how....can you possibly make a clean version of "American Idiot"???? What the hell is going on??

Goes like:

Don't wanna be an American idiot

Don't want a nation under the new media

And can you hear the sound of hysteria

The subliminal mind America!

And then somehow America takes it as a positive song about them. (didnt actually happen, just assuming)

Am I the only one a little alarmed and uncomfortable with them having a Walmart exclusive single ep?

(I haven't been posted in ages, just lurking, so sorry if this has been discussed) This does not feel right to me.

Especially after what was said during 21CB. Why the sudden change?

School, work and some other personal circumstances has kept me really busy...have I missed an article or an interview where they talk about this?

I think it's great that the guys stood up to censorship with 21stCB, but in the end, that's a losing battle for them. Walmart is the largest retailer in the United States. By eliminating album sales that could have been generated by having the album on those shelves, they kind of shot themselves in the foot. With the three records being released, the label is obviously gonna wanna sell as much as possible. Yes, the guys do music because it's their passion and not for sales, but it's a business. They can't keep going if they don't sell. So by making "nice" with Walmart, I think they are making the right decision in that sense. Fans will know where to buy the true, unaltered version of the music and people who prefer censored versions aren't completely thrown away from the potential audience.

Can someone PM me the Mp3 of the EP?

Me too :D

We can't do that.

The funny thing is that American Idiot wasn't at WalMart either and look at it's sales numbers...

That's true. They were ruling the world back then though...

Yay! I just looked up where my copy of the EP that I ordered is, and it's at the post office. Gonna go pick it up in a few hours.

I'm excited even though it's a fucking stupid EP. I just like collecting that type of stuff.

Got my CD in the mail just now.

It's not even non-chalant, muted-style censoring. It's full on beeping.

"Well maybe I'm the BEEPot America"

:D

edit to add: BoBD is muted censored. Not all hope is lost.

I got the "Oh Love" EP delivered today. The bonus tracks are not live like we originally thought. And they're the clean versions...

I suppose that's why Walmart is selling it then. haha

Oh god, what a useless EP. Still a really cool thing to have for a collection, although I have no idea why.

instead that it's "don't want a nation under the new mania", not "media" ;D

...and yeah a clean version of it is just boring...unless Billie sings a "beep" by himself  (like he did on Broadway)

People are brainwashed by Rock Band.

As you said, "Mania" has always been the word. I have no idea how Rock Band fucked it up.

Yea, for some reason many lyric sites had "idiot nation" instead of "alienation" and "media" instead of "mania".

I have no idea why, cause the booklet and the video where they show the lyrics by pieces of paper state clearly that it's "alienation" and "mania"

I admit that I thought that it was "media" as well until I read the booklet of the album.

Enough OT, don't you think guys? :D

yeah it's weird...i always knew that it's "alienation" but i always thought it's "media" (well, till about half a year ago) ..it's weird, cos i usually learn the lyircs with the help of the booklets and there stands "mania", dunno, probably i'm too dumb to read

and yeah agree :D

I understand that they need revenue to be able to keep producing music, but it feels like they're going back on what they preached. I'm not as concerned with Wal-Mart as with the concept of making a "clean" album. Green Day always seemed to take the standpoint that they wouldn't change themselves to be what other people wanted. Censoring yourself after years of saying "fuck you" to people who didn't like what the band did just doesn't feel right. Billie's letter to that lady after Dookie came out, the whole Wal-Mart 21CB deal...after 20-some years, why cave in now?

Listened for the second time as I viewed it's music video and it occurs to me that this song must have no live appeal whatsoever.

hmm... its not a really fast song that every one can dance to and get crazy but the lyrics are pretty simple and people can sing along...

I've seen it played at the Tiki Bar and at the Echoplex... trust me, it's better live.

I heard it on my local radio station just on a random turn on the dial! It had this odd edit where it started straight when Billie's vocals kicked in, but I turned that shit up LOUD!
