-Billiejoezee- Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I like the "Shut your mouth 'cause you're talking too much and I don't give a fuck anyway" phrase... it would work funny as a phone call ringtone It would! I really wish this would be a single.
*withoutadoubt* Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 The more I hear from these albums, the more excited I become about all of it!! Let Yourself Go is just so great - Love it!! It's so full of energy, and it definitely makes you wanna do what Billie is telling you to do! This is going to be INSANE live! I love the way things are progressing this time, releasing things in this way is brilliant, imo. Should say - it's diamond-bright, kicks ass fucking hardcore, and has all the desperate energy it takes to escape a pent-up place. Love the rapid-fire flow of the lyrics, how vivid they are - it's like punch-punch-punch. Yes, yes, yes! It's almost impossible not to comply, lol!
Mellow Dramatic Jeff Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Does anyone know what the heck Billie says towards the end when he's saying "You're fucking with my head now" and it goes "You're the very thing I..." I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT EVEN WITH HEADPHONES IN A PADDED ROOM!
Clayish Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Classic Green Day song right here, the energy, catchy chorus, screaming Billie Joe. Way better choice for the first single off Uno! What do you think?
Malleus Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I like the song but there is a little too much cursing for it to get a lot of airplay. I think Oh Love was a great choice for a single because it's new and catchy and radio friendly.
iRun Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I think Oh Love was a perfect first single for UNO. It's catchy, and it draws in people who aren't "die hard" Green Day fans.
Alan86 Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Yeah I agree there is too much cursing for it to get any air time. Radio stations wouldn't play it. That said I do think there are probably more radio friendly songs on UNO that would have made a better first single. Nuclear Family and Stay the night spring to mind. Let Yourself Go is perfect as a controlled leak, just to promote the albums a bit further.

I agree, Stay The Night would have been the best first single for Uno. Also the best single for Green Day ever because that song is fucking amazing but that's a different story.
captain peroxide Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I'm starting to feel like they're throwing stuff at us from all angles, just to fuck with us. Radio-friendly pop hit immediately followed by the rawest song they've made since the 90s. Anyway, I'm gonna merge this with the LYG thread, since we don't really need a separate one for this question.
Hermione Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Was about to do my first merge, you saved me confusing myself trying to do it. At this stage I'm not that bothered what they release as singles. Like, back in the old days , it seemed so much more straightforward, a single and video would come out and you'd see it on tv and see what place it got to in the charts. But now with downloading being huge and videos and singles coming out ages apart and there being no proper music programmes and stuff they just don't seem as important. But yeah ignoring that, I like the fact that they came back with Oh Love because it's so different from what you'd expect being a bit more chilled, it's an interesting choice. Let Yourself Go would make a cool future single though. I'm not really bothered about airplay anyway but they could just bleep it, there's plenty of songs that have loads of swearing in them but have censored versions that have been big hits (recent examples: Fuck You/Forget You by Cee-Lo and Dedication To My Ex by Lloyd). Would be a fabulously catchy and pump ass single, maybe releasing it around the time the album comes out would be good.
Malleus Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Fuck You works because you can censor "fuck" as "forget" and it's still a cool song, but you can't do that with Let Yourself Go. I doubt Green Day would record another version with a word replacing it too. I don't know why but I just don't see Let Yourself Go being a cool single, but like you said Hermione, singles aren't really that important so I don't care too much about it.

Nah the chorus would be in tact which is the main thing, and "I don't give a *beep* anyway" could sound pretty cool if done right. But even if it didn't get much airplay I'd still just enjoy knowing they'd released such a ballsy song. Although an even ballsier move would be releasing Fuck Time when Dos comes around.....I'd be more than happy for them to skip Let Yourself Go if they did that instead . Like I said the singles don't mean that much to me but I'm always a fan of them doing things that are nice and bold and daring.
justcause Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I'm really interested in how the studio version of this is gonna sound - like, when the energy that's pouring outwards in the live performance is pulled inwards to a focal point. I feel like it's gonna be intense, and maybe a little darker.
Sarcasm Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I hope they just release the live version or has it been determined already that it's not the case. I'm kind of hoping that too, cause a studio version is doomed to be too polished. It will NOT have the same energy as the version released, and Billie will be using his stuffed nose voice instead of the live-voice Jimmy illustrated in this weeks SN.

"I don't give a damn anyway" "I don't really care anyway" They are releasing a clean version of the record, it's always possible that they could be doing word replacements.

I find this plausible. Lot's of songs are released that way. But the most hilarious censoring ever was when Lily Allen's "Fuck you" was released on spotify, and it was censored using animal sounds. As long as LYG isn't censored in that sense, I'm ok with it, cause then I could think that it could be so much worse.
justcause Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I hope they just release the live version or has it been determined already that it's not the case. I meant as a track on Uno - I'm assuming that'll be a studio version.

They used a donkey.

Radio-friendly pop hit immediately followed by the rawest song they've made since the 90s. Anyway, I'm gonna merge this with the LYG thread, since we don't really need a separate one for this question. Not to get too pedantic or anything, but what makes Let Yourself Go the "rawest" song they've released since the 90s? That seems to be something of a concensus since the video came out, and it puzzles me. I think he nature of the song's release, the live video, is making a lot of people overestimate a pretty back-to-basics Green Day song. I'd argue that even Christian's Inferno is much "rawer" than LYG. That being said, I do like how the live video for LYG seems to fit into the emerging marketing strategy for this album; the weekly "singles, leaked tracks, videos" route that was mentioned in a recent article. If it all goes according to plan, it's a really cool way to get maximum exposure for the new songs and albums on a frequent basis.
Cori Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I was just listening to the beginning of this and the part after the guitar solo and I thought, "This reminds me of something..." Then I realized what it was. It bears a similarity to the second studio update video. Does anyone else think they sound alike? Could that video have been of Let Yourself Go?
greendayrocksmysocksoff Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 shit I love this song! Prefer it to the other song. This is the green day I know and love.
Todd Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 We dont need to call this LYG. Its not that long. Come on. We dont say WtP, BC, BS+B, MDP, EG, CI, CR, etc. Btw, bonus points if you can name all of those

greendepent Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I like the song, fast-paced things I wanted to hear for time ago. Like some people say, I'm wondering how this will sound on the record, and I'm afraid that it loses its power. I like that the song doesn't sound too touched in studio, at least the voice, like happened to AAF. Maybe the guitars sound too clean for a live performance, but it's ok. The best thing is that Billie Joe uses his forgotten abilities with guitar soloing. In the end, this is like and Insomniac song, but less raw and with a solo. Cool
