...Okay I googled and it's weirdly Californian based if I'm looking at the right one. So...I'm confused. Possibilites: A typo - they put the wrong label by mistake / A bad joke about how Green Day are being fearless with UDT :D haha / Fearless records will have a hand in it somehow alongside Reprise / Reprise has bought Fearless Records / Green Day is releasing it solely through Fearless.

 Well I'm assuming it's that they'll have a hand in it but I wonder why...

Anyone have any ideas?

I kind of feel like the article was based around two or three answers the band gave. He just took all the political answers they'd given, which wasn't many, and wrote a full page article around it. There's probably two or three 'quotes' by the band in the whole thing. So yeah, my guess is they got as much material as possible and will churn it out in as many articles as possible over the coming months.

I don't get the 'fearless' thing either, though

I just went through the Kerrang article, and I did not like it at all.

There are so many things bothering me about how it is written and the stupid questions that were asked. And the Fearless thing just adds to the vagueness.

I'm dissapointed

Okay, I've just read the K! article... it has one good thing for sure: the photo of the boys.

I didn't like the way this interviewer is in some way "accusing" the band of deprive american people of their jobs. I mean, what does that have to do with the music? I think the last thing people do when they buy a t-shirt or whatever is look where has been made. I'm not saying his point it's not an important thing at all, no, but c'mon... Is it gonna change something putting the band in an uncomfortable place when they're actually there to talk about their records and not about things they can hardly know?

It has been confirmed several times that the albums are coming out via Reprise/Warner.

If you read the other articles in this week's Kerrang or previous articles by this author I'm sure you'll find a band which is on Fearless Records. Probably this editor just copied that last line, changed the band name, date and album name and just forgot to change the label. At least that seems likely, but if anyone got another idea..

If they release the album on Fearless Records, that would mean that Kerrang actually got some news we didn't know yet, and that's totally impossible

:P

Thanks so much for the scans (and for including the Muse bit :D)! I'll add them to the OP (and then read them )

I don't think the shirt question was that invalid :ninja: I don't blame the band for the change, because, as others have said, those decisions are made totally separate from the band. But it is something to be made aware of.

I think I ordered this.

I dont remember the magazine lol It was $11

The question was maybe to make the band aware of the situation, but what the editor wrote, after Billie's reaction, where he tells the readers to be sure to check their merchandise on their coming tour is kind of accusing them. Because if they haven't changed their merchandise deal, the editor is silently hinting that it actually IS the band's responsibility after he made them aware.

Which, I think, is a really stupid point to make.

I don't think the point is invalid at all, but there was no need to actually put it in the article. Not only does it make the band look bad for something they have no control over, but it's kind of irrelevant anyway.

Another page of 99% Kerrang rambling and 1% Green Day actually speaking. 0% news of course.

why would you think that the band have no say in their merchandising? I have always assumed that the band would have a say in all areas of the business, even if they don`t get their own way all the time! A band as popular as they are can have a huge amount of say in all areas, if they are interested enough, and I would assume that these guys would. I have always thought that they would be involved to some extent just because of their personal beliefs in social issues and their own integrity.

Maybe they will take a closer look at it, now that they are aware of it.

But when a company can get a cheaper deal somewhere else, there is no way to convince it to stick with the more expensive deal just to save jobs in their own country, even if it will make a huge difference spread over many years.

All they care about is to put as much money in their pocket for as long as that system works. But once the country where they manufacture their stuff for a cheaper price gains a higher standard and the production ceases to be cheaper, they will probably move it back to their own country. But then they have to start building up again from scratch, meaning that the jobs they make available will be quite underpaid for a while until the company and it's production is settled again.

That's how fucked up the economy works.

I feel like tshirts and hoodies and things are made cheaper to sell for a higher price so they can in return, in a round about way, keep the ticket prices as low as possible, but probably not.

Posted

Maybe they have a say in it if they want to (I wouldn't know, I have no reason to), but it's not something that would generally be brought to their attention. Great if it was, but printing it in the article like that was still a bit unnecessary.

Glad I asked my nan to get me Kerrang! while I'm in Spain, I hate missing good articles like that. Looks like an interesting read :)

...oh. Screw my excitement then.

I'm so tired of people asking Billie how they "stay punk" after all these years. I feel like he's answered the question of what punk rock means way too many times. I like what Beej said in the NME article about it though. it definitely has become a convoluted term. it annoys me that on the cover or whatever the magazine flaunts the "ST1LL PUNXXX" thing but then in the article Billie says they're doing what they think is punk rock. it doesn't really match up quite right.

Just got the Kerrang magazine in the mail!

Oh yeah I read these. The NME article's cool, some interesting tidbits and I just love hearing them talk about the new albums. Kerrang, eh, the question about merchandise itself would be OK if it was part of a proper decent lengthed interview but making a whole article out of it is pretty lame. Seems like they hardly had any actual quotes/info from the band about the new albums so they decided to spin that bit out and try and make it "controversial" instead.

Could someone post that NME article please? I some how have missed it/can't find it.

Oh my god Mike's face in the Pandora comic

Should've checked the OP :P

I bought the NME but I didn't buy Kerrang even though I wanted the poster because the article pissed me off so much.

 I did get a bit over excited/suspicious with that. Yeah, I'd say it was just a typo.
