WhiteTim Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Your prize: Go answer my question in the question and answer thread. Couldnt tell ya not a fan of Network at all
Ratchet Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 The way Billie delivers the "I'm sick to death of your every last breath" line in that altered flamboyant way (that's the only way I can describe it ) is so fucking great, like he's really mocking whoever the song is directed at... I would be really bummed if that line isn't made to sound special on the studio version! Yeah same, I love how the line is delivered! Though I wouldn't if it was directed at me :/
captain peroxide Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 The more I listen, the more I think it's "you are offending my patience again" instead of "over-feeding." Cause over-feeding makes no goddamn sense.
Heather. Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Could be "over-feeling"... I think that makes slightly more sense than over-feeding, at least. Ironically, this is something I'm patient enough to wait for the album booklet for
Sanity Loan Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 The more I listen, the more I think it's "you are offending my patience again" instead of "over-feeding." Cause over-feeding makes no goddamn sense. Over-feeding makes sense. But offending works too
Matthi23 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Although I love "Oh Love!" I prefer this one ! Energetic, funky words ^^ and yet a solo that really fuc***g good I really hope that the first album will be like this !
StarKiller Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I hope they changed the solo in the studio version. It sounds pretty generic with just the typical 39/Smooth scale. It's basically the same solo as the ones in 1039/SOSH, almost exactly like Why Do You Want Him's solo. However Oh Love's solo has this rock'n'roll touch to it which I think is awesome. But of course I could totally be mishearing things
DTH Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 i complained about oh love. but i actually like this one. it could be on nimrod and has a solo like the songs on 1039 smoothed out slappy hours. i alyways hoped they bring those solos back.
Brother Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 This song sounds nothing like Christian's Inferno. If you don't like it, that's fine, but don't justify that opinion comparing the song with another completely different, that you also don't like. I think this is a small taste of what Billie called "a big fuck you to everybody", and I fucking love it Some are comparing this song to Christians inferno (myself included) because of how repetitive we think it is, not because we think they sound the same.
DannyDirnt Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 The more I listen, the more I think it's "you are offending my patience again" instead of "over-feeding." Cause over-feeding makes no goddamn sense. How can someone offend a patience? Couldn't over-feeding mean that his patience is over and he is totally fed up?
captain peroxide Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 How can someone offend a patience? Couldn't over-feeding mean that his patience is over and he is totally fed up? Well, offending someone's patience could mean you're doing something so stupid and annoying, it's offensive to even think they could put up with it. Neither of them are particularly commonly-used expressions, so it could be either, but I've never heard of anyone use the phrase "over-feeding" before.
Bastard of 1967 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Some are comparing this song to Christians inferno (myself included) because of how repetitive we think it is, not because we think they sound the same. Repetition has nothing to do with it. Rather - the bass line and the percussion downbeat/backbeat are very similar to what was used to back Christian's Inferno....but what they layer on top of it here is quite different.
justcause Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I think the interesting thing about this song - given the guessed-at lyrics - is that it feels like a hybrid. It feels like Green Day reached for that kind of song - like, the full-on hate/rage song of days gone by, but it got over-ridden by evolution. So, despite what the verses are saying in terms of 'fuck you' - and whether they're addressed to an actual person or to a state of mind personified - the chorus represents enlightenment. You can't undo knowledge, and you can't go back.
ANobodie Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 yes, he can go back - thats the beauty of music - if you can imagine it and sing it - then its real. Maybe he is not even speaking for himself, maybe he is speaking for one of his kids.
greendepent Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 So I gave it a couple days, and I came to this conclusion: Let Yourself Go, for me, is like the Static Age of the last album. Or like the Christie Road of Kerplunk - something like that. It's one of those songs that almost everyone else loves and cites as a favorite on the CD, but which I think is mediocre and boring, and ultimately one of the least inspired, worst songs on the album. I originally thought of it as the Know Your Enemy of the album, but everyone actually likes it, so the Static Age/Christie Road comparisons work better. I still think LYG is too predictable and similar to their older stuff... not because I don't like that sound, but because I'm more interested in lots of variety and hearing how much Green Day can evolve and experiment. So while it's a good song, I feel like it's nothing special, for now or compared to their older material. I'm glad it wasn't the first song I heard from the trilogy, because it would have had the same effect on me as KYE did (make me less excited, even worried, about the album). But I'm glad you all like it Just not happy about all the unnecessary Oh Love hating. (I still think that's the best song ever ♥) I get what you say about LYG, but the comparisons with Static Age and Christie Road I don't like much. Ok, Static Age have his good lyrics, and the music reminds to Church On Sunday in a higher key. But Christie Road is one of these classics...I can't explain how great it feels. Also, is one of the first songs that have two "fases" well marked, musically speaking, of course. With the rest, I agree, LYG is "nothing special" song, for me. Even worse, 'cause we know that in Uno brings us Stay The Night and Kill the DJ, probably the best of this record. Anyway, final first impressions will come listening the whole album

I wasn't saying Let Yourself Go sounds anything like The Static Age or Christie Road (musically, lyrically, or whatever), or that they're bad songs. It's just that they're among my least favorites on the CDs they're on, like what I expect will happen with LYG, and yet almost everyone else cites them as among their favorites. But I will wait until I hear all of Uno before I make any final judgements about anything. I am excited for a lot of the songs on it (and Dos and Tré), especially Kill The DJ.
Ritz Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 This song is messing with my head. I'll surely sing this thing to my friends at college cos they suck. I'll be like 'hey Green Day wrote a song for you'. It'll be a different story when they listen to it I wanna see their faces

Well, I think that Insomniac owns totally Dookie, so I don't see anything bad about it. Just too much love about Christie Road, nothing else. I think that I'll dance when I listen Kill the DJ. But who knows, maybe is a song about joining a church (?) This song is messing with my head. I'll surely sing this thing to my friends at college cos they suck. I'll be like 'hey Green Day wrote a song for you'. It'll be a different story when they listen to it I wanna see their faces I think that LYG is song to dedicate to all our beloved friends. Well done, dude
Katarina. Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Decided to listen to this after all. It's been a few days and I already forgot most of it, except for the first line, the chorus and the awesomeness of it Aw man, I really cannot wait to hear the studio version and just the rest of the album! Like Oh Love, everything about these songs, so the singing, the bass, the guitar, the drums, it sounds SO good together. Warning: Green Day addiction coming back.

DannyDirnt Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I never thought Christian's Inferno was repeptitive. Only that the only good part is the "Wooo Christian's Inferno!" one imo xD
Trina Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I don't really understand why so many people are now comparing it to Christian's Inferno and saying they're alike/LYG is a better version.. Christian's Inferno is an internal conflict, or rather, internal disgust and rage. The hell within your mind. LYG is a fuck you to uptight, boring, alway whine-never do type of people who hold on to every negative. CI = internal. LYG = external. (Although I do think LYG was also written a little about BJ himself too as he seems to come across as the kind of person who needs to remind himself to let it go..) Anyways, musically I don't really see much similarity either. Both fast paced, yeah. Yet LYG isn't really an angry song, it's fun and almost joyous...pogo-y and light-hearted (although he does mean the message to be taken seriously). Christian's Inferno reeks of illness to me. Like...it just reminds me of when I feel sick in my stomach, rotting with self-hatred and disgust and rage. Just that...gross feeling...it's perfectly captured. Then takes you to that point, that tipping point when you've lost your mind, you're not yourself but weirdly feel more pure and you can either take this feeling and use it for positive change or you can embrace it and self-destruct. It can make it a really hard listen whereas LYG is just a fun fuck-you with a good message. For me Christian's Inferno is filled with such torment- lyrically, musically, atmospherically, that I can't compare it to LYG in any capacity.
captain peroxide Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Christian's Inferno also sucks, and LYG doesn't. So...there's that. Seriously though, awesome post.
