Katarina. Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Right, so I just listened to Oh Love. Finally. The first song, the first new song I heard so far from their new records. And wow. No words. SO GREAT. I'm trying not to play this too many times before I can listen to the rest of the album, but to finally have an idea what one of the new songs sounds like.. ah love it. Great guitar, great bass, I LOVE the drums, and Billie sounds really great as well. (I'm trying to make this post look as if I'm not that excited while actually I'm sitting in my room like this ) I don't know how they do it, but whenever I hear new songs, and I especially got it with this one, I get this vibe/feeling or whatever that I can't really describe that makes me think "Fink yeah, this is Green Day. This is exactly why I can't get enough of this band". And yes. They did it again this time. I cannot wait for the music video, the other singles, the release of ¡Uno! and the other records, and possibly even hearing Oh Love live in a month. Let the Green Day era begin
Shoot That Fucker Down Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 A friend of mine already polluted this song JUST slightly when he brought up the intro to "Rock 'n Me" by the Steve Miller Band but otherwise we've all agreed that the song is good, but it's not a typical single. My counter argument is that this is going to be arguably the most bizarre album release in recent memory and isn't going to be a traditional marketing deal in any way, shape, or form. But back to Oh Love, the song sets out to prove several things:Green Day can write rock and rollGreen Day can effectively write a love song that isn't cheesyGreen Day doesn't give a shit about what anyone expects anymore The final point is what sticks for me. While it irks me that GD won't ever be the frantic punk powerhouse that they were when I was growing up, they're too big and frankly too important to the culture to revert to that at this point. They're one of the last remaining bands that can be promoted and survive this horrible pop scene we're enduring, so to know that Green Day is channeling these arena-rock simplistic tracks isn't because they feel obligated - it's because they want to, and they're fucking great at it. My only concerns are that there's going to be another narrative, but as long as U/D/T is jam-packed with some kickass rock and roll, I could give a shit what anyone else thinks of it. It won't ruin my enjoyment of it, anyway.

Arguably, but that was more of a series of events that culminated in them getting an amazing opportunity. I'd say the albums that Green Day was most image-centric about regarding their sound/perception were Insomniac and definitely American Idiot. Some people might argue for Warning, but I don't think so.

~ Walking Contradiction Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Don't know if someone already mentioned it, but on ebay there are 4 copies of Oh Love (single/EP) to preorder, and in the description it says: "Oh Love" is the first to single to be taken from Green Day's forthcoming '¡Uno!' album, the first of their '¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré!' album trilogy. While the album does not come out until late September, an exclusive EP to be released on August 14, 2012 will feature the single along with a number of other tracks that have yet to be announced. 18 $
