I wasn't able to watch the interview but I did see the video and my whole family sat and actually watched it with me. I never have anything negative to say but, other than seeing the guys perform, I couldn't get into the video. There were a few amusing parts though.

Its ROCK N ROLL! ITS FUN! EXITING! DANGEROUS! SEXY! and full of everything from good to bad, evil, and completely disgusting! This is a small look at a Rock N Roll life style, people don't like it don't watch it or get involved in the Rock N Roll life style. Rock N Roll is meant to be controversial, if it wasn't then their would be no Rock N Roll! I am all for people having morals etc, but you wouldn't go and eat a banana if you didn't like or have morals against it.

IT'S NOT ABOUT BEING CONTROVERSIAL DAMMIT. If you want to be controversial, take a shit on the bible for all I care! Just don't use objectifying as a means of oppression. Oppression is not the rock n' roll lifestyle. It's something that should be eliminated.

"I don't understand rock'n'roll" lol

you don't get it. I don't care if the women wanted to be there and I'm totally don't care if ladies in skimpy clothing are hanging out with the band. But that's not the point. The point is they only appeared to be there for the male gaze. and if the "point" of rock'n'roll is for women to sit around and for band members to look at/use as arm candy, then Green Day should be breaking that stereotype, not reinforcing it. It's blatant sexism, sorry if you can't see that.

They aren't only their for the male gaze what so ever in this video, they are their as i have previously stated to portray a typical/stereotypical Rock N Roll scene!

WTF IS GOING ON WITH THE GIRLS... I THINK ONE OF THEM KINDA SINGS ALONG AT ONE PART BUT THAT'S IT!!!!!!! THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING THROUGH OUT THE WHOLE VIDEO AND JUST MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE TO WATCH! GOD, AND THEY GOT "PUNK" GIRLS AS WELL (WITH TATTOOS AND EVERYTHING) BUT IT SEEMS LIKE PUNK OR AT LEAST GREEN DAY IS THE LAST THING ON THERE MIND...

I understand you're frustrated, but please try not using full caps.

There was nothing fun, exciting or dangerous about that video...

Sexy? Yes, the band did look sexy. And guys probably think the girls look sexy, too. But unfortunately, that's not all it takes to make a good video.

I think the problem is that too many people expect everything Green Day make nowadays to be exactly the same as the stuff they made back in 2004. They expect something completely different to what they actually are left with, and that's why so many people are disappointed.

Even if this video was a little boring, people still need to lower/change their standards a little and they might actually enjoy their favourite band making new music.

I agree with this one. Green day should never be the same because it makes rock music lose its attract. this video is a great example of an all new start with an all new perspective.

just stop. you don't get it

your definition of "rock n roll" is sexist and yes it's supposed to be controversial but it's also about moving forward. making changes. sexism has been around forever and if anything, rock should be pushing AWAY from it, not regressing back to it. jesus.

There's no harm in discussing why it's bad though, because it is pretty bad! :P

Oh no, I like the discussion. It's funny seeing everyone get bent out of shape over a video they'll never see again unless they look for it.

Oh come on. I agreed with part of your sentiment, but this was not "oppression." Don't get carried with it.

I disagree that they're only there for the male gaze. I thought they were there to represent the lyrics of the song, which is about feeling sexual tension and desire and wanting to act on it. The band are playing the characters feeling the sexual tension and temptation, and the women are playing the characters causing it. Seems like a straightforward representation of the lyrics to me.

I don't expect it to be the same. But a bad video is a bad video (for me it was)! And I'm just leaving it at that really. I'm not gonna lower my standards for the sake of liking every video that Green Day puts out, that's stupid. At the end of the day videos really don't matter for me and I am certainly enjoying seeing my band making music.

I wouldn't call it straightforward. Only because I don't think the lyrics are straightforward. I think the video is a representation of the lowest common denominator behind the meaning.

I kind of think that, given that they're not trying to be political or whatever, they wanted to make a video that was as far removed from that as possible. no messages, no hidden agendas, no story lines, no bold statements. it has to be intentional. they're not totally stupid

Posted

Really? Thats it? fucking dull, I thought it would be sexy but the chicks are just random there, it's like they couldn't think of anything else so they just decided to play the song and put some boobs just to give teenagers a reason to watch it.

I'm not saying the video is. But saying that "the rock n' roll lifestyle is supposed to be about girls in your dressing room dressed with nothing for your amusement" is, in my opinion.

There is nothing sexy about that video.

Those girls looked legit gross.

I would rather just have a music video of the band performing.

Yes, I accept that you didn't like it. What I meant was people just need to accept that they're trying new things.

Looks like they filmed it in a crack den full of prostitutes high off their tits.

I think that's what they were goin' for tbh lol

I just managed to watch it myself, and I don't know what the fuss was all about. It's a good video.

This is true!

The only video that I watched only once and not going to repeat it

I agree with this too. They're showing a "rock and roll scene" to represent the lyrics and feel of the song. NOT to represent the band. All the people in the video (the women and the band) are playing fictional rock and roll type characters to illustrate the song.

Yes. It does. Because he could just ban you. And it's giving me a headache.

Well said. I think that's why I'm a little confused by the video. I guess I didn't really view the song as being about "lust" until they said it in the interview. I always viewed it as being about new love, maybe an innocent love. You know, still in the beginning, all happy times of a relationship before Nimrod-esque problems sit in. Now I feel stupid for thinking that!
