Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 It's the intro single. I don't think it's intended to be a top seller, it's just intended to say "hey y'all, Green Day's back and they're doing something new". Let's suppose for the sake of argument that Oh Love turns out to be the worst song on the trilogy, whatever one means by "worst". The whole thing's still going to be awesome. I know, but still, I was hoping that the first complete song I'd hear from the album would blow me away. Hoping they'd come back with this freaking amazing song. Maybe it's because I've only heard a few other songs and I liked those better (Stay the Night and Stray Heart, particularly, can't remember any others. Though I haven't listened to Stay the Night in like a year. I hope I still like it ) that I'm not terribly impressed with Oh Love, or maybe it's because I'm not as obsessed with and invested in Green Day as I was with 21stCB where I loved everything they brought out. I don't know. And if Oh Love is the worst then it must be a great album, but it could also be one of the better songs. But I'm hoping they're just continuing the Know Your Enemy thing where the first single is, in my opinion, one of the lesser songs of the album That said, I'm not at all denouncing Uno! or the trilogy based on this one single song, not at all, nor am I saying this is a bad song.

Oh Love will never be the worst in my opinion - more like my very favorite! Worst will probably be Carpe Diem......
Ritz Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I like Oh Love. The word worst associated with the song hurts me ! x(
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Worst will probably be Carpe Diem...... Given what they've done with Oh Love since the Tiki Bar and Red 7 shows, I'm eager to see what happened to Carpe Diem in the studio!
The Pedestrian Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Am I the only one who really liked Carpe Diem? It’s the one song I’ve listened too from the secret shows and I think it’s really cool. Its message is really relevant to the band at this point in their careers and I think the guitar in the “making a living”/whatever bit is really cool. And I bet it will have a kick-ass solo too... Besides, it’s silly to slag it off before hearing the final thing.

Oh Love didn't blow me away on the crappy recordings either, so I'm sure all of them sound so much more awesome on the albums.
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Given what they've done with Oh Love since the Tiki Bar and Red 7 shows, I'm eager to see what happened to Carpe Diem in the studio! Maybe I just don't know what to listen for, but it seemed like Oh Love was basically the same at the secret shows as it is now. I don't hear any major differences.... Not to talk about Carpe Diem in the Oh Love thread too much, but if it changes as much as people say Oh Love did, then I probably just won't like it very much. Or it will really have to grow on me. What I heard last year was a little underwhelming, imo.
Heather. Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I'm truly confused by the recent Billboard.com article that says Oh Love debuted at #1 on the Rock Songs. If you look at their charts, it's not even on it. The charts have definitely been updated because the Killers' new song Runaways came out on July 17th, and that's on the charts. If you look at the Wiki page for Runaways, it says it's at #22 on Billboard Rock Songs, which corresponds to the Billboard charts. But "Oh Love" is supposedly #1? http://www.billboard...arts/rock-songs Anyone understand how this works? The article saying Oh Love was #1 also mentioned that it was based on airplay and listens, not necessarily purchases...

Said it so much better I'd hate to misquote it.

I don't hear any major differences.... I've said this already earlier in this thread, but here is a quick recap. 1. Get a set of good headphones/earbuds. 2. Put them on. Crank the volume. 3. Listen to the Oh Love downloadable single (not the YouTube video, the single) through them. 4. All will become clear, my grasshopper.
WalkingContradictionPL Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I listen to Rihanna and I think it's a great song. You don't have to stick to one music genre. He also listens to The Beatles, but now he had his midle-life crisis and he listens more to pop than rock. I just miss my childhood when we together sat in living room, he took a vinyl and we listend to Slade, The Beatles or Pink Floyd. I thought he would like Oh Love. Am I the only one who really liked Carpe Diem? It’s the one song I’ve listened too from the secret shows and I think it’s really cool. I hoped that Carpe Diem will be the forst single I can say that I'm a bit addcited to Oh Love. Acording to my last.fm I've listen to it 175 times on my pc and phone, stereo system isn't in it inlcuded.
Heather. Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 achin' to be explained it on the previous page. Said it so much better I'd hate to misquote it. O I C (Though it was Alan86 who explained it and then hurt Andres' feelings... and mine too, now)... but I agree with whoever said it's been advertised to Green Day fans and no one else probably knows about it. It'll be interesting to see how the music video changes that, if at all. I think it deserves to be a hit beyond Green Day fans.

Maybe that's what the next single is aiming for, to involve the masses outside the fan-dome?
Alan86 Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 O I C (Though it was Alan86 who explained it and then hurt Andres' feelings... and mine too, now) Didn't mean to hurt any feelings It explains at the bottom of the article that it has actually sold very little in it's opening week. The No Doubt Single sold 5 times as much as Oh Love and that didn't even make it in to the top 50.
Karen. Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Don't singles usually climb the charts in the US as opposed to debuting at the top like in the UK/Ireland?

That does not really answer the question to anyone who does not have the downloadable single I'm also not really hearing any differences between the Red7 version and the recorded (youtube) version. Unless your point is that it's higher quality, in which case the song has not changed at all, and your point is not a point at all. Or the point could be that in the studio version there aren't any people talking through the song. Which, I have to admit, is a major difference, but probably not what you were aiming at. and excuse me if I don't go through 42 pages of discussion to find one particular post.

I was going to get straight to the point here and point out the point he was trying to make but I do not remember which point it was. This was a pointless post!

Oh Love sounds superb. But what are the differences? I still don't get it. I'll just have to go compare them again. I haven't done that since last week. (I'm not being a good grasshopper, haha! That does not really answer the question to anyone who does not have the downloadable single I'm also not really hearing any differences between the Red7 version and the recorded (youtube) version. blitzkriegdeb Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Rock music as a whole just isn't popular right now. I can't even tell you the last time I heard a rock band on any pop stations or anything like that. It, sadly, doesn't really surprise me Oh Love isn't doing good on the charts right now given what's considered popular music these days.
Ritz Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Music that is popular nowadays is a pain in the ears to be honest. Yeah in such circumstances, chances of Oh Love doing well in the charts is very slim. I don't care about the charts as far as I'm enjoying the song !
Sixtrix Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 It's sad that according to the general audience and radio stations Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry are the best artists to offer music around this time. With that kind if bullshit it's clear that the music industry is kind of beyond repair.

That's why we love internet, don't we? Oh love is a good song for me, I don't care about general audience
