gdpony Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Got to work early so I could listen to this. At first I was so pumped for it and kept waiting for it to build into something (as Ben said) and that never happened. So I was slightly disappointed. Until I realized that 2 hours later, after only one listen, I was still humming the song. It got me. It's catchy and I think I like it. Maybe not my favorite, maybe not their best, but I like and hope it does well. As to the hater bashers, they have the right to their opinion here just as the likers do. Don't beat them down. It's their right to voice their opinion. That's what makes GDC so great. Ok, this is what I meant to say! I feel the same way you do
WalkingContradictionPL Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Only I don't use iTunes?! To tell the truth, I ripped Oh Love from YT and it's fully legal in Poland, so I really don't need to pay 4 zlotys for one song, if I'll get it on 24th of September on CD. It's 320 kb/s and it's really ok. I listen to it 23 times in a row but today about 33 times. This my record in listening so many times one song one day
Nzap Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Finnish media facepalm incoming This is the album cover that was beside "Oh Love" in the playlist of "the Voice":
Nikkilite Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Florence not everything has to be dirty But it was dirty!!
Clayish Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 People dislike things when their expectations are too high. Hence why people disliked 21CB. Since AI was so incredible, people have HIGH standards for 21CB so when KYE wasn't mind-blowing they were upset. Warning to AI was a long break and most younger people didn't listen to GD before then so it was something totally NEW and FRESH with no expectations from the listener. Or its just because both of the lead singles have been pretty "meh" songs. Know Your Enemy was by far the worst song on 21st century breakdown and a horrible choice for a single after the success of AI. Oh Love is once again another poor choice for a lead single, and the song overall is pretty lazy.
SynthwaveTrooper Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Stop listening to it. Put it on in the car or something and try to listen to it more organically. On the other hand, maybe you don't like the track. Hey everyone, we don't have to like every track. Lata gatas. i just don't like it, just doesn't pop for me.

Todd Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Heard it on the radio, a crappy green day song while wearing my crappy home made green day shirt, while drinking a crappy drink
Jaymee!! Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Well it's been a few hours and I've really only listened to it twice, but it's definitely stuck in my head a bit. So that's very good!
Tubbie Head Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 One thing I loved, that isn't related to the actual song, is how they made a really nice video with the lyrics! They are now giving much more attention to social networking! (It's been proven already by all the studio videos posted and advertisement!) This excites me even more for this new "Green Day era" =D
WhiteTim Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Heard it on 94.5 the buzz (Houston radio) they started it riggt at the oh love no intro
InsideOut Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 When I found out Oh Love was the first single, I was a little disappointed. From the recording at Red 7 it didn't really sound like much, granted I only listened to it once and skipped it the rest of the time. I heard it this morning and my initial reaction was, "it's alright". Then, I listened to it again and something clicked and now it's on repeat as I'm typing this. My exact reaction.
cocoepops Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I really like it. It's powerful, catchy and Billie Joe's voice sounds amazing. Sure the lyrics aren't exactly poetic but remember this is trying to get people to buy their album, they just want it to get in people's heads. They'll be saving the good lyrics for the whole album.
Heather. Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Has anyone in the NYC/NJ area heard it on the radio? I've been listening all day to pop/rock stations and nothing... Also, for those who have heard it... what's the radio edit like?
Red Lights Flash Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 What I always do when I want to know how the critics will react to this song, I go to ultimate-guitar.com. Lots of Green Day haters out there, but they were generally very excited about the trailers, the Uno one especially. Sadly, the comments on this song are very mixed. "This is freakin' weird. I've followed this band for over a decade and this is the oddest thing i've heard them do. Quite catchy in places for sure but i'm almost positive he's making the lyrics up as he goes along." "This is just...wow. Lame closer, I'll say that." "As a long term Green Day fan I've liked pretty much everything they've done. But I'm really not sure about this one. I'm confident the album will win me over, but surely the whole point of a first single is to get people interested in the album but instead it does the opposite." "Well, they said it was going to be power pop. I don't really like it, but can't really complain either." "IMO good song and it sounds like a closing track, but bad choice for a single. Especially a lead single." "Haha, sue me, but I actually really like it. It's quite catchy." "Well, some people say that it's too pop and lacks energy. But you have to have in mind that this is the closing track to the album so it's supposed to be that way. It's a cool, catchy song...a bit underwhelming in my opinion. Don't get it why did GD made it a single, I'm certain they have mutch better songs...nice track though"
TheGreenDayKidd Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I have listened to it many times for now and I like it more and more! Especially the instrumental part and the solo is fantastic! If you asked me I like it more than Know Your Enemy. But we can't forget that Know Your Enemy is awesome song and kick-ass live song! That's just my opinion..
ColinOr Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 AWESOME SONG! It's like a mix of F.O.D., Homecoming and See The Light.
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 That's brilliant. Thank you, but you deserve plenty of it for seeing the "forest" that I didn't. Now that I've figured out how that stoppage-of-time theme is woven into the lyrics, this song is giving me chills every time I listen to it.
cocoepops Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I think a lot of GD fans are scared of change in their sound, myself included. But this is good.
Clayish Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 AWESOME SONG! It's like a mix of F.O.D., Homecoming and See The Light. Not even a little bit.
Amanda Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 AWESOME SONG! It's like a mix of F.O.D., Homecoming and See The Light. Are we listening to the same song?
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Saw a few negative reactions to the "simplicity" of the lyrics... People, this is the man who wrote Jesus of Suburbia. You don't just LOSE that kind of talent. Give the song what it needs, and make it good. Billie doesn't need to write War and Peace for every song (despite the fact that he probably could). See my most recent (and now highly edited) post -- he did put something huge into it (stopping time so you can actually enjoy life to the fullest). It's just very cleverly disguised as a simple, kitschy, poppy love song. There's a reason that most of us find it so catchy -- there's something much deeper going on in there than meets the eye and it's pushing all the right buttons, even if we can't put our finger on exactly WHY.
TheGreenDayKidd Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I listened to it about 40 times I listened to it 42 times (If i counted right..)! Who will be first to 100? hahah..
