LogikaX Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Just for fun I put together a "radio edit" of the song clocking in at 3:20. I sped up the song by about 10% and made some amateur cuts. Please forgive the particularly poor cut on the first chorus.. there wasn't really anything I could do there to combine "noose" and "loose", but hopefully you'll get the idea and like it for what it represents vs what it is (stream by clicking on the link):
1039SweetChildren Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 If anything, I'd cut out half of the second verse. Some of the lyrics don't really make too much sense there anyway.

Heather. Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 The edit I heard on the radio today kept the guitar solo, so it was still completely satisfying... I'm not sure what they cut exactly, but no quality was lost in making it short.
Tensnake Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I was not impressed, too pop-ish for my tastes. We need more rock songs, not pop.
alaniluau Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 The LA Times "review" of Oh Love mentions that the guitar solo is reminiscent of Brian May or Chuck Berry. I don't pretend to know anything about recognizing guitar skills and solos (I hear people saying Billie Joe is a completely average under-skilled guitar player, and plenty others saying he's a veritable virtuoso, he just doesn't feel the need to show it off...I'm sure he's somewhere in the middle), but I think the whole guitar vibe they're describing is why I personally love this song so much--it DOES remind me of Queen, and it has felt that way to me from the moment I first heard the Red7 version months ago. So even if Billie Joe is no Brian May, he's sufficiently entertained me in the same way, and I do think the guitar parts have captured that glorious essence of Queen. LA Times: http://www.latimes.c...0,3760539.story Halfway between May and Berry is an illustrative way to describe the solo. It has that air of grandiosity, yet also that dirty rock 'n' roll tone (which I expect to hear more prominently on Dos). I also found their Oh Love - When I Come Around comparison interesting. Though the songs create different atmospheres, the new single does seem like a futuristic, wiser When I Come Around. And "...his beloved Who". That writer is clearly well versed on Green Day interviews.
Ritz Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 This song definitely hangs into you.. I woke up in the morning humming to it, its just good for me! The chorus is just wow !
Drop Dead Hideous Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I just hope they don't use too much auto tune in the record. Green day is known for their close to the recording sound when doing live shows. Just look on what happened to know your enemy
Hermione Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I was not impressed, too pop-ish for my tastes. We need more rock songs, not pop. They've said Uno is "power pop" so it might not be your favourite of the three albums . But they've also said Dos is more "garage rock" and Tre is more "epic" so they might be more to your taste, with this trilogy it seems like there's gonna be something for everyone! They're all gonna be rock though, just with some pop elements. All Green Day's albums have pop elements to them but are still rock at the core, maybe Uno will have slightly more than usual but I'm sure it's gonna rock too.
BJA TC MD Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 For some reason I love the way that Billie sings the word "noose"
Burnout98 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Awesome. I woke up this morning and went straight on the computer to buy it. The solo of this song reminds me so much of solos that were on 39/Smooth. I love the guitar sound so much! And seriously guys, so much negativity. Be grateful that you actually get to hear a new song by an amazing band.
BJA TC MD Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Is it just me or did anyone else hear something about Jesus in the line that says "oh losers and choosers"
Burnout98 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 If anyone is interested, the song is 89th on the Australian iTunes charts and is at 15th on the Alternative iTunes charts
Firecracker Lell Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Just recorded it on my iPod til I'll be able to download it! ( remember I can't buy it so don't get me wrong ) I can't stop listening ---- 27 times iPod's dying -- I'll charge it & then start listening again What do ya think guys?
JellyTime Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I can't tell that I fell in love with this song, but it's good. Already in Poland you can hear "Oh Love" in radio, it's pretty cool for me
Drop Dead Hideous Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 for those who are complaining about that they didn't expect green day to be like this. It's like you're judging American Idiot by it's last track. Before concluding guys, let's wait and listen to the full Uno album. It's too fucking early to conclude.
pisquano Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Here's my cover of Oh Love, give it a chance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb8DE4YZKbk Thank you (I'm the one on the left)
NoVaCaInE! Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 It's 45 on the Irish iTunes charts. Just looking through the songs above it makes me go BLEURGH!!!
heart on a noose Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Totally catchy!! When I listened it for the first time I felt like something is missing in the beginning.. then after listening for the second and third time I actually figured out that I like the sound. Lyrics are kinda simple, but nice and catchy sound as it is. For the first piece of new matirial that we got I think it's pretty great and if the rest of album is like this, then I'm definitely looking forward to it.
Fuzz Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Here's my cover of Oh Love, give it a chance Thank you (I'm the one on the left) I think you guys did an awesome job. And this gave me an idea. We should have a contest on GDA to best cover of this. We shall.
captain peroxide Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I think you guys did an awesome job. And this gave me an idea. We should have a contest on GDA to best cover of this. We shall. Oh god.
captain peroxide Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Are you already imagining the comments? Pretty much. The horror. The horror...
