In fact, QOTSA would be a better analogy, because less people know about that, and pretty much no one outside of the Green Day fanbase even know The Boo existed.

Not to say I don't do the same thing when I play live....just sayin....

The dudes in Green Day obviously are familiar with much of the rock and pop canons since they're, like, mega old and have been playing music for a while. As occurs, Green Day occasionally lifts riffs, licks, or melodies from other songs and appropriates them for their own use. Let's talk about those instances. Here are a few that initially come to mind: 1. A lot of the melody and chord structure of "Fell for You" comes from "Postcards from Paradise" by Flesh for Lulu. This isn't super surprising as Paul Westerberg, one of Billie Joe's favorites, covered the song on his 2002 album Stereo. "Postcards from Paradise" by Flesh for Lulu: http://youtu.be/5J3ZjxIQgFE 2. The chorus of 21 Guns is really similar to the chorus of All The Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople. The piano intro from Isolation by John Lennon is almost the same as the one from Last Night On Earth. And the last one is more personal, I've always thought One For The Razorbacks slightly sounds like We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister
