kerplunk_chick Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Amy sounds so great! And they've put a lot of thought into the endings of these albums, "tonight my heart's on the loose" leads to the party album that ends with a sadder song which leads to the reflective album. I love that they did that. It's like, even when they aren't making a concept album, their albums tell a story of sorts. Even if the 'story line' is actually just a great flow of emotions.
Asa. Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I'm not hearing the bass and strings in Amy...hmmm
Yojimbo Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I'm a bit disappointed with the production/sound design on "Amy"... I know it supposed to be an intimate, emotional song but it sounds just empty In my opinion, that is exactly the beauty of it. Stripped down to vocals, guitar and bass. It sounds so... haunting.
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I'm not hearing the bass and strings in Amy...hmmm I was waiting to hear those! It probably comes in later in the song.
WalkingContradictionPL Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Who wants to hear 'Amy'? http://www.etonline....Clip/index.html Oh God... This song is beautiful. However, after hearing it, I'm a bit scared of Lindsay
Yojimbo Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Oh God... This song is beautiful. However, after hearing it, I'm a bit scared of Lindsay Why? I don't watch CSI but it says that a little girl named 'Amy' was shot. No mention of a Lindsay.
Schlappy Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Hey, you are in the US, right? If so, can you watch the preview here http://www.cbs.com/f...NOT2fBJq/csi_ny and tell if it is the same one as the youtube video posted above? its an extension of the preview above but the new part doesnt have GD in it anyways, just dialog. youre not missing anything
iScottie Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Amy sounds great. I can't wait to hear more!
Sanity Loan Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I'm a bit disappointed with the production/sound design on "Amy"... I know it supposed to be an intimate, emotional song but it sounds just empty I bet it being in mono on the CSI video doesn't help you there. Once we get the actual track, and in stereo, it'll sound much better.
WalkingContradictionPL Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Why? I don't watch CSI but it says that a little girl named 'Amy' was shot. No mention of a Lindsay. I don't know why I'm anxious. My feelings can be sometimes weird and I know about it.
Irrlicht Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I'm a little bit disappointed because of a few previews for Dos!. They did chance Billie's voice in "Amy" so much. The same in Wild one, Stray Heart, (Sweet 16). Sorry I really dislike this type of music. Don't understand me wrong, i've been fan since 6 years and I really love Green Day but these songs are too soft (and to be serious:Drama queen is . 12-year old girlies might like this....) Well I'm sure, Fuck time, Lady Cobra etc. will shape the true Dos!
Dori_Epiphone Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I can´t resist Oh this is so great! CAN`T WAIT TO HEAR THE FULL SONG ! Heather. Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I have to say I was hoping the vocals on Amy would sound like Good Riddance (super raw and clear), so it was a bit jarring to hear that thing that they did to his voice on a lot of the Uno songs (filter, whatever it's called)... it's just ever-so-slightly distracting. My own fault for growing too fond of the live version we have, and hoping for that raw emotion to come through... it's still beautiful though, and I agree has a unique haunting quality.

Well I'm sure, Fuck time, Lady Cobra etc. will shape the true Dos! What do you mean when you say you "dislike this type of music"? Which type of music? All those songs are fairly different - Wild One has an eerie, haunted quality reminiscent of Creep by Radiohead, Stray Heart is a little faster with a kind of Motown groove behind its poppy sheen, Sweet 16 is melodic and sentimental with sweet falsetto and a kind of older feel (it reminds me of something, but I have no idea what. Maybe the...... Beach Boys? No? I have no idea). Amy is minimalistic and kind of angelic (and makes me think of Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah), and Drama Queen - well, it was acoustic and simplistic, but who knows how it may have changed and how it will end up sounding on the record. All of these songs are pretty diverse, but they do all represent the more emotional, slower, "soft" portion of the albums. You can also consider other songs that are more upbeat (and possibly more to your taste) - Fuck Time is Foxboro-y, fun, and carefree. Nightlife is creepy, grimy, icky, and features a sort of rap by Lady Cobra. Speaking of, Lady Cobra is fast and kind of psychedelic and also pretty garage-y. Then there's Makeout Party and Stop When The Red Lights Flash (both more uptempo and fun), plus Lazy Bones (lovely and comparable to Give Me Novacaine apparently) - all just on Dos. I think you shouldn't be too discouraged or worried. Dos sounds like it's going to be rather varied and will have a good balance of fast vs slow songs, and sentimental vs carefree or slightly crude songs. It seems that Green Day is giving us as many different flavors as possible (without sounding totally confused and all over the place), and there should be something for everyone to enjoy, even if other songs may not resonate with us quite us much. Plus, maybe the songs you don't like at first will grow on you.
germanfuzaloo Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Very curious which songs will be used. I hope they will make use of one of the more delicate songs like Amy or Drama Queen Called it.

Yeah, this is concerning to me too. It almost makes me think they made up for Billie Joe recording the vocals so quick by just slapping a filter on the best take.

I was expecting the exact same thing. It took me 4 listens to get into the studio recording because I was not too fond on the huge delay effect on the vocals. But still it is hard to deny that this is a beautiful song. I'm slightly "annoyed" with that effect being on so many songs that we've heard so far. Mainly because I know it would sound really great without it. But I'm sure I can get used to it. We never should have listened to the live version It made the impact of hearing the final version slightly less powerful
Guest Trotsky Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Personally , I love the vocals... Amy it's just.....BEAUTIFUL song...

Nzap Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Whoa, Amy sounds so metallic. Surprised by the effects they used there. And what's up with the lullaby part? it sounds so off key.
