(it's so much fun dreaming up setlist). They should have a thing where fans can pick what songs are played.

I think they'll probably open up with Nuclear Family on the tour, at least I hope they do.

They should have a thing where fans can pick what songs are played.

It's called a "Bruce Springsteen concert". But realistically, they're at the point of their career where they would be able to do this. I hope the setlists will be looser for the next tour, they improved them on the 21st Century Breakdown tour by playing random songs in the middle but they still always opened with the same songs, played the same encores and played the medleys at the same bits. Hope that is kept to a minimum by the fact that they have 36 new songs that will hopefully be on rotation.

Good thread.

I loved the setlist for the first show, but they will rework it for the major tour. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see them open up with Welcome To Paradise now, but it'll most likely be Nuclear Family.

They really need to switch up the order though, they've basically played the same set for the past 2 years, besides the request part of the show which they should keep.

I get irrationally angry about Hitchin' a Ride seemingly NEEDING to be on their setlists in their minds. It's not like I particularly dislike the song, I think it's a good song, but there are soooo many other deserving tracks on Nimrod that never see the light of day, and there's nothing particularly special about Hitchin a Ride being performed live besides Billie's moaning, and he can squeeze that in anywhere  Seriously, I get more pissed about this than Know Your Enemy, because I pray that KYE will disappear. They seem to have this bizarre dedication to Hitchin a Ride, like they assume they can't do a show without it. I really doubt many people would care if they dropped it, so I wished they would... Waiting, for example, should be an absolute staple over a song like this.

I could really do without Murder City. I find it kind of boring.

Ugh! I really want them to have longer sets. Because of the new songs. Like 5 from each album, then some old stuff! I'm getting sick of them playing stuff from AI...

1) I'd like them to play around 25-30 new songs :)

2) Around 10-15 because there's so many new songs, if it was one album, it'd be fine just 5 songs off the album.

3) Hopefully ones from AI and 21CB because with these albums, they're stepping away from the rock opera stuff. I would like them to start playing more 39/Smooth and Kerplunk as a substitute for them.

4) I'll admit though, that SOTC/21CB we're fucking great opening songs! But I'm not sure. I'd have to listen to the albums first :) I'd still want them to close with Good Riddance :L

Maybe if they had a song that starts like Armatage Shanks, you know, with the cool drums and all, they should open with that! :D

I think that we can't say too much about a new standard set since they play a special set when they are in the promo. But right now this is looking good. Sad there's no Stuck With Me :c

I just hope they don't cut out their first few albums again on the upcoming tour. I was really enjoying hearing 1039, Kerplunk, and unpopular Dookie tracks. I would rather them cut out the AI/21CB stuff out. Or even stuff like Welcome to Paradise and Longview. I want lots of brand new and lots of old.

Ugh! I really want them to have longer sets. Because of the new songs. Like 5 from each album, then some old stuff! I'm getting sick of them playing stuff from AI...

1) I'd like them to play around 25-30 new songs :)

Well, you'll be pleased with the shows they've done in Japan. they played 27 songs, mostly new songs with a bunch of old songs, a few Idiot songs and one 21st Century song.

Pretty sure they won't play 8 new songs on the tour now. Remember, last night was still a small club show. This is a big festival tomorrow :)

I hope they don't just shoe in the American Idiot/21st Century Breakdown songs into the encores because they're the "big epic songs". Always coming on for an encore of American Idiot and Jesus Of Suburbia just got boring really quickly on the last tour. I'd rather they kept JOS as a rarity to pull out from time to time. They should be well past the idea of "we need to play Basket Case/Jesus Of Suburbia every night because that might be someone's favourite song", because at this stage no one should be going to see them for one song. If Bruce Springsteen is still out there playing legendary gigs and not playing Thunder Road then it can be done.

More Pre Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning.....and some Shenanigans.

As previously mentioned, id be pretty happy with them to drop King For A Day and Shout, the last time i saw them at Wembley Stadium i actually found myself bored of it, when you've seen it done many times before its bit tedious and cynically thinking i found myself saying to my friend (who iv been to every GD show with) the 10 minuted this takes id happily hear some other songs.

With the setlist however, this question i would love to ask Billie Joe if i ever get the chance to meet him. "Who wrote Holden Caufield is your favourite song off kerplunk, so why the hell do you hardly play it"

Iv seen my favourite songs played before Going To Pasalacqua, Waiting and Maria, so now i just like to see songs i havent seen live before, so any irregulars is great for me.

I'm 100% sure that they will close with an acoustic encore, with Good Riddance as the classic last track. It seems to me that some guys here didn't consider this "ritual". :D

I think that they play tomorrow a set like Not so silent night, plus Oh Love and some other one. I don't expect that they play JOS, Eulogy and Breakdown again together, just like a half of hour with 3 songs...what a waste!

I agree with your sentiment, but I don't think they should ever drop those songs. The great majority of people in attendance at Green Day shows only know their hits and maybe some of the more popular album cuts from Dookie and AI. They can appreciate the unknowns is moderate doses (interspersed with hits), and they'll probably enjoy most of it regardless, but they CAME to hear the Basketcases and JOS's. At my first Green Day show, I remember thinking "I will absolutely go home crying if they don't play Good Riddance and Boulevard of Broken Dreams!!!!!!!" because I was a total n00b and truly had no idea what to expect. And to know that you have heard their greatest songs ever performed live is very special. Obviously today I would find that attitude laughable coming from myself, but there are always going to be thousands of kids just like that showing up to Green Day arena concerts, and they deserve to hear the songs they actually know and love. And believe it or not, most of them, like me, didn't know that I could count on Green Day to always play those songs. So even though at this point, most of the people on GDC don't need to hear the hits again, so many of the people going to these shows paid good money to hear one of the biggest bands in the world play some of their biggest songs, and I totally respect that.

If I got to see the Beatles perform tomorrow, fuck yeah I would want them to play Let it Be and Hey Jude and Revolution and Yesterday. Screw the rest of their tracks that I also love. And that's what a lot of people want from Green Day. We're already pretty blessed because they tend to give everyone a little something to enjoy----please the masses, but give some Holden Caulfields to the "How many old school fucking Green Day fans are out here tonight?"

Admittedly, the current set makes it all the more special when you're at a Green Day gig and Billie-Joe starts the hammer-on intro for Going To Pasalacqua and you just go mental.

Alright, the first big show took place yesterday which brought us a new setlist:

1. Welcome To Paradise

2. Know Your Enemy

3. Let Yourself Go

4. Stay The Night

5. Oh Love

6. Holiday

7. Letterbomb

8. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams

9. Hitchin' A Ride

10. Brain Stew

11. St. Jimmy

12. Geek Stink Breath

13. 2000 Light Years Away

14. Longview

15. She

16. Basket Case

17. King For A Day

18. Shout (w/ Hey Jude)

19. 99 Revolutions

20. American Idiot

21. Minority

Well, I still don't know what to think about that setlist. It seems to be kinda short with only 21 songs being played, but we probably have to wait for the first solo show then since this was played at a festival.

I'm very surprised they didn't play Good Riddance though. I don't need it at a show, but it still surprises me since it's a big fan favourite.

Anyway, Welcome To Paradise opening the show is as epic as it gets. Furthermore, it pleases me to see that they dropped nearly all the 21stCB - songs (even 21 Guns!), but it looks like they didn't replace them with other songs lol.

No Jaded is kind of a bummer though.

What do you think? Maybe we'll get a different set today :)
