome.
WrongWayToSalvation Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Hey, I stand out more than the generic "OMG! When I heard this song I cried!" Green Day fan.
Ryan Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Nice generalization there. So, out of the hundreds of artists/bands that get played on the radio, Green Day is easily ranked #1? *sigh* Ignorant people... In short...yes. In terms of longevity, catchiness of songs, live performance, lyrical content, and a few other categories, imo there is nobody out there that can hold a candle to Green Day. That is, of course, my opinion. But it's also an opinion that can be easily backed up. It's not ignorance if there is thought put into it.
petros Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Hey, I stand out more than the generic "OMG! When I heard this song I cried!" Green Day fan. Well some people may feel like that why is this bad?Everyone can hear and judge the music and some people like all the songs don't feel smarter than them. It's great to judge a song you don't like(although all YOU do is bitch about everything) but don't act like a smart-ass.

That is, of course, my opinion. But it's also an opinion that can be easily backed up. It's not ignorance if there is thought put into it. But that doesn't mean your opinion is fact. Longevity I'll give you that one fact, but a lot of people may not like their songs, and if they don't like their songs they might not get into their performance. And Green Day is far from being the best lyricists on Radio. Now THAT'S an ignorant statement. They write decent lyrics. Some of their songs don't even fit into that standard. That's such a fanboy thing to say. And what are the few other categories? Looks? That's opinionated. Critical reception? They've received pretty good critical reception, nothing mind blowing like artists such as Outkast, The Black Keys, and Kayne West. Respect? Green Day is one of the hated bands in the world. Go to almost any comment section on the Internet that's NOT a Green Day fan site and about 95% of the posts will be hate filled, with maybe just a few defending the band.
