Alan86 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 There are alot of people saying the video idea doesn't represent the song well. I think this idea does represent oh love. To me Oh Love can be about a relationship that isn't going well. It can be about a toxic relationship that has ended and about moving on from it. I think this is emphasized by Billie repeating at the end of the song "tonight my heart's on the loose". He is ready for something/someone new, even if it is a cheap meaningless one night stand. Hence bring in the scantily clad girls and a sex party this song leads us on to DOS too which has been described as the party.
dooplunk Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 "Talk myself out of feeling / Talk my way out of control / Talk myself out of falling in love / falling in love with you", I would think that the video would be conveying the temptation, do you think that Green Day should morally be falling in love or getting with these back stage groupies, no, that's the idea of the video. Knowing it might be wrong, but it's here and i'm giving in. This isn't a typical love song like Last Night on Earth. From what I can tell, it seems like a fitting video.
WestboundSign! Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I somehow got a little more used to the idea and the concept of this video now. Let's see how it turns out to be, I'll just wait for wednesday. I at least got a bit curious!
Hermione Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I'm curious too! It's been interesting enough hearing people's thoughts on it just from a little clip. Should be very interesting to see what it's like and hear everyone's interpretations and opinions on it. Glad they're doing something that's getting people interested!
BringMoreKnives Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Ugh, from what I've seen so far, the concept for the video does not seem to go with the song, in my opinion. I want to hit Sam Bayer over the head with a frying pan. But I guess I'll wait and see... I sincerely hope that isn't indicative of what actually happens backstage at GD shows. I thought they all sat around playing ping-pong and drinking PBR
Pieces of Truth Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 What do you mean with "the direction they're going"? Like some mentioned: They were always kinda against such a kind of video. So... why do they start with it and then with a song that, imo, doesn't fit that well to the theme? This is my interpretation. Or maybe I just expressed my post a little wrong. Dont know. Let's just wait and see till Wed. I still have the hope it's gonna be good and not just about Girls 'showing' their boobs and shaking their asses in front of the camera
drugstore hooligan Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I don't share the same point of view as some of you. I like boobs and i like Green Day so this video might be full of epic winning haha. The trilogy is supposed to be fun and i think the video represents that.
Fuzz Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I sincerely hope that isn't indicative of what actually happens backstage at GD shows. Everyone knows Green Day hangs out with groupies and has sex backstage while getting drunk and doing drugs. Rock and roll, baby! As for the video, not excited of what I've seen. Will withhold all criticism until I've seen it. The first thing I thought about with the clips shown was this quote from Billie Joe [Our 'Waiting' video] was totally a failure. [MTV] doesn't show any videos anymore. If we had a booty video - if we had, like, McG, with girls shaking their ass in the video -- it would probably get played.

As for the video, not excited of what I've seen. Will withhold all criticism until I've seen it. The first thing I thought about with the clips shown was this quote from Billie Joe THAT is exactly what i thought of too. I don't get it... if they really are making that kind of video im actually really dissappointed
Malleus Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I can't make the connection between those girls and typical booty videos that Green Day has talked about. Did we even see an ass in the clip? If we did, I must've missed it. Those types of videos with people grippin' their bling and bitches shaking their things are pretty different from the clip of the girls who look really alternative and covered in stockings and shit. I don't know, I just don't get how people can associate the clips we've had with a typical "oh look here be girls" music video. But at the end of the day everybody has to judge it on their own and we haven't seen it yet so oh well, we'll see what happens.
Agija Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 After seeing the little clip, I'm not so excited about the video anymore. I hope my thoughts about it will change when I see the whole thing, though. At least the guys looked awesome, haha.
DannyDirnt Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 To be honest I don't care about how the video looks. In the end, it's not like I'm gonna watch the music video more than a few times if I liked it. It's still nice to see Green Day and hot girls in the same video. About the whole "why are they doing this" thing, I read they wanted to do a video with naked girls because only those get to be played on MTV nowadays.
justcause Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 The first thing I thought about with the clips shown was this quote from Billie Joe I saw 'Terminator Salvation' on tv recently, and I thought it was fucking great.

As for the video, not excited of what I've seen. Will withhold all criticism until I've seen it. The first thing I thought about with the clips shown was this quote from Billie Joe To me a "booty video" is a video with no artistic merit where the women are there purely to titillate the viewer and sell the video. If the sexiness/nudity is there for a reason and actually helps convey or add to the meaning of the song I don't believe the booty video label applies. For example there's women with their arses out in the Holiday video, but no one has a problem with that because it fits with the video and helps convey the meaning of the song. We won't know what the reason for the raunchiness in this video is until we see it but given the lyrics of the song I can't imagine it's just for the sake of it.
Amydc Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 It doesn't surprise me at all, they said it was very foxboroish and that's what rock'n'roll is all about. WMUWSE music video there's nothing to do with the song neither, that's why I don't like Sam Bayer work that much, he seems to ignore the meaning of the songs. And c'mon guys, Billie Joe contradicting himself is old hat to us, things have changed. Anyway, I love Green Day, I love naked women and I'm going to love this.
momoluvGD Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I don't have time to read this, but I don't think the video looks all that bad!
ClaireLouise Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I honestly don't think that it will be all that bad! I think they're just making fun of that groupie-rockstar stereotype, and why shouldn't they? It's only acting, actors do sex scenes in films, it's all part of their jobs, just like making a good music video is for Green Day.
Heather. Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 There is a slight chance that this could be done in a somewhat intellectually ironic way, especially if we are correct in thinking one of the lines in Kill the DJ is "You never protest the dirtiest kind..." and that song is about pop culture/shitty music.... and this would be the dirty stuff that no one seems to be protesting. So if they end up murdering these scantily clad women in the Kill the DJ video, or kicking them out of the backstage area and holding up their favorite vinyl records, that'd be pretty great. I don't think Sam Bayer is as smart as me though /intellectual fantasy over.

I think they may be a message like "Tonight I don't need to be waiting for you, I have all these girls ready for action!"
Android Jesus Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 The girls who participated on the video, are really pretty Can't wait to watch it!
.................... Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I think the song sounds so much better with the smoking girls-thing than with the disgusting green backround It's gonna be awesome!
solongfromthestars Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I don't think the message in the video necessarily has to relate strictly to the song, or tell you anything specific about any deeper meanings of the song. I get the impression it just takes the sexual element and it might be done really well yet, we'll just have to wait and see. The bits with the band look really cool anyway, I think I'll like those even if the rest isn't really my thing.
Heather. Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Thanks to this discussion all the ads on GDC have changed from Jesus-oriented to porn-recruitment. Is there no middle ground?
Cre Tool. Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Wow, this might be the most intense thread ever So the video certainly isn't like Walking Contradiction which we were all hoping for, but I don't think it'll be another Jesus of Suburbia either. I mean Tre was just looking at the girl's body right? I don't think it'll be THAT sick. I hope I am not proven wrong.
sampy Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Honestly I don't get what people were expecting from this video? We knew that there gonna be female actors. We knew somehow what's the story behind this song. I really can't see music video like Walking Contradiction fitting with this song. And it seemed like people were excited when Billie tweeted that there's going to be R rated version too, but when people saw the clip, they disappointed. Why? I wasn't expecting that video shows those girls eating ice cream while the band plays on the background. I can say that this clip didn't surprise me at all, really. I think this video is going to fit really well with this era and this song.
