Neon Light Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 "Hitch a ride, tell em' all you like" I love references to past material! Kind of like Westbound Sign "Is tragedy 2000 miles away?" The song is so kick-ass! Fast, punchy, straight to the point. I think someone's fucking with Billie's head, would you agree? It really seems like this is what Green Day critics have been asking for. Now they can have no complaints right? Wishful thinking I know.
Sixtrix Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 This is how the song would sound clean on the radio: - Not too bad.... Don't be so modest Matt, that's some fucking awesome editing there!
Berkeley Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 THAT WAS SO GOOD. This is everything Christian's Inferno was supposed to be. I second that. Those were exactly my first thoughts. I can't wait for Uno to be released... it'll be mind blowing.
Tubbie Head Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I love how you are all discussing how much this song sounds like a number of others (not only with this one, in every new song thread basically). And I NEVER ever hear a clear similarity (or I only hear it if I try very hard) ! I guess that's good, to me
Malleus Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I have a poster on my door of Green Day from around 1994 and I was looking at it during this song and it was to easy to imagine that these were the same kids playing the song I was listening to. I'm actually really impressed about how well they're managing to make a new and fresh sound while still having that classic feel. I'm trying not to let my huge boner bias every time anything remotely related to GD pops up get in the way and I still feel the same. This song is really impressing me after the 17th listen. EDIT: Yeah Tubbie Head, I was thinking like that a bit too. I do not hear the similiarty between Maria or Bab's at all but I am sure they are there if other people do.
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I don't dislike Oh Love, I really like it (well it is a Green Day song so I'd probably love it if was 5 minutes of Billie Joe making farting noises ). Sorry for hurting your feelings Oh Love It's just that Oh love took a few listens for me to fall in love with it whereas LYG had me hooked from the first listen. In fact it's already become one of my listened to songs, it's the first song they've released in a long time that I'm able to play on repeat and not make myself sick of hearing it. Thank you We can all love both Let Yourself Go and Oh Love, right? They're both great, just in different ways
Dalya Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 That sounds really amazing... I am so glad that Green Day are back! There are so many songs left and we heard just Oh Love and LYG and we are already done! I have a really good mud today because I got an A for calculus and after that I watched this video I was blown away... I am very happy for fans and people who are around them! This trilogy is unique point in their career
DannyDirnt Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Let yourself go, let yourself go, let yourself go-ooo! I can't get it out of my head!!! Same, I have been singing "Let yourself go, let yourself go, let yourself go-ooo" all the freaking day! Also, I'm so glad everyone likes this! Those people who critisized Green Day for their style in AI-21CB are now happy! I wonder if now we'll get a new generation of haters who want "old-school" GD back to their 2004-09 style
drugstore hooligan Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Been listening to it all day. Thought id share my thoughts on it. To sum it up in two words....... Boner acheived.
Schlappy Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 when i first heard let your self go i thought it was about just cutting lose and not being so serious, but when i stopped jumping around and actually listened to the lyrics i realized "let yourself go" can mean get over yourself. ahhh i love when that happens
Hermione Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Oh my fucking god . This song is orgasmic. "Shut your mouth cuz you're talking too much and I don't give a fuck anyway!", "Let yourself gooo, let yourself gooo, let yourself goooooo!" x 100, Billie's snarky voice, the excessive "fucking"s in the middle , the guitar solo, the drums at the end. Fucking perfection! I'm gonna pass out when I hear the studio version. Off to listen to it a few hundred more times.
InsideOut Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Oh my god, I can't stop listening to it. Such a great song! It makes me happy that almost everyone seems to be enjoying the song too. I mean, it's just nice to read through a thread with so many positive comments (and comments about you guys jizzing).
RedDay Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Awesome tho i thought nucleaur family was going to be the first single instead of (oh love) but thats before i nu they were making 3 albums and i thought it was just gonna b one called nuclear family awesome song name btw Oh my god, I can't stop listening to it. I mean, it's just nice to read through a thread with so many positive comments (and comments about you guys jizzing). Yea i mean its a pumpass song so u cant really go wrong unlike oh love which us a good song but is expected to have critisisems cuz if its more poppy mellow feel
Sanity Loan Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 i luv wen ppl dont tipe words corectly nd shorten them nd dont uze punctuation
deadair Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Kickass song! But is it just me, or does the opening drum beat sound a little like Maria?
Red Lights Flash Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Kickass song! But is it just me, or does the opening drum beat sound a little like Maria? Yes. But to be fair, it's a really simple, standard drum beat.
Whatsername_the13 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 This song is just awesome as fuck *.* I like it even more than Oh Love!!! And I mean, I love "Oh Love"! So there isn't a word to describe what I think about "Let yourself go", it's just too awesome!
ChelseaDagger Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 HOLY SWEET FUCK!!!!!! I LOVE I LOVE I LOVE I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's like I've been taken back in time of nimrod-y Green Day awesomeness!! GAH! Words cannot express my delight with this song!!!!!!!!! Let yourself go, let yourself go, let yourself goo-oooo LOVE!
PaulS Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Man, this is two songs in a row I'm not fond of. I'm getting worried about the whole trilogy now Let Yourself Go is certainly a burst of energy, and I think it will work okay as a palette-cleansing album track. On its own, however, it inherits some of the problems of Oh Love and doesn't fix those of Christian's Inferno. The verses have a nice stomp to them, the solo is good (if predictably placed), and - as Hermione and everyone else said - I love the "Shut your mouth..." breakdown. Great attitude, lot of fun. But the chorus! Argh. This is everything I hated about Christian's Inferno. "Wwooooaaaahhhh, Christian's Inferno. Wwooooaaaahhhh, Christian's Inferno. Wwooooaaaahhhh, Christian's Inferno" is now "Let yourself gooooo, Let yourself gooooo, Let yourself gooooo. Let yourself gooooo, Let yourself gooooo, Let yourself gooooo" on and on, until you can't take it anymore. It's not so bad the first time, but when they get around to repeating it twelve times at the end, you've had enough. This is a sub-2 minute song, stretched to nearly 4. If they're going to do these kind of tracks, they need to just get in and out, not fuck about repeating a one-line chorus for eternity. As was the case with Oh Love, someone - anyone - needed to step in and do some editing. They didn't, and it's starting to become a pattern.
deletethisaccount Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I do like the song Oh Love and all, it's just that this is 10x better. I don't think I have a single complaint about Let Yourself Go. I love the lyrics in this. They're just stab after stab. They just fill me with energy! One of the most punk songs they've written since nimrod.
desertrose Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 This is awesome! This is just fantastic to listen too! Reminds me of when I first saw them when they were starting out in the 90's. Love the energy. Love the 90's Green Day.
