lizziebix Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Waited to listen to this until I got home from work and hubby and I could listen to it together. We were both ready to jump off the sofa and start dancing. Quite like it a lot.
Android Jesus Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I fucking love it!! It's so addictive!!! I can't get it off of my head
Chelsea831 Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Has anyone figured out the last line in the last verse yet? It sounds like "you're the very thing I can't do without"......not exactly right, but close. That might be right. Or "You're the very thing I cannot stand" ? But I could be wrong.
GreenRanger Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Hey, yknow what's missing from this thread? A debate about how much autotune they've used on Billie's voice. That's right. Zero.
green day is Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 >live recording >club recording at that Let's gamble on whether or not the studio version will use autotune. It is a single after all. Could there really be room for mistakes?
justcause Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Song pounds like a fucking jackhammer - all the feel of being crowded with no space to think, and sure, it could be some-other, an actual person doing this, or it could just as easy be your own thoughts attacking you, the enemy within. 'Let yourself go' - free yourself from this shit. Contrast the internalized 'crowd' of the verses with Billie Joe pointing to the outside crowd, the audience - this time, the 'fucking with my head' is good, it's freedom. I found this song really easy to listen to at first, and then really hard, as the migraine comes across. Should say - it's diamond-bright, kicks ass fucking hardcore, and has all the desperate energy it takes to escape a pent-up place. Love the rapid-fire flow of the lyrics, how vivid they are - it's like punch-punch-punch. What immediately comes is Babs Uvula, but it's not that fucking vortex - it doesn't have that beady-eyed, forensic quality to it, or the cold. Chorus chimes in a way that reminds me of 'A Quick One', and I feel like there's a smear of The Rolling Stones somewhere in the overall. Intro reminds me of 'Footloose' - lol, gotta cut loose.
Clockwise Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Umm no but also the strumming of the single note that Maria also plays as well as the chords almost having the same progression. A flat, to D flat. The choruses are great though. How can you guys not hear it? Play The intro verse and then play Maria right next to it I mean, it is a similarity, but many other songs in their catalogue share bigger similarities than these two.
Heather. Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Depending on my mood, I can interpret the line "Let yourself go" in like, 3 different ways. There's the "You should just relax and stop bothering me" attitude, the "I'm going to let this go and relax," and my favorite evil interpretation: "Go kill yourself" like "take yourself out" That one's the least likely to be the actual message, but if he had snarled it "Why don't you just go let yourself go" it would be more of a suggestion to go fuck yourself.
AndrewW91 Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Can anyone hook me up with a download think for the video? Has it been posted here yet? Can it be posted here? SO MANY QUESTIONS.
green day is Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Except the line is "You let yourself go" He says it quick, because rhythm, but it's still there.
Heather. Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Except the line is "You let yourself go" He says it quick, because rhythm, but it's still there. Didn't know that. Still, he could be referring to himself or someone else. It's sufficiently vague. Obviously, it's just a general message/philosophy to everyone.
green day is Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 >implying Billie let himself go That guy has barely changed a bit since he was twenty. You have a point though.
Clockwise Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Except the line is "You let yourself go" He says it quick, because rhythm, but it's still there. We really don't know that until we get official lyrics, but that's definitely one of the interpretations of the song that we can have. It sounds like he's talking about somebody else, but that somebody else can very well be himself, as we know.
green day is Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Actually... we do know that. Because it's there. It sounds more like "Ylet yourself go, ylet yourself go..." but that's just because 1) it fits the rhythm better and 2) that's how 'Mericans talk.
Ratchet Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 >live recording >club recording at that Let's gamble on whether or not the studio version will use autotune. It is a single after all. Could there really be room for mistakes? I don't think it would have sounded as good as it does WITHOUT fixing it up. They have fixed it up just a bit but still, he sounds natural compared to other stuff that's around atm. But if it was fixed up it wouldn't be Green Day I guess
Clockwise Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Actually... we do know that. Because it's there. It sounds more like "Ylet yourself go, ylet yourself go..." but that's just because 1) it fits the rhythm better and 2) that's how 'Mericans talk. There are many things in Green Day songs that sound like they're there, when they're really not. We won't know until we get the official lyrics, but there's definitely a good chance that you're correct. It's not something I picked up on right away, but now that you pointed it out, I can definitely see it being that way possibly.
Malleus Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Yeah it's pointless to act like it's official when we won't know until we get lyrics, but I can hear it now too, mostly just on the first let yourself go, but I think it's there.
Fuzz Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 I don't hear the "you" or even a hint of "ylet". I think it's possible to think you're hearing it, but I don't. I don't think it would have sounded as good as it does WITHOUT fixing it up. They have fixed it up just a bit but still, he sounds natural compared to other stuff that's around atm. But if it was fixed up it wouldn't be Green Day I guess Pretty sure Bill Schneider explained that with Awesome As Fuck you can't use auto-tune during live performances, or at least they don't, because the sound of the crowd bleeds in through all the microphones (especially Billie's, since he's right up front) and using auto-correct on it would cause the pitch of the crowd to change as well and make them sound funky.

You can use autotune live If an artist is using autotune as correctly it done live in studio as well
amy_runs Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I don't know if it's been said, but I think they released this because the fan reaction from Oh Love might not have been what they expected. I know a lot of people were unhappy with it, so maybe they released this to remind us that Green Day can still play fast/punk songs and the new albums aren't all like Oh Love. Man, this is two songs in a row I'm not fond of. I'm getting worried about the whole trilogy now Let Yourself Go is certainly a burst of energy, and I think it will work okay as a palette-cleansing album track. On its own, however, it inherits some of the problems of Oh Love and doesn't fix those of Christian's Inferno. The verses have a nice stomp to them, the solo is good (if predictably placed), and - as Hermione and everyone else said - I love the "Shut your mouth..." breakdown. Great attitude, lot of fun. But the chorus! Argh. This is everything I hated about Christian's Inferno. "Wwooooaaaahhhh, Christian's Inferno. Wwooooaaaahhhh, Christian's Inferno. Wwooooaaaahhhh, Christian's Inferno" is now "Let yourself gooooo, Let yourself gooooo, Let yourself gooooo. Let yourself gooooo, Let yourself gooooo, Let yourself gooooo" on and on, until you can't take it anymore. It's not so bad the first time, but when they get around to repeating it twelve times at the end, you've had enough. This is a sub-2 minute song, stretched to nearly 4. If they're going to do these kind of tracks, they need to just get in and out, not fuck about repeating a one-line chorus for eternity. As was the case with Oh Love, someone - anyone - needed to step in and do some editing. They didn't, and it's starting to become a pattern. I agree
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Or better said: You don't give a fuck anyway! (Sorry, I just had to! ) Haha, if I was ever functional at 7 a.m. (when I posted that) I would have thought of that one myself! Clever!
QueenOfSuburbia Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Go to page 7, I made a Soundcloud version of the song Got it! Thank you so much! I fucking love it! Can't stream? Can't download? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyPyqtyRAXc&feature=player_embedded Yeah I got it! Thank you!
Ritz Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Okay I was just listening to Oh Love after LYG. I love both the songs, for me both are great. Comparisons shouldn't be made whether Oh Love was good as a first single or not and stuff like that. I liked it, I have 2 great new GD songs to listen to, so I'm happy !
QueenOfSuburbia Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Question to people that went to that secret show at red7: How does it feel to re-live this moment by seing the video? Must be amazing!!!
