He is drawing attention to Billie's stye, since incredibly pedestrian eye complaints are now the go-to subject for Green Day fans everywhere. Oh Instagram, what horrors have you wrought?

 Sorry, it's just that for about two week after the first picture of it surfaced, the instagram thread was full of concerned well-wishers making plans to send him care packages. Just wanted to make sure it didn't start up again

Okay so wait what is it about? I've not followed the instagram thing so idk but people have seriously been freaking out about a bump on his eyelid? I have bumps everywhere. Everyone has bumps everywhere. Bumps happen.

Emma introduced them and the performance was amazing! It was perfect :D

Music isn't popular on that channel, period.

It's not just MTV though. The kind of music that has been popular for some time now is all pre-packaged, processed, and has an expiration date that never seems to come.

YUP!

Can someone provide a working youtube link?

With the low-ish viewership, LYG didn't as huge of a push on iTunes as it could have but it's still sitting comfortably at #81 after peaking in the 60's the day after the show. Oh Love also got a good boost and is at 140 as opposed to the 170-180 range earlier this week.

Is there download link for the performance? :)

I'm a bit late, but HOLY SHIT, what a performance!! Perfect song to rock out to, LOVED that they were on the floor instead of the stage, LOVED even more that Billie wanted the crowd to rush in, and amazing that they all were able to continue playing the song with everyone surrounding them. Tre had a few concerned looks on his face, I think, lol, but kept playing without missing a beat. I did hear the guitar stop a time or two, and although I lost sight of Billie Joe, he did an amazing job of belting that song out. Also have to give a shout out to Jason, who I am appreciating more and more.

All in all, it was an epic performance - best of the night, hands down. Ok, I am biased a bit, but really - were there any better performances than that one??

Watched it today. They had a blast. Loved it when billie joe said who wants to be on tv and then got mobbed by all the green day fans. Billie joe said they were going to cause some chaos and they did in true crazy green day style. Bloody brilliant :) :) :)

Being a follower of the Instagram thread I did not see that o_O.

He talked about his stye in one of the magazine interviews. Well, I say "talked about". He mentioned it...

Can anyone say that (shows like this) this is how they stay young? I mean, seriously... All that energy. Yes, they age. But damn... They sure do have a lot of energy.

Does anyone know how long into the VMAs Green days performance was? Just wondering how much shit I have to sit through before I get to the good bit! :)

Really enjoyed the performance, they were great. And I thought Jason's t-shirt was awesome, good to see Jeff too. :D

I fast-forwarded through most of the rest of the show, because MTV generally annoys me, but from what I could tell I think Kevin Hart did quite a good job at presenting. At least he was mildly amusing compared to Russell Brand.

Jsyk, Billie had that thing on his eyelid at Reading...in fact my grandma had one of those once, it went after a while. In fact, why the hell am I even talking about it?

lol I woke up and started listening to Let Yourself Go studio version on my phone and just when I turned on the TV Green Day appeared performing LYG at the VMAs LOL it was such a great coincidence. What I didn't like about the performance is when that fan starts singing in Mike's mic, he sounds horrible and fucked up the chorus lol

And they said that it was him that sounded very high pitched in the backing for STN?

Mike and Jeff normally support Billie with backing vocals. The problem here with Billie's transforming the floor where they were playing into a mosh pit/mob scene (take your pick!) was that he basically sawed off the branch he was sitting on -- he could barely sing in the crowd rush he created! Mike and Jeff adapted quickly and at least helped carry the damn tune 'til Billie could come up for air again. Yes, it had all the grace and finesse of an elephant practicing ballet, but it got the job done.

My friends and I hadn't heard the studio version of LYG yet since we went to wait in line early and when Billie said "I don't give a damn anyway" we thought he was just trying to censor himself a little better then gave up when he started saying fuck. We didn't know that's how the song actually goes! I wonder why they tweaked the lyrics..

Yes...Jeff Matika and Jason Freese both have quite a high range which has helped to completely transform Green Day's back-up harmonies over the past few years :-)
