Starred Thoughts Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 ... I mean, if they don't play it, that's their discretion. I wouldn't be holding my breath for it much this tour, considering how long it is and all the new songs that they're going to want to play first. While it is awesome, I agree with others on here that I'd rather hear more "classics" from further back in their catalog than really anything from AI or even 21CB.
DannyDirnt Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I don't really know what to think. They could get it back for the world tour since it's one of their biggest hits from their most successful album as well as a big audience pleaser, but they culd also let it out because they have way too much stuff now and JoS is 10 minutes long. Or maybe they just replace it with Dirty Rotten Bastards. But they could maybe cut songs like Nice Guys Finish Last and She to make room for it. Jesus Of Suburbia is a much bigger deal than those 2 songs. FUCK NO! Those two are both amazingly epic to death songs. Actually, dying to hear NGFL now that Mike's vocals have a higher volume in concerts.
Clayish Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 It's had its time. Should be replaced with Homecoming.
frunsi Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 i don't care if they drop JOS, as long as they replace it with something from nimrod.
Justin Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 It's had its time. Should be replaced with Homecoming. Id actually love to see that live
green day drunkbunny Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Id actually love to see that live That would be really cool, I like stuff where they all sing.
LittleBoyNamedTrain Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I think it'll be back when they start touring properly. Their North American and UK tours will probably see it return.
burnout409 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Not everyone is going to agree with this but i don't really mind that they have dropped it, the reason being that i've seen it live at every concert of theirs i've been to (apart from last night), i would love to hear some songs i haven't heard live yet to name a few ..... "Stuck With Me" "Reject" "Christie Road" etc etc etc ...... its also not like i don't enjoy songs i've heard before, Hitchin' a Ride, Brain Stew/Jaded, American Idiot, Basket Case etc are all regulars in Green Day set lists but i still love to death hearing them every time!!! Also it is a long song, and Green Day are about to release a hell of a lot of new songs in the coming months and to fit it all in plus all the old classics people still wanna hear, somethings gotta go from previous sets, and well i think it kinda makes sense in some ways to drop it from some shows .... i would be surprised if they don't play it all in the gigs within the next few years, it is a classic Green Day song now and a popular one!
Cris. Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 It's had its time. Should be replaced with Homecoming. This would be epic! Homecoming remains one of the (few by now) songs that I HAVE to see live, but haven't yet. (And Peacemaker, seriously, why do they never play that?). I think dropping JoS is sad, but it also makes sense, they can play two songs in the same amount of time it takes to play JoS, and given that they're releasing 37 new songs, they can really use any room they clear in their setlist. I rather have them cutting it out completelly rather than cutting some verses or such like the 6 minute long "radio-friendsly" version they played in the short version of the video. My guess is though that they're just trying to play as much new material in these small gigs, and pre-release shows, but once they're officially on tour they might still playit every other show or so. It's about time they change their act during King For a Day though... creat a new act with a new song or something. THat part of the show takes some good 10 minutes or so, and for people who have watched it more than twice or so it gets old (at least it did for me).

We've been seeing the same songs for almost 6 years straight now.
Cris. Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 We've been seeing the same songs for almost 6 years straight now. I don't exactly agree with that. Sure, some songs have been a fixture, but others vary a lot. I first saw them in NJ in 2005 and that sdetlist was different from when I saw them in NY in 2009 two night in a row, even the set lists from each of those nights was different. And then I saw them in Caracas in 2010 and that setlist (where they played 10 songs from AI, even more than in NJ in the AI tour) was, obviously, also different from the previous 3. But stuff like King for a Day, or "saving" a kid in EJN gets old. Some other classics don't, because they just play it and move on, without there being any great fuss to the song.

A LOT of songs should/can be dropped for the upcoming tour, order of the songs should be different, keep the request/random part of the set, close the set with Good Riddance, encore should be Holden Caulfield and Pasalqcua.
Fuzz Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 But they could maybe cut songs like Nice Guys Finish Last and She to make room for it. Jesus Of Suburbia is a much bigger deal than those 2 songs. You better wash your damn mouth for saying such things. I'm actually not sad to see JOS off the setlist. It's been played so many times. Yes, it's a good song, but like everything it's had it's day. I'd prefer to see more newer stuff in it's place while keeping some of the kick-ass songs from older albums in place.
Femme Gauche Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Isn't it sort of up to the band which songs they like to play more? I mean... everything they do live is pretty much a "classic" in my opinion. The only one that is pretty much guaranteed is "Good Riddance", but I wouldn't be surprised if eventually even that got re-tooled.

I think by now JoS should be considered an old song as well I mean, when American Idiot came out we thought of songs from Nimrod as old... 8 years, and soon to be 2 (then 3 and then 4) albums away from AI, songs from that album already should start being thought of as having some senority (even if not as much as Dookie of course). So this being considered, JoS is, IMO, "a kick-ass song from, older albums".
greendepent Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 If you see the drumkit, you see that it lacks from china crash, and it is used to play that song. I think that song isn't played since they have a lot of stuff to play and these 10 minutes they can play 3 new songs
blitzkriegdeb Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 As much of a good song it is live, it's nice to see it go. As someone else said, they could easily do 2 or 3 other songs in the time it would take to play JOS.
She is Amanda Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 NO NO NON NO NO. I really can't imagine this. I've never seen Green Day live. I'm planning to see them live next time they come around. But Jesus of Suburbia is "that one" Green Day song for me. They need to cut their overplayed songs. Know Your Enemy and American Idiot need to go. Every single dream I have of a Green Day concert, their playing that, and it doesn't help I was listening to the song when I saw this thread.
Ritz Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Jesus of Suburbia means so much to me. I can't even express it. I've always dreamed of watching it live. If supposedly Green Day comes to India for a show and they don't play JoS, I'll be really depressed. That is the song that I look forward to the most. They should have a balanced set list and yes we wanna see the new stuff too and some old classics too ! But JoS is JOS !! No replacements on that for me.
Jaymee!! Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I'm happy to see it go, personally. Now if they would only do the same with Brainstew...
Femme Gauche Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I'm happy to see it go, personally. Now if they would only do the same with Brainstew... Aw, but I love Brain Stew live!
Ryan Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I wouldn't go so far as to label Nice Guys Finish Last as a "classic". Unless you label every Green Day song before American Idiot as a classic. HOLY FUCK!!! Am I actually agreeing with you? I've never been a fan of Nice Guys Finish Last. If I'm pressed for time, it's actually a skipper on Nimrod. Although, if I'm pressed for time I will never put in Nimrod. Haha. Aw, but I love Brain Stew live! Brainstew has NEVER been one of my favorite songs...but I LOOOVVVE Jaded. Haha
She is Amanda Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Aw, but I love Brain Stew live! Brain Stew is a great song, but it kills the mood. To be honest, I also think ALL the songs off Nimrod kill the mood. The band didn't have much energy when the wrote Nimrod and Warning. That's why those albums sound awful live.
