DannyDirnt Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Oh Love is currently #58 on iTunes and #10 on the alternative section in the U.S. OMG that's brilliant already! The single has only been out for almost 24h!
farley drexel hatcher Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I think I underestimated this song yesterday. My god it's catchy, with perfect little melodies that stuck in your head like glue.
sampy Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 my favorite radio station needed almost 24 hours to realize that gd has a new single. shame on them. Two big radio stations here in Finland played it immediately after the release, and another one of those, Finland's biggest rock-based station Radio Rock played it again today. That station plays a lot of Green Day.

GuitarPunk94 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 wow. i'm impressed. but german radio stations are strange. here in germany gd isn't often played in the radio :/ i asked the most popular and famous radio station in my area when they will play Oh Love..today they answered me that they dont know when this song will be released to public :DDD
WhatserKinx Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Does anyone else keep anticipating the 'chomp chomp chomp' noise at the solo part from the preview or is it just me? Yeah, I keep doing that too --------- I'm getting really impatient with UK itunes right now, I need this song on my iPod!!
JDookie Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Of course its not playing on TV, theres no music video for it yet Actually an Italian radiotelevision played it today. The video was a mix of older videos, mainly Boulevard of Broken Dreams and American Idiot, but there was the Hybrid Moments one, too Don't know if someone already mentioned it, but on ebay there are 4 copies of Oh Love (single/EP) to preorder, and in the description it says: "Oh Love" is the first to single to be taken from Green Day's forthcoming '¡Uno!' album, the first of their '¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré!' album trilogy. While the album does not come out until late September, an exclusive EP to be released on August 14, 2012 will feature the single along with a number of other tracks that have yet to be announced. 18 $ That's great thanks for posting! Just a few days after my b-day, it's perfect

Lindsay Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 After listening to Oh Love more than a few times now, I really do think it's a perfect choice for an album closer, even though we haven't heard the rest of the album yet. Not fast, but not slow either. The whole "tonight, my heart's on the loose" seems like a really good way to lead into Dos, even though we don't know what the first track of Dos will be yet. This might just be me thinking out loud, not sure if anyone else agrees, or if this has already been discussed.
Todd Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 It's just beautiful to think that somewhere out there is a kid (or grown-up ) who has never heard Green Day before, and they fall in love with this song, and unknowingly stumble into the great songs and albums of the past 20 years. I'm so jealous of them! That was me 8 years ago. I can still remember the feeling of stumbling across new material every week. "what? Another album? Sweet!" Don't know if someone already mentioned it, but on ebay there are 4 copies of Oh Love (single/EP) to preorder, and in the description it says: "Oh Love" is the first to single to be taken from Green Day's forthcoming '¡Uno!' album, the first of their '¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré!' album trilogy. AnnA™ Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Green Day in full power-ballad mode, and it... doesn't entirely work. Positives: - The whole chorus into solo section is great, and the one section where the song comes alive. - It's a fresh sound they haven't tried before, and certainly nothing that would have been on either of the last two albums. Negatives: - Almost completely nonsensical lyrics - The verses seem to have lead boots on. No energy whatsoever. - Holy autotune, Batman. 2m 57 in particular. - The official lyrics video is appalling, even as a placeholder. Not only does it draw attention to those lyrics, but it has all the design nuance of a 5 year old who ate his crayons. I dunno, it grows on you after repeated play, but this doesn't feel like it's going to make as big an impact in the charts as Warner are hoping. It doesn't have the energy and impact of their faster stuff, nor the sentiment of their slower songs like 21 Guns. It feels like an anthemic album closer, but it's exactly that: an album track. Whichever way I look at it, this feels like a misstep As much as I hate to admt it, this is how I feel about it. I'm fairly sure it won't matter as much to me once the album(s) is/are released and I'm still so excited about their Berlin gig. But as their first single, I was disappointed when I listened to it yesterday. It has its good parts, but I was hoping for something... different.
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Wow...go to sleep for 7 hours and come back to find some great posts to reply to..... If Green Day wrote "You Shook Me All Night Long" and that was the single, would everyone hate that? What I'd give to hear them cover that..... The LA Times "review" of Oh Love mentions that the guitar solo is reminiscent of Brian May or Chuck Berry. I don't pretend to know anything about recognizing guitar skills and solos (I hear people saying Billie Joe is a completely average under-skilled guitar player, and plenty others saying he's a veritable virtuoso, he just doesn't feel the need to show it off...I'm sure he's somewhere in the middle), but I think the whole guitar vibe they're describing is why I personally love this song so much--it DOES remind me of Queen, and it has felt that way to me from the moment I first heard the Red7 version months ago. So even if Billie Joe is no Brian May, he's sufficiently entertained me in the same way, and I do think the guitar parts have captured that glorious essence of Queen. LA Times: http://www.latimes.c...0,3760539.story Ah - finally a reasonable, fair, and well-researched review -- thanks for posting the link! I've generally thought that among the great guitarists of the last say 50 years, Billie is in the middle of the pack. His real strengths are in his songwriting and his vocals, and when you back him with a phenomenal rhythm section like Green Day has it more than makes up for the average guitar skills. It also explains why in the past, they've sounded better live -- Jason White is in the mix then carrying lead guitar, and he seems to have more tricks up his sleeve than Billie does. I'm loving the 'forbidden love' feel that a lot of these songs are having. It's a theme I'm really into and use a lot in my own writing. I can't wait to hear more of the lyrics. Pretty neat...wait 'til Fuck Time drops, that's all I have to say. A friend of mine already polluted this song JUST slightly when he brought up the intro to "Rock 'n Me" by the Steve Miller Band but otherwise we've all agreed that the song is good, but it's not a typical single. My counter argument is that this is going to be arguably the most bizarre album release in recent memory and isn't going to be a traditional marketing deal in any way, shape, or form. But back to Oh Love, the song sets out to prove several things:Green Day can write rock and rollGreen Day can effectively write a love song that isn't cheesyGreen Day doesn't give a shit about what anyone expects anymore The final point is what sticks for me. While it irks me that GD won't ever be the frantic punk powerhouse that they were when I was growing up, they're too big and frankly too important to the culture to revert to that at this point. They're one of the last remaining bands that can be promoted and survive this horrible pop scene we're enduring, so to know that Green Day is channeling these arena-rock simplistic tracks isn't because they feel obligated - it's because they want to, and they're fucking great at it. My only concerns are that there's going to be another narrative, but as long as U/D/T is jam-packed with some kickass rock and roll, I could give a shit what anyone else thinks of it. It won't ruin my enjoyment of it, anyway. LOVED your post, guy!! Regarding "frantic punk powerhouse" -- you can see the change over the past several years. Green Day is much more about Rock'nRoll (particularly classic rock styles of the 60s through the 80s) now than they are about the punk roots that birthed them. I don't think you can ever fully take the punk out of these old punks (I mean, look at how they trolled us with their teasers and trailers, if that ain't "we're gonna do it 'cause it's fun and we don't give a fuck", I don't know what is) -- but the key now is they can use it as a tool...turn it on when they need to make a point with it, and then turn it off again. It's no longer their default, it's just another tool in a very well-developed kit. And, yeah, looks like there's going to be a narrative theme running through the trilogy, but not a character-driven one like we had in the last two albums. U/D/T seems like it's going to be a lot more free-flowing and fresh, with the connections between the songs simply falling where they may (or where we find them after-the-fact!). Oh Love is currently #58 on iTunes and #10 on the alternative section in the U.S. Awesome. Was in the 80s and 90s last night. my favorite radio station needed almost 24 hours to realize that gd has a new single. shame on them. Was it part of I-Heart-Radio? Stations under that umbrella had exclusive airplay rights to it yesterday, I think everyone else in the US gets it today. If anything, I'd cut out half of the second verse. Some of the lyrics don't really make too much sense there anyway. /disagree - second verse is epic. I'm not going to rehash my earlier posts except to note that the whole song is about making time sit in a corner and rot so you can live freely, perhaps explosively, for awhile. Real mid-life-crisis kind of stuff....and I think the second verse -- especially the "dog years of the day" part -- is important for getting that message across. After listening to Oh Love more than a few times now, I really do think it's a perfect choice for an album closer, even though we haven't heard the rest of the album yet. Not fast, but not slow either. The whole "tonight, my heart's on the loose" seems like a really good way to lead into Dos, even though we don't know what the first track of Dos will be yet. This mid-life crisis at the end of iUno! is setting up the bender in iDos!. Nice choice for the cliffhanger.

The song's ending feels like a cliffhanger; it makes me wonder, "And then what?" To use Billie's party analogy, Oh Love seems like a confession expressing, "I'm wearing my heart on a noose, and I'm okay with that. Whatever happens tonight will happen." I'm sure the context of the album will make us appreciate and understand Oh Love even more.
valeriesername Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 so i listened to my local rock station all day yesterday to see if they would play oh love, and they didn't even mention green day or anything. i actually thought they would at least play it once or something, because they play green day every once in awhile.. right now i just send them oh love as a song request. hopefully they play it! edit- heheh, page own!
DannyDirnt Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Maybe that EP includes the 4 songs we have been thinking about being singles? I mean, the EP including Oh Love, Let Yourself Go, Kill The DJ and... the other one.
Firecracker Lell Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Here's my reaction after listenin' to it for 10 times
Annie, get your gun Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I like the music (?) right before the chorus starts, is like "something big's coming!" what an amazing song, I like it as first single. Although it can't be compared to SH, you know? (last part edited)
drugstore hooligan Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Soooooo....went to sleep last night with oh love in my head. And its still in there all today. Good job billie mike and tre.

Annie, get your gun Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 No, I don't know. What song is ST? Really? ...Stray Heart! EDIT: sorry I fucked up the letters I meant SH :D
Cris. Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I really liked the song. The lyrics are kind of simple, but I liked that. I was so worried this would be a cheesy love song, but I think they managed to do a love song, called Oh Love, that is not at all cheesy, and they did it with great style. The music though... I think it is brilliant! I find it has a kind of "build up" feeling to up. And what I'm about to say might sound a bit too weird, but it was the first thing I felt while listening to the song the first time: I think it sounds kind of like an anthem. Not that my country's army is that cool, but if I mustcreat a new country, I'd definitely pick up that musicand re-write the lyrics to make it be about how awesome our nation is, and we'd sing that before our football team plays a big match, and it'd sound awesome. Letting that little insight of mine aside, I completelly agree with the opinions that this song is great closing song, partly because of the build up feeling to it, partly because it does come off as a great cliffhanger. This song has certainly got me even more excited about the trilogy.
1039SweetChildren Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 It's really weird that Warner didn't buy an ad for Oh Love on iTunes... Even more strange that the single isn't even listed as a New Release on the homepage of the store.
sampy Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Maybe that EP includes the 4 songs we have been thinking about being singles? I mean, the EP including Oh Love, Let Yourself Go, Kill The DJ and... the other one. That really doesn't make any sense. All of those songs are gonna be on Uno, so there's no point release everyone of those twice, don't forget that Deluxe Version has the video for all of those songs. My guess is that there's 1-2 songs that didn't made for Trilogy, but they still wanna release them. And maybe some cover like Hybrid Moments.
Annie, get your gun Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Question. How long 'til the official video?
