Ryan Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Brain Stew is a great song, but it kills the mood. To be honest, I also think ALL the songs off Nimrod kill the mood. The band didn't have much energy when the wrote Nimrod and Warning. That's why those albums sound awful live. Agree with you about Nimrod, although I would murder somebody to see them play "The Grouch" live again. Completely disagree about songs from Warning though. I really wish that they would play more songs from that album. I don't even thing they did it justice when they were touring for it. They need to be playing Castaway, Church on Sunday, and Hold On. Not because they would beef up the energy (even though all but Hold On would) but because they are awesome!
Femme Gauche Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I was saying Brain Stew and all the songs off of Nimrod and Warning The way you phrased it seemed to mean you meant that it was on Nimrod also; misunderstood! Might have a totally new meaning now... XD. I actually think it would be at home with the new material.
Ritz Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I wanna see Homecoming too. Waiting. and omg there are too many songs :/

Warning is my favorite album. Without a doubt. But I think Castaway and Minority are the only 2 songs that can create energy. But Jesus of Suburbia means a lot to a lot of people. Even now it would create a lot of energy. I hope they put it back into their setlist

TaylorKlinke Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I would cry if they took Brainstew off the setlist hahaha it's a classic! On my own, here we go! And JOS, it's my favorite song besides When I Come Around
Guest Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I could see JOS as part of a medley with some other AI/21CB era stuff. Plenty of bands out there will do a 7-10 minute long medley of some of their popular songs from past albums that they just don't have the time or audience demand to play in full. I'd say a 10-minute epic of a song could fall into that category, maybe by starting the medley off with the opening two verses of the song then segueing into something else during the drum solo (drum solos are a great place to segue). But they almost certainly won't do that. There will probably be a rotation of old songs that get tossed in each night, and JOS will probably be in that rotation every once in a while. Just don't expect to see a ten-minute song played frequently when they have three albums of new material to promote.

Yeah, I don't think they'll never play it live, but for it to be a regular part of their set when they have all the new stuff doesn't really make sense to me. Well, but who knows. I don't think these shows are really an indicator of what their larger shows are going to be like, anyway, other than "awesome".
That Dude Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 The setlists so far have been varied and that's awesome. Here's to hoping they play different songs at every show.
Guest Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 It's had its time. Should be replaced with Homecoming. My thoughts exactly.
Heather. Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I keep having this fantasy of a hardcore fan getting the opportunity to sit down with Green Day and have a talk with them, like, "Look guys, we love you, but I'm really speaking for the majority of people when I say we don't need or want you to play Know Your Enemy. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but if you're looking to put on the best show you can, that's an easy step you can take." I feel like they would legitimately want to know how many people dislike the song. It's a good live rally, but it's still not a song people really care to hear. But I bet if anyone had the heart to tell them, they wouldn't believe us, because they've only ever gotten "oh-ey-oh-ey" responses to make them think we're all enjoying it. Because it's not like we're going to boo when it comes on, even if internally I'm like "All right, gotta get through the next couple minutes." The song sold too well, that was misleading
amy_runs Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 i just want to hear westbound sign for 2.5 hours
Nemo. Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Jesus of Suburbia means so much to me. I can't even express it. I've always dreamed of watching it live. If supposedly Green Day comes to India for a show and they don't play JoS, I'll be really depressed. That is the song that I look forward to the most. They should have a balanced set list and yes we wanna see the new stuff too and some old classics too ! But JoS is JOS !! No replacements on that for me. same here. i really hope that they'll play it at the regular shows. this is one of the songs i always wanted to see live. they could kick some new songs in my opinion because JESUS OF SUBURBIA CAN'T BE KICKED OUT OF A GD SETLIST!!!!!! it's the best gd song and even better live
Mar Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 They didn't play Stairway to Heaven either they also didn't play bohemian rhapsody. OR FREE BIRD. BASTARDS. I'm happy to see it go, personally. Now if they would only do the same with Brainstew... OH MY GOD, I'd honestly love if Brain Stew/Jaded, Hitchin' A Ride and Minority were replaced. As for JOS, it's not the first time they've cut it for a while. iirc either the end of the 2009 American tour or the European tour after that, they didn't perform it. It's also important to remember that it wasn't a single (I mean, they didn't play WMUWSE when I saw them, and that's a much bigger song than JOS was) and since that will be up to five albums old by the time Tre comes out, it makes sense. I don't necessarily like it, because hearing JOS live was so fucking amazing, but I can see it.
StuckWithRob Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 OH MY GOD, I'd honestly love if Brain Stew/Jaded, Hitchin' A Ride and Minority were replaced. No way! These songs are classic 'live' songs, along with Jesus of Suburbia. They just sound better live than the studio version. Before I saw Green Day I wished they cut JOS and played 4 songs off Insomniac in the time slot, but after seeing it live I changed my opinion. Some songs have that quality as a live song which means you will remember the moment they were played as a stand out part of the show. There is a reason they haven't played certain songs, off Nimrod especially, live
Seanz25 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 If there playing either JOS or Homecoming it's one of the 2. Both are great songs don't get me wrong but are around 8 minutes ling each. They take up time so on the upcoming tour it's probably going to only be one or the other. That's if they play either. Someone said get rid of American Idiot, I hardly doubt they would. Let's be honest but a huge percentage of people would associate that song with the band as being there being there biggest hit. Also technically it's the song that shot them into stardom. Songs that can go for me are ones like Know Your Enemy. They sound identical to pretty much every other pop rock band that makes it into the chart currently. Not the reason I love Green Day.
DecanoLP Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 The London setlist was pretty cool, I can't wait to see what they're playing at Rock en Seine Not counting Reading here since they're probably gonna do Dookie front to back which would blow all of their setlists away
GuitarPunk94 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 they probably dropped JOS for this promo tour because its a very long song?...i prepared myself to play this song on stage, but well..no i gonna prepare Going To Pasalacqua (along with Knowledge of course ^^ )
holyshitaflyingbanna Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I would love to see them playing Homecoming, it could be the epic ending to there main set, god that would really amazing...
green day drunkbunny Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I hope they don't cut king for a day like someone suggested earlier, I know a lot of you have seen them many times and gotten bored of it but some of us are the people always watching from home unable to be there, I'd like to see king for a day live before that gets scrapped.
GuitarPunk94 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 the topic shoud be renamed in 'No JOS & Good Riddance' :'(
WestboundSign! Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I hope they'll start playing it again somewhen during the actual world tour. Jesus Of Suburbia means a lot to me, it's amazing to see it live and to sing along. In my opinion, it always creates an incredible feeling and atmosphere.
