solongfromthestars Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Japanese interview talking about Oh Love and a bit about Summer Sonic Thanks a lot for posting! Oh god, Tre at the end... Billie's reaction is priceless.
DecanoLP Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 "There'll be a lot of old songs too." Fuck yeah. Let's hope they keep playing the real old songs (pre Dookie).
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 "We haven't shot the video for Oh Love yet, but it will really reflect the mood of the song." Good answer, Billie! I still know as much as I did before about the video, haha! Also, I like how Tré is like "We want to be inside of you, Japan." Long delay. Then Billie finally laughs. It's funny. Thanks for the interview, Mercury!
valeriesername Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Tre: "We love you Japan! ...Green Day wants to be inside of you, Japan..." *silence*
Annie, get your gun Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 I don't know why, but every time the chorus starts "Far away, far away..." I crack up with laughter I found it so damn funny, but I love it never get tired of it!

Heather. Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I know there was some confusion with Green Day supposedly debuting at #1 on the Rock Airplay charts on Billboard but not in actual sales... I'm still somewhat confused about this, but it appears they're actually on the real charts now, so for whatever that means... fuck yeah! http://www.billboard.com/charts/rock-songs#/charts/rock-songs

I'm still somewhat confused about this, but it appears they're actually on the real charts now, so for whatever that means... fuck yeah! http://www.billboard...arts/rock-songs I believe this chart is radio plays and not sales. Because in the Billboard article from earlier this week, it mentioned radio plays and 145 stations reporting. And there's no way it'd be sales because it's barely in the top 200 on iTunes and #40 on Amazon
Heather. Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Then is Airplay valued more than Sales charts? Because the homepage of Billboard.com has Green Day in their main banner on top...
Sanity Loan Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Then is Airplay valued more than Sales charts? Because the homepage of Billboard.com has Green Day in their main banner on top... How does the band being in the top banner suggest sales are more important?
Heather. Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 How does the band being in the top banner suggest sales are more important? What I was saying was that if Green Day is only ranking in airplay not sales, I find it curious that Billboard would put them on the top banner.
Edwood Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 All the genre charts base their rankings on airplay. The Hot 100 is based on airplay, sales, and streaming activity.
DannyDirnt Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Worst will probably be Carpe Diem...... Never say that again. Ever.
1039SweetChildren Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Then is Airplay valued more than Sales charts? Because the homepage of Billboard.com has Green Day in their main banner on top... For the rock chart -- yes, because there are less stations reporting than, say, pop music. In order for the song to make a dent on the Billboard 100, however, it'd have to sell A LOT more and maybe even crossover to other markets beyond rock stations, as songs like Boulevard of Broken Dreams did.
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Never say that again. Ever. Haha, we'll find out in September which one will be the "worst." I'm just basing that on what I've heard from the secret show songs. Of the 4 songs I heard, this was easily my least favorite. I just didn't really like it. Sorry

I think I like it more than Nuclear Family actually, but I can't really tell because I listened to it just once and I only remember me thinking it wasn't that good. Anyway I was just joking, I accept every opinion though I don't agree.
Guest As Good As It Gets Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Here we go, another generic single. Haven't heard a song off the new albums that genuinely interests me, I'm probably one of the only few here who think that though
Heather. Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Here we go, another generic single. Haven't heard a song off the new albums that genuinely interests me, I'm probably one of the only few here who think that though I think most Green Day songs are generic Green Day, with few standout exceptions. I think a lot of us like generic Green Day, that is, "typical" Green Day songs, which is what this is. Sure, we also live for the rare feat in JOS or something totally unique like Longview, but after the exhaustive concept album that was 21CB, it's nice to experience generic GD again. I have confidence that the more "interesting" songs are yet to come. Kill the DJ is sure to be funky, and after reading the recent interview with Rob Cavallo, man oh man... Uno might not be your favorite, but I have a feeling it will be solid and every successive album will be even more spectacular.
Met Fan Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Just broke my "hear nothing before the entire album comes out" vow and checked out Oh Love. I think Oh Love is simply a worse choice of first single than Know Your Enemy was, I know I didn't think that possible either. At best I'd accept this song from Green Day as a b-side that doesn't even make it to the album. It's boring, repetitive and uninspired IMO. But as usual Green Day gets as many chances as they need to grow on me, that band has earned that right. I won't listen to it anymore until the album comes out and hopefully it will sound better in the context of the album. One thing that won't change is that this is a really bad choice of first single, a weak start and a weak representation to the new album. I don't think this song will even get mainstream appeal, if that was the idea.

I think you'd probably benefit from listening to Let Yourself Go now, a lot of people's fears were eased with that track.
solongfromthestars Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I think 90% of the reason most people hated Oh Love is because they were expecting a Let Yourself Go, which it wasn't. I don't think it would have got so many of the reactions it did if it hadn't been the first thing they heard from the trilogy. So give LYG a listen, you'll feel better.
Hermione Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Oh Love is the last track on the album so it's not gonna smack you in the face, it's normal to have a less up-tempo song to round off an album. Plenty of other songs on there will smack you in the face though I'm sure, if Let Yourself Go is anything to go by!
Annie, get your gun Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I still don't understand why is so many people unhappy with Oh Love as first single (as they were with KYE)... I mean, what do you expect? This 3 records are from a new era (which has just started), we shouldn't be comparing it with the other albums 'cause it's not same. I'm not saying "why don't you like Oh Love, you have to love it", but this is what the trilogy is all about, new energy, a different point of view... and have fun. Deal with it and let yourself go!
solongfromthestars Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Today I made a playlist of just this song and Let Yourself Go, and I can honestly say that I don't have a favourite. Comparing them is like saying Metallica are crap because they don't sound like Lady Gaga. They're both great - but completely different - songs, for different moods and moments. But they're proof of how Green Day doesn't always have to be the same thing, they can do whatever they want and succeed in it. I'm by no means saying that anyone has to like both, but I don't think either is a "better" song. They just both might not fit every person's music tastes, fortunately for me they do.
