Yeah, the first time I blasted it, and I heard Billie kind of inhale some air, I was like, "Whoa, what?" It's pretty cool and refreshing. Even on the Lookout records you don't really get him... breathing :creep:

Chris Dugan and Jingletown. That's all that matters. :)

The production on this is definitely different, like with the vocals. You can hear everything, like when he takes a breath or licks his lips or whatever. It's interesting to say the least

Woah, just noticed that.

There's a finnish radio station called YleX and Oh Love is currently number 37 on their top-list. They've played the song just three times on this week and it's already on top-list, so I think it's pretty well.

I ended up making the radio edit version I heard the other day:

I actually think the "Oh Love" coming in right after the solo sounds good.

Changes:

1) Song starts immediately with vocals

2) Vocals come immediately after the solo ends

3) Last chorus is cut in half

That's a great edit, to be honest! Good job  I wish the radio stations here would play Oh Love..

Really nice job, especially with the cut from the solo to the vocals

I noticed Billie's breath before start singing too, I like it  But this isn't the first song where you can actually hear that. :ermm: I heard it in Homecoming, and a noise that he makes with his lips or something. Really cool details I love to hear :shy:

I noticed that, and when I showed my friend the song he pointed out that breathing/opening mouth sound is normally edited out, which he said means there is probably very little auto-tune and editing done.

billie doesnt really like auto tune theres an accousic version of wake me up when setember ends and he goes a little of key i think he was crying but i cant tell...

Green Day in full power-ballad mode, and it... doesn't entirely work.

Positives:

- The whole chorus into solo section is great, and the one section where the song comes alive.

- It's a fresh sound they haven't tried before, and certainly nothing that would have been on either of the last two albums.

Negatives:

- Almost completely nonsensical lyrics

- The verses seem to have lead boots on. No energy whatsoever.

- Holy autotune, Batman. 2m 57 in particular.

- The official lyrics video is appalling, even as a placeholder. Not only does it draw attention to those lyrics, but it has all the design nuance of a 5 year old who ate his crayons.

I dunno, it grows on you after repeated play, but this doesn't feel like it's going to make as big an impact in the charts as Warner are hoping. It doesn't have the energy and impact of their faster stuff, nor the sentiment of their slower songs like 21 Guns. It feels like an anthemic album closer, but it's exactly that: an album track. Whichever way I look at it, this feels like a misstep :S

this is ALMOST EXACTLY how I feel about this song, except I thought most of 21st Century Breakdown pretty much sucked haha. I can say I really only liked 5 songs on that album.

This is exactly why I love it. Not so much because I can hear him licking his lips or whatever, just love the production on the vocals.

Every one of my friend's who have heard it, have said how great Billie's voice is in this song. And I think it is really cool that it doesn't seem super chopped up like usual and we can hear every little thing.

it has grown on me after several plays, but it doesn't really leave a huge impact. it isn't really the type of song i'd like to hear as a first single. though surely a massive belting song will be released just before the album comes out; it's just too early to give it now.

It's just so lovely. I find it playing in the backround of my mind all the time, and when I become conscious of it and I become so fucking impulsed to sing it out, it's blissful. It somehow doesn't matter that I'm singing 'waste away tonight', the spirit of this song is golden.

Today my mother yelled at me when I turned the song off in the middle  (I was just toying with my iPhone) I was about to leave, but she wouldn't let me until the song was over.

The moms, they love it!

Y'know, that's really strange you bring that up. I was in the car with my iPod plugged in and my mom asked to hear the new Green Day single. She's not really a fan and only likes Holiday and Good Riddance but I figured I'd let her hear it. Anyway, when it was over she asked me to play it again. And again after that. I was so amazing that she actually liked something of theirs!

So yep. Moms love it.

This is so true! My mom and aunt both really like it! Oh Love keeps getting stuck in my mom's head.

That's amazing, it actually wakes up some hidden Green Day passion in our moms :)

Haha, great! Funny, I have a somewhat similar story. My door was open and I was playing Oh Love so my mom could also hear it while she was in the attic. She came down, walked into my room and started singing along! It was the first time she heard it. I told her it was Green Day's new song, and the said "Oh nice! Sounds great! It reminds me of a song but Idk which one.." and she walked away, still singing along  Not really of course, but apparently the chorus is so catchy that she was just doing the "far away.." thing. I was surprised.

Now who said Oh Love wasn't a good first single? :P

So my mom is the only one who likes many songs by Green Day but hates Oh Love?

She says she likes them more on the upbeat and faster songs. But then again her favorite song is WMUWSE :P

My mom likes different songs by Green Day, but her favorites are mostly the singles. I'm not sure how much she likes Oh Love, but I let her hear it once and she said she liked it.

It's funny how different people find Oh Love a rather slow song, only (I assume) because they all expected a faster song to be the first single. (I'm not accusing your mom of that petros! I just think that may be the reason why the song is seen as a very slow song by most people)
